Worthy Contender in the 20” MTB Realm
Big bang for your buck (especially during current member sale)! Unapologetically picky, I found this model to look great and offer most of what a youngster needs at this level. THE GOOD: •Aluminum frame and fork •Frame welds and paint…impeccable. Fantastic color •Tires are super beefy, with thick sidewalls so they can be run on lower pressure •Shimano Tourney rear shifter-deralleur, cassette, short stout stem •Tektro Disc Brakes (mechanical) •Cartridge BB and 3 piece crank THE NOT SO GOOD: •Twist Shift (no bueno for little kids…go trigger shifters) •The weight: 24+ lbs All that to say, it’s still a great deal straight out of the box. Will we squeeze a 7 spd cassette with a 34T and trigger shifters? Yes. Do we need the weight of a suspension fork? No, not for this age/weight of rider. If necessary could you go crazy with lighter components to get the weight below 20lbs? Yes. Is it necessary? Nope! Turn the kid loose and watch the smiles!
Great bike
Great bike, and reasonably priced compared to its competitors. My 7 year old put 70 miles on it her first long weekend, and couldn’t get enough of the single track!
First mountain bike for a petite 6 year old
Our very athletic small fry needed a legit bike that had gears and could handle a trail. Enter this aluminum frame 6 gear badass tired bike….we’re all very happy. Suspension would have been icing on the cake but were not interested in spending $500+ right now. Our kiddo is 43 inches tall and the seat lowered enough to fit her. Mike at the CO Springs location assembled and fitted the bike for safe riding. Good purchase
Good bike with surprises
Solid bike. Kid loves it. I was honestly surprised by a few things. The website said this would arrive in 3 days, it arrived in 14. The derailleur and front brake needed adjustment out of the box. This was fine for me but some folks would have needed a bike shop for this. Both are moot points if you are buying this at the store.
this is an amazing bike for kids.
I told my son that if he could learn to ride a bike before Labor Day I would buy him a bike. Sunday afternoon I come home to him riding around the block so off to REI we go. He has not gotten off of this bike since then. He loves it!! The only complaint I have is that the paint has rubbed off where the brake cables rub.
Great bike!
Great bike for our 7 year old on the farm. Good balance of price, off road capability, sturdiness and quality.
