Sizing Notes

Please note, this sizing chart is meant to serve only as a guideline.

Sizing downhill poles: Stand in your ski boots on a level floor. With your poles upside down—grips touching the floor—grab the pole beneath the basket so that the top of your thumb touches the basket. Your elbow should now be at a 90-degree angle. If the angle is less than 90 degrees, get a shorter pole. If the angle is greater, get a longer pole.

Sizing XC poles: Stand in your XC ski boots on a level floor. Place the pole tips on the floor next to your feet. The top of the grips should reach your arm pits.

Sizing skate poles: Stand in your skate boots on a level floor. Place pole tips on the ground with the pole shafts perpendicular to the floor. The poles should reach from the ground up to a point somewhere between your chin and your lips.

No baskets

These poles are supposed to come with baskets; in fact the description highlights the baskets: "the Swix Infinity Touring cross-country ski poles have large baskets for all snow conditions". However, the poles I received did not have baskets, which pretty much makes them useless. It may be that this is a shipping issue: the package also contained a packing slip for a completely different order to a completely different person. In any event I ended up buying locally and I'll be returning these, as I don't have time to see if this is a one-off occurrence. Overall, not impressed.

Snow baskets fall off

I wanted to like these poles, but the snow baskets fell off constantly. I lost them 7 or 8 times within 100 yards of the trailhead before giving up. They just stick in the snow and pop off; see photo. I spent a solid 5 minutes fiddling with them to see if there was any way to put them on tighter, but there isn't; it's just a bad design. This flaw renders the poles basically unusable, which is a shame because they are otherwise sturdy, comfortable, and lightweight for the price.

Basket Mix Up

I wanted to echo the other reviews on here. My boyfriend and I both ordered these ski poles and mine arrived with no baskets while my boyfriend's package arrived with 3 basket sets. Also, the sizing is way off. I used the sizing chart and when they arrived for both my boyfriend and I, the poles are not at our armpits but at our shoulders. I am frustrated because the local REI store does not stock ski poles and therefore have no way of checking sizes and accessories before purchasing.

Basket gone

My poles came with baskets (bought in-store) put one popped off the first time I used the poles and disappeared into the snow (where I was using the poles.) No spare baskets at REI though so I need to contact Swix. Nice lightweight poles though.

Arrived With No Baskets

Poles sent had no baskets. Not as advertised on the website. Have to hassle with a return and hope the replacements have baskets. No poles now for our trip.

Online sizing chart is wrong

I am 5'5 and according to the online sizing chart I need 135cm poles for XC skiing. However, the tag that came with the poles showed that 130cm is actually the correct size for my height and the poles ended up being too long for me. Unfortunately, I could not return them as I was leaving on a XC skiing trip right after I got them and do not live near an REI store. Now I will have to pay again to order a new pair that is the correct size. Other than that they seem like good poles.
