Great features set it apart
Nice reservoir with great features that set it apart from other reservoirs. Fit even in my smallest day pack (16-18L), a little snug. Pros: Super easy to fill, handle is a nice touch, will work with my Sawyer system. Main cap screws on nicely. Comes with magnet attachments for pack which is great. Loved the built-in hanger and “3D” design, makes for very easy drying (usually a pain with reservoirs). Also pleasantly surprised with the very minimal plastic in the packaging! Cons: I wish it had a solid backing for easier insertion into a full backpacking pack. Bite mouthpiece was actually not open when I got it (not the valve, the actual opening wasn’t cut all the way through). Weird, but I bit it a bunch of times and it eventually opened up. Probably a manufacturing fluke? Unknowns: Long term durability and leakage resistance (I received this product as a gift from REI and I was not able to test it’s durability over time since I had to submit a review soon after receiving it. I cannot speak to this. Refer to other reviews.)
3D Hydro 3L Reservoir
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love using the hydro to go walking come in very handy. 3D quick dry, hanger, speed clip, anatomical fit, dry lock magnetic bite/valve and in line disconnect .It's 3l and weight 7oz, 17.25in height, width 7in, 3in depth and BPA and PVC FREE. I wash it with light dish soap to cleaner it and I hang it up with the hanger and it dry really quick.
Versatile reservoir - great addition to my gear!
I’ve been a 2 liter bladder user for a long time, but sometimes longer adventures call for a larger water capacity. I will definitely be reaching for this 3 liter reservoir on everything from long hikes to long trail runs in the future. The features are all as advertised: the ergonomic design is comfortable and lightweight, and the 3D design makes for quick and clean drying and storage. There was a small amount of water that pooled at the bottom of the reservoir after 1 night of air-drying, but the added space in the 3D design prevented major problems. The reservoir fits perfectly in my REI Trail 25 backpack, and I even used it in my smaller Ultimate Directions running vest. Though the reservoir is too large for the UD vest to zip (pictured), it stayed surprisingly secure and comfortable on a 10 mile trail run. The spine handle makes refilling the EasyGrip Fill Port a cinch, even for someone like me who’s used to a fold-top bladder. I have had zero problems with leakage while hiking/running, despite not always faithfully closing the valve. The magnetic bite valve is a nice bonus and stays secure even while running. Overall, I would definitely recommend this product for longer efforts in hot, dry climates!
I want to love it...
I have a Gregory 3D Hydro Reservoir - 3 Liters I have used on three backpacking trips in a Gregory Deva 70 Pack. It started leaking on day 4 of 6 of my last backpacking trip. Luckily, I was able to pick up some water bottles to replace the loss of my water storage and finish out my trip. The leak occurred at the rigid plastic area where the hose and hanger are located. It appears to be pulling away from the plastic of the bladder. I tried repairing it while out on the trail, but the leak completely compromised the system and I was unable to continue using it. The leak appears to be from a MFG or design defect. From what I have read, other people have had this problem in this same area, so design flaw? Hopefully the lifetime warranty covers it...

Gregory 3D Hydro 3L water reservoir
The Gregory 3D Hydro 3L water reservoir is a great product. It serves the purpose of having water on demand during a long hike. The drinking tube nozzle provided good flow, I liked the way the bite value worked. The easy grip fill port helped in making the reservoir easy to fill. The quick dry hanger worked well, reservoir dried almost 100% between uses, although there were a couple of water "spots" that remained after 24 hours of drying. The thing I liked least of the product was the "rubber taste" with the water. This seemed to get better with each use, and I expect water to taste clean with future uses. I plan on carrying this reservoir during a week long hike in the Wind River Range later in August.
Having trouble with mouth piece?
Having trouble getting water through the mouth piece???? That's because you need to bite on the rubber mouth piece to form the tear. I thought I was going to have to use a knife and started chewing on it and the tear formed within 10-15 bites. Surprised the heck outta me. I guess this is how it was designed? I searched the internet and watched so many videos and couldn't figure it out. This bladder is great especially on sale. For the price I paid its the best one on the market. My only gripe is that the magnet piece has a weird size and doesn't fit around any of my molle straps.
A surprise in the Hydration Category, big win.
A surprise in the hydration category.... Certainly, to say hydration is a simple category, but this product offers a bit more than that. Sure, it can hold water, and not leak. Pretty much the bare minimum requirements for a reservoir. In daily use over a couple of weeks I always found myself enjoying the full cycle of use. Cleaning this is a breeze, and it seems to dry out much faster than my other pouches, huge win here for yucky bacteria prevention. Also, the bite valve is sublime, I simply enjoy it so much, the flow is great, and it isn't hard to use, which can be frustrating when hiking and sweating. Big bonus too, the bite valve comes with a universal magnetic clip which helps with retention to not have the hose swing all over the place. Seriously in the top of its category. Just buy this over others.
Good Pack, Not the Best
I've been using a couple different Osprey hydration bladders/reservoirs for about 15 years. In comparison to those, the Gregory comes up short. While it is certainly serviceable and well made, it is also: more difficult to drink from (the nipple has to be squeezed just so to get a good stream), has the water line secured on one side making it difficult to get proper length to attach on the right side of a backpack, and the side bladder open (instead of top open) makes it more difficult to clean and air out. So, a good pack that's not as good as the competition.
Develops pin holes
This bladder is basically good except for a design flaw that results in leaks after only a short period of use. The hard plastic around the fill port creates abrasive resistance for the bladder on the side opposite the port with the development of pinhole leaks. I don't have any other serious problems with the product although the handle seems a bit unnecessary and extra weight that I don't need. However I used this for day hiking and was very disappointed in the development of a leak with only limited use. I always carry the bag in the hydration sack of my Osprey daypack so the leak is not a result of abuse or accidental damage.
Make sure the mouthpiece works properly
As other reviewers mention, for at least some of these reservoirs, the mouthpiece on the drinking tube will not work properly, even with the "pre-chewing" of the mouthpiece that is required to get it to open (though bizarrely not mentioned in the packaging/instructions that come with the product). For mine, I eventually had to cut a small slice into the end of the mouthpiece to get water to flow, but then still had problems with the flow amount. Not sure if that continuing problem related to the mouthpiece or the immediately upstream valve, but after multiple attempts by me and my friends (all experienced with other bladder packs), we couldn't get it to work well. It is being returned.
