Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.
Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:
Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.
Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.
Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.
IS THIS SHOE TRUE TO SIZE? The product Features above will provide a suggestion if Altra advises you to size up or down in this particular shoe. If no such note exists, please order your regular size.

I think it’s wild that people are giving these low reviews SOLELY based on the color selection. It’s still the same great shoe it’s always been. Personally, I love the tan! It’s a fun pop of color. Since they’re easy to clean, the color doesn’t bother me at all. Someone posted here that they wish the toe box was wider and they offered more support for street walking…but that’s not what a zero-drop shoe is for! Check out a pair of Hokas for a wide and supportive walking shoe, or consult a footwear specialist for what you actually need based on your foot. These are comfy, and exactly what you’d expect out of a Lone Peak. Great performance, as always.
Like so many outdoor products, the Lone Peaks seem to have plummeted in quality. This is my second pair; the first (LP5) I bought lightly used through REI yet they still lasted longer than the ones sitting abandoned on my entryway shelf. Predominant use: evening trail walks and jogs, weekend hikes, backpacking Pros: Comfortable as always even with a heavy pack, roomy toe box, dry quickly. I jumped on team Lone Peak because they're lightweight, letting me cruise while I'm backpacking, and since the uppers don't have mesh like so many other shoes, the desert sand stays out of my shoe. Those features have held through both pairs. In general I find them to be quite comfortable and have never once been sore in the feet, arches, or calves because of them, nor have I ever gotten blisters. And the color (magenta) is fun- icing on the cake. Cons: The quality of the 7s has plummeted. My 5s, which I bought USED, lasted me 2 years and probably 400 miles. I bought my 7s new a few days shy of a year ago and put fewer than 200 miles on them. The tread on the ball of my foot is completely smooth. There's a hole appearing in the upper above my big toe, and the laces are even starting to tear. For how expensive they are, this is wildly unacceptable. I'm torn- they're the most comfortable shoe I've ever hiked in yet I feel like I'm getting scammed into buying a pair a year so I don't keep sliding down hills. And of course, by the time one iteration has been out long enough for reviews about durability to come in they've already discontinued that model and moved onto the next, giving me little faith that the 8s will be any better. What gives, Altra?
These shoes are so incredibly comfortable! They have a nice wide toe box so I get absolutely no rubbing on the sides of my toes! I normally wear a size 8.5 in regular shoes and got a size 9.5 so there is a good thumb width of space at the end of my big toe, but have no issues with them feeling 'too big' or tripping over the longer shoe. My first time wearing Altra and they are now my #1 choice for shoe
This is my 4th pair of Lone Peaks. Every time I tell myself it will be my last because they only last 100 miles or so before the tread is completely worn down. I only wear on trails, never on pavement. Half way into summer season I'm sliding out on scree on every downhills. Incredibly frustrating to have to buy a new pair half way through every summer. I've reach out to Altra twice now and they say it's normal wear and tear. So this is my last pair of Altras. I wish they would just use a vibram sole. Instead they cheaped out on a terrible quality tread. Worst durability ever. We hiked the TMB and AV1 this summer and at all the mountain huts they make you hang your shoes up. We saw hundreds of soles and the shoes with vibrams had the best tread hands down.
I was excited to replace my Altra's and ordered them online, super bummed to open them up and see the soles showed obvious signs that they were worn. I run in these shoes and was a little disturbed to think that I will be running in shoes that someone else has maybe sweat in. I am not opposed to a used shoe if that was what was advertised and I ordered, but expected a new shoe and getting a used one is upsetting. There are no more in my size left to return, so we will see how the used shoe does.
Love the large toe box but wouldn't pay full price for this version. This is my first time trying Altra, on the advice of my podiatrist (I'm developing bunions on both feel and recovering from PF in my right foot). The large toe box is wonderful, but the zero drop requires a bit of an adjustment period. I'm a size 8.5 (and somewhat wide due to the developing bunions) ... what surprised me was the massive difference between the size 8.5 shoe and size 9 shoe in this style. The 8.5 felt extremely narrow and the 9 feels fabulous ... so much so that I double checked to make sure they were the same "FootShape" profile (Standard, vs Original or Slim). This particular shoe style doesn't have much cushion so I wouldn't want to stand in these for long periods of time, but I like the stability. They're comfortable right out of the box and my bunion doesn't ache in these shoes so that right there is a win. My "Superfeet Berry All-Purpose" insoles fit well, which surprised me as I was expecting they'd be too narrow in such a wide toe box, but thankfully I'm not feeling any rough edges. FWIT: I don't run, I hike & walk; previously, I wore La Sportive & Merrell Moab hiking shoes. I'll be interested to see how these hold up as previous reviewers state the shoes wear out quickly (I bought these on clearance). Other reviewers also complain about the shoe laces being short, but I like the fact that they stay tied. I have no need to tie a double bow and I like that I don't have to deal with ridiculously long laces. I also bought the newer version of this shoe (the Lone Peak 8): in a side-by-side comparison, the Lone Peak 8 size 8.5 felt more comfortable and seemed to have a larger toe box than the Lone Peak 7 size 8.5.
I don't care what color these shoes come in. I just ordered the blue pair because they were on sale. I use the beige pair every day. Since being introduced to Altra (via REI) they are the only shoes I will wear for walking. I wish they had a dress shoe version. I put a lot of miles on my shoes. As a senior, it's important that I remain stable on my feet. Zero lift is the answer! I also need support for my ankles. The wide toe box keeps my foot solidly on the ground. My body knows the difference if I'm not wearing my Altras. Keep on Movin'...
I love my Altra Lone Peak 6 trail runners. The toe box is perfect, the cushioning great, and the shoe does not feel tight or rub against my feet or ankles. I wear custom orthotic inserts. However, the new version of these shoes, the Lone Peak 7, has been radically altered. I tried both sizes six and 6 1/2, and both sizes felt clunky, and the shoes rubbed against my ankles and heels. I'm returning them. I've ordered the previous version from an outlet. I'll have to switch to a new brand after this. I rarely post online reviews, but I am so disappointed, I have to review the shoe here. I don't understand why the runners are constantly updated when the previous versions were working just fine and people love them. Why keep changing them? This is not an improvement.
Super cute and super comfy, ive been wearing them almost everyday for like a week and going on regular walks with them (some concrete some ground) and they feel super light, and i feel like they alleviated some knee pain from shoes i had been previously walking in. They also look super cute with whatever you wear :)
Wearing them right now after a 45-min walk. I'd read negative reviews about the fit of my usual Escalante's updated version, so as an alternative, tried these on at the Portland co-op. Thankfully, they felt great, and with my Correct Toes. I like the fun raspberry-n-orange color, too. Message to the design team: Would appreciate the return of the reflective stripe or other detail at the back of the shoe.
