3 Week European Trip
Ireland, Norway, Scotland and England…trails, hiking and walking. Extremely comfortable and waterproof. Great support and no breaking in period. I’m in my late 60’s and recommend these way beyond trail running. I wore these about 15 days of the 21 day trip.

Warranty is not good
The specific pair of Lone Peaks I bought were defective. They are excessively tight at the bottom of the laces. So tight that the arch of my foot hurt. Altra shoes normally work great for me, so I know this is not normal. Defects at the factory in Vietnam can happen. For me, what is not ok is that Altra wanted me to return defective shoes to REI instead of them removing the defective shoe from circulation. So, the two stars you see here are entirely because Altra did not remove defective shoes from the public. REI will probably resell these never worn beautiful shoes and some other person will have the same problem I had. That reflects poorly on REI and it isn't REI's fault. REI will have to return those shoes too and that costs them money. That's not fair to REI. Altra failed to step up to warranty their product.

Great for travel

I figured I’d share this, as my use case may be different than most. I’m not a runner. But I needed a comfortable shoe for a recent trip to Europe. Think all day walking. This shoe was absolutely perfect. And completely comfortable. One note about the waterproof aspect. I ended up purchasing the waterproof version, as I really did not like the color scheme of the non-waterproof versions. My concern was foot sweat while walking in summer months. Your feet will definitely sweat in these. But it was not prohibitive. And now the fall is almost here, I look forward to having a waterproof shoe for the long PNW winter.

Great shoes but terrible wear

Very comfortable, the sole wears very quickly. After six months there is very little tread remaining.

I love my Altra Lone Peaks!

I just replaced a pair of the same shoes I bought last August. I had to return a pair of La Sportivas that were too small (they run small and didn’t have the next size up) while traveling cross country and these became my replacement last summer. I wore them every day throughout the year and have to admit they are bombproof - hiking, biking, yard work… They are still in fairly good condition - no seam separations, no tears, original laces, even wear in soles. The sizing is spot on. Too often I have to choose between a size 12 or 13 but I really need a 12.5 and Altra’s Lone Peaks come in half sizes! And they are waterproof!

All Weather ?

Bought the Lone Peak ALL WTHR 2s specifically because of their "waterproof" feature. Wore the "all weather's" one time and returned them. Finished my day 1 run which had been on generally dry gravel up to this point by going 75 yards down a narrow foot path, with long damp grass overhanging on both sides. Got home and the top inside of the shoes were wet, and the toes of my socks were damp. These shoes do not meet my criteria for waterproof.

Shoes are way too narrow

I have high arches and wide feet, and that combination makes buying shoes a nightmare. When I first discovered Altra Lone Peaks for my AT thru hike, I was ecstatic! Finally I had found a pair of shoes that feel good, don’t make my toes go numb, and are comfortable out of the box. With their wide toe box and zero drop, Altra became my go-to brand. Now, a couple years later, Altra has narrowed their shoes and I can no longer wear them anymore. I was so excited to get this pair in the mail. I can’t tell you how disappointed I am now that I’ve put them on.

Disappointed

I play tons of disc golf in the early mornings. With the morning dew, I needed a waterproof shoe that could keep my feet dry. After the 3rd time wearing the shoes, the dew made its way through the shoe and left my feet soaked. The tread underneath is wearing quickly. Anytime the ground is slightly wet, my toes are wet. Comfort level is great. Save the money and buy the non waterproof version.

Bring Extra Socks!

I think “All Weather” means all weather gets in and stays there! I wore these for the first time today on a foggy and dewy trail. When I got back to the trailhead, I wrung out nearly a quarter liter of water from my socks and the insole! That insole is a sponge! The shoes do not drain or wick out any moisture, so it will take a of couple days before those shoes dry out. I was also disappointed with the lack of lug grip on wet rocks. Almost bought it on a simple stream crossing. Altra really needs to up its game, especially for the prices they are charging. For this price the shoes should have gaiter traps and hooks, as well as elastic lace keepers. Luckily, I only paid half-price on a previously used pair, otherwise I would never have bought them. On the positive side, the toe box is wide and comfortable, and the ride was good. Some may complain that you do feel the trail in these, but I found it a welcome change, since I am slowly transitioning to minimalist/barefoot footwear.

Not the same feel as the Lone Peak

I've ran in the Timps, the Lone Peaks, and, due to availability in size at the time of my most recent purchase, I went ahead and tried the Lone Peak AW2's... does not fit the same and the inner water-resistant sleeve seems to bunch up and shift between my foot and the rest of the shoe. I ended up with a nasty blister after one run with them, prevented me from doing my long run this weekend. :( Wishing I could return them for the non-all weather version, that seemed to fit me perfectly!
