As someone new to hiking, I found this pack to be exceptional. It has all of the key features that you are looking for (padded straps, vented back panel, hip straps, sternum strap, hydration compatible, etc). It’s very comfortable, feels very well made, and it includes the water bladder/reservoir which many other packs don’t. The bladder itself is $30. So for the price, this is absolutely the best value in its class. For light/novice use, the hose and nozzle system worked just fine and the clip wasn’t an issue for me. I feel like the material is good and water beads off of it well. Dirt wiped off easily too and in general it just feels well made. I clipped a Bluetooth speaker to one of the loops and it bounced around on my back for 4+ hours without issue. As someone new to hiking and who wants to be prepared, I have a healthy fear of buyers remorse when it comes to gear. Not knowing what features and attributes you need can be overwhelming and you can end up spending a lot of money on items that may not be right for you. As a novice hiker starting out on day trips, I am absolutely relieved with this purchase and will look to other Gregory products in the future.

Too casual for me, not performance oriented enough
Trex

This pack for me was too "casual". The pack itself has an easy to load top access main compartment with closing cinch strap which I really liked. Over that, buckles down a nice top flap with a pocket for easy access small gear and TP, I also really liked this. One small side pocket was good for putting my keys in and other small valuables you infrequently access. Also I like the proprietary water bladder system. ***My main complaint: The straps. The straps are nothing notable, they to me underperform the potential of this pack. They're minimal and thin. -The waist straps didn't have the extra surface area like pocketed waist straps provide. I knew this going into the purchase hoping I wouldn't mind, but they're thin and don't sit well on the hips. -The shoulder straps padding is thin and flimsy, when trying to remount the hydration line into the clip, the strap would buckle-in making it hard to reconnect my hydration hose. ***Overall: The straps leave something to be desired in this pack and to me makes it more casual than performance based daypack.

Well designed, thoughtful day pack

This day pack is everything I wanted. It's the perfect size for my body 5'5 160#. It's not bulky and very light. The back and straps have a good ventilation system. The main compartment is roomy, doesn't have smaller pockets inside but that wasn't a requirement of mine. It does have the usual side pockets and top pocket for extra storage. The mouth to the main compartment is drawstring but the design of it is easier to use than most drawstring bags. The top belt on the straps is adjustable up and down along the rails which is good for a woman's bust. And an additional feature which I'm not sure if all Gregory bags just automatically come with, is the sunglass holder right on the strap which is cool. Finally the water reservoir is exactly what I wanted. It holds 3L, has a quick detachment so you don't have to feed the entire mouth hose through the bag to refill. It has a handle on the body of it for easy refilling, and when you go to clean it it has a hook at the base making it easy to hang dry.

Gregory makes the best packs!

I have a 65L pack by Gregory that I use for backpacking and it's awesome. So I wanted to try out one of their smaller backpacks to use for day hikes. I've taken this backpack on a number of day hikes in Maine and New Hampshire and I love it! It has padding along the back and in the shoulder straps which I would expect to weigh the pack down more but it's remarkably light. The back panel is vented so it remains cool against my back even on warm and humid days. The weight of the pack is effectively distributed across the various straps (shoulders, sternum, and waist). There is plenty of storage and space across the bag. There's plenty of room in the main compartment and then there's a brain, a side pocket for easy access to snacks, and a tether on the front for stowing a jacket or a seat pad. There's a pocket for a bottle on the side in addition to a very nice 3L water bladder in the back. This bag can go the distance and has space and accommodations for anything you'd need for a day hike. On top of all of that though, it's exceptionally comfortable and feels nimble. I've never worn a backpack so comfortable before that also has room for everything I could need. Gregory has made the Goldilocks of backpacks!

Love it, very comfortable!!

Gregory packs speak quality, I also have a backpacking pack by Gregory and it is great and I'm enjoying this daypack just as much. I've been able to take this on a few short day hikes (3-5 miles) and it's a great pack. I'm 4'11 and it fits me well, sometimes that can be difficult, but the adjustments worked well to get a nice fit. I had the 3L bladder full each time I took it out and I honestly barely knew I was carrying a pack. It is roomy right down to the zipper pocket on the lid and the mesh pocket on the side where I carried my grandson's water bottle on one of my hikes. The chest strap is great and has a magnet to hold the water bladder hose which is really nice. Nothing rubbed or irritated my arms or back. The water bladder is great, and well made and thought out. The hose disconnects for easy cleaning, the magnet spins so you don't struggle with the hose when attaching to the chest strap magnet. There is also an opening on both sides of the pack so you can choose which side you want to thread the hose through. There is a separate zipper compartment to hold the bladder and the bladder has a substantial "handle" that serves well both when filling it and removing it from the pack. The hook to attach the bladder inside so it stays upright is also substantial. This will become my new go-to day pack, I loved everything about it, mostly that I forgot I was even carrying it! If I were to change anything I might add a pocket on the side that doesn't have one in case you want some extra things handy, but for a day hike it's not really necessary, I can't say I missed it! If you're in the market for a daypack, this is a great choice, I highly recommend it!

Great pack for day hikes or running errands

I received this product for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. Please note the product I received was not the Nano 22 but instead the Nano 18. Great pack for day hikes, running errands, or short bike trips. I have used the Gregory Nano 18 H2O on 6 occasions and have not been disappointed. It is comfortable, with a convenient and large bladder, and tons of room for such a “small” pack. Before trying it out on the trail I used the pack to for 2 trips to the dog park - loading it with toys, a water bowl, multiple tennis balls, towels, etc. I wanted to ensure the fit was good before taking it on longer day hikes - it was! - and now have used it on 4 day hikes, the longest one an 8-hour day. Pros - - Large water bladder (3 Liters) is really nice for longer hikes. Having the option to fill it up completely or only halfway for shorter treks is convenient. - The bladder is very easy to clean with a wide mouth, hook at the top to hang it for drying, and a handle. Cleaning my other bladders in the past has been a challenge and if you ever fill it with something other than water the “taste” lingers given cleaning was so difficult. This is not the case with the Nano 18 - it is easy to clean and dry / air out. - The shoulder straps are extremely comfortable. I tend to pack a lot even for short day hikes, and the straps were easily adjusted. Given I have broad shoulders these straps were perfect. I would recommend any potential buyers try the pack on before purchasing if possible, you may be better suited for the plus size even if that is not the typical size you wear or order. - I love the color (red rock I believe) - it’s nice to have the option for something other than black or navy. - The “stuff sack” functionality works well for me as you can really load it up, or for quick/shorter trips tighten the draw cord for a more compact fit. Cons - - Although the Nano does have a hip strap, I would much prefer something a bit wider with more cushioning. This is a personal preference, and given the Nano 18 is meant to be for shorter day trips or hikes, I understand why the strap is the way it is - I just prefer something a little more padded and sturdy. - There is only one side pocket, which seems like an odd design to me. I love having 2 side pockets for extra beverages or to hold my camera equipment, etc. I would recommend this pack for anyone looking for a comfortable hydration pack for short day trips, errands, bike trips, etc. The size of the bladder and ease of cleaning are a huge plus, and the cushioned shoulder straps allow you to carry a lot of weight comfortably.

Great pack for medium hikes

I took the backpack out on a 4.5 mile hike in the mountains. This is a great pack for medium-long hikes with it's ability to hold 3l plus a water bottle on the side. Big enough to stash jackets if you're wearing layers. I really liked the side pocket as I was able to reach in without having to remove the pack so getting my earbuds was super easy. I like the cinching feature to close the main part of the pack, I think it's so easy to open and close. The hook that holds the water bladder is really sturdy and I wasn't worried about the bladder falling and slouching down like I would with a Velcro holder. This pack feels sturdy and like it will last a long time! The material is thicker than some of my other packs. My only complaint is that there are no loops for trekking poles which is the only thing that might keep this from being the best bag for a longer trek if you like to carry them with you. You could probably figure a way to rig them to the drawstring cord if you really needed to.

Great bag but not durable

The bag size, comfort, style is great. However, it started to have cut after just 2-3 short trips.

Great for Long Day Hikes and Travel!

I love this backpack! I have been hiking with it for a few months now. It has served me well! I will say, I probably should have gone with the slightly smaller version for my height and that fact I was using it for day hikes, but it fits everything I need for climbing to a peak! Love the color, so pretty in person. Very comfortable straps and I always feel secure with it on my back. I do wish it had a whistle on its buckle, but that’s ok. Such a convenient pocket on the side, too! Would definitely recommend. I’ve also flown with this as my free personal item bag, and it’s been great at being compact and roomy at the same time.

So light and multi-functional! Holds shape!

I love this pack. Really light weight! The description calls it frameless, but the foam back panel gives it enough structure that all your stuff doesn’t just go into the abyss. I’ve used it hiking around (nothing too technical yet) and airplane traveling. I got the 22 L because I wanted the extra room, but if you are trying to save space, just use the drawstrings on the front to minimize the pack size. The reservoir goes in it’s own separate zippered full pocket... so if you don’t opt to use that the section creates a great space for iPad, other tablet, or even a smaller lap top. Super easy access. PS If you haven’t switched your water reservoirs to the 3D Hydro... do it! It’s easy to fill without making a complete mess AND dries really well due to the fact that the sides don’t stick to each other. There’s also a magnet to attach it to the chest buckle strap which I LOVE for mountain biking.

Day Pack Ender

I have been through several day packs with hydration built in and have finally found my winner. The Gregory pack is well laid out with various compartments that come in handy while on the trail. Not only does this help with efficiency while hiking but also keeps you from having to take the pack off each and every time you need something (e.g. sunscreen, lip balm, etc...) which is easily placed in the side pocket. Love...Love..Love..the cinch top, small feature with huge benefits in my mind. The back padding is very light and while breathable it does not provide much support for heavier loads. This is fine with me as I am typically using this pack for day hikes only. Sizing is something to be aware of as the standard size does seem to run a bit small. For guys would recommend stepping up to hte plus size as just fits better whereas the standard seems to be more catered to female sizing. Overall great pack and the color is Bomber!!!

Overall nice spacious hydration pack with storage

One of the more spacious hydration packs I have ever used. Similar to many backpacks, I love the "lid pocket" on top for quick to access to small items (car keys, phone, etc.) The main compartment was spacious for snacks, my hammock and hammock straps, first aid kit, extra clothing and room to spare. There is also a small side pocket that is built in for other quick to access items without opening the whole pack. I took the pack on a few mile moderately difficult hike when the outside air temperature was around 86°. The pack wasn't as hot as I expected and allowed for some airflow around my back which was nice. Pack was pretty comfortable and stayed secure climbing over rocks. I am a big fan of the magnetic tube holder that keeps the tube from bouncing around when bending, squatting and jumping. The bladder has a nice built in handle that makes it super easy to fill with water. This was a feature I had not seen before. Only two minor complaints about the pack, but certainly not a deal breaker. 1) I wish the water tube was about 2-3" longer. The way the tube is routed through the pack, around the shoulder strap and fastens on the magnetic clip on the chest strap caused it to lay on the base of my neck. It wasn't to tight or uncomfortable, but a bit annoying. I kept trying to readjust it but never could get 100% comfortable (I'm about 6' tall). Tightening the shoulder straps helped, but made the pack itself more uncomfortable. 2) The filling port on the bladder has about a 2" opening. I wish it was a bit bigger. Going on a hot summer day like I did, I filled my pack with ice water. The smaller lid made it tedious getting ice in the bladder. Overall, very nice hydration pack.
