Wore these for the first time on a 22 mile backpacking hike though the Enchantments core that had all sorts of terrain and over 8,000 of total elevation gain and equal decent. Paired with wool socks, these were SUPER COMFY! No blisters, no jammed toes from the decent, and help up well bouldering and through small streams. Super happy with my purchase and looking forward to my next hike/backpack adventure with these on!
I was at REI and stumbled across these women's Danner 600 Leaf GORE-TEX boots and tried them on, just for fun. Oh my, they felt so good from the first moment. They only had red in store so I ordered the brown and picked them up a week or so later. That was over two months ago and I can't say enough about how much I like them. It's been below zero here (Chicago Jan '24) but my feet are so comfy and protected. (I tried to slide on the ice last night but they wouldn't. So, no slipping:)) I am a size 6 1/2 or 7 and C width. I ordered a size 7 Wide and that was perfect. At $220 they were a splurge for me but they are resole-able (that's right) - and, did I mention, so comfortable?! They'll probably last forever. No regrets;)
I have severe arthritis in big toes, so writing this review with others with "hallux rigidus" in mind (it essentially means I can't bend them, so most shoes provide too much flex in the toe area). I wore these boots on 2 4 day backpacking trips over the past 6 weeks, (about 9-12 miles per day) and love them! The sole is stiff enough that I can walk without pain, and the toe box is big enough to accommodate a significant arthritic bump I have on one toe. I do get a small blister on the top of that toe due to pressure in the toe box, but it's managable with good foot care. The only thing I don't like about these is they are not breathable, and they get waaaaay too hot. I will not be wearing these on warmer weather hikes but will use hokas instead for those. I picked these for shoulder season hikes, and while I wish they were a bit more breathable it is really nice to have an option that accommodates my toes!
These boots have surpassed my expectations! Not only did I find a boot that doesn't squeeze and irritate my pretty-significant bunions (I have on both sides of my feet), they were comfortable right out of the box with zero break-in period! My very first hike in them was five miles, and I had zero issues with rubbing, blisters, etc. To put it into perspective, I normally try on nearly every shoe/boot in a store and can't find one that works with my bunions. I also have pretty narrow heel and my instep is normal, so wides never work for me (except for the toe box). In a regular street shoe, I were an 8.5M. In a running shoe (like Saucony or New Balance, I typically wear a 9.5M. In this boot, the 10M is what worked. I haven't had to put the goretex to the test much (only shallow water so far), so that's yet to be determined. I recommend trying them on in the store if you can, and take your time. Use the little incline/decline stand so you can feel how your toes will respond in a descent.
I did that thing where a week before a planned 70-mile backpacking adventure, I decided I needed new boots. I'm a 40-year-old woman, and I'm in decent shape, but 70 miles over rocky terrain carrying a pack of almost fifty pounds - I was worried my La Sportivas Spire GTX wouldn't cut it in terms of the cushion. I went to REI, and I tried every boot in the store. I wanted to love the HOKA Kaha because I use HOKA running shoes, but they just weren't quite right. Finally, at the recommendation of the sale associate, I tried the Danner 600 Leaf, and much as I wasn't a fan of their look, I couldn't argue with how they felt. In every backpacking trip I've done, I always come out with what I call "hamburger meat" feet - nothing is wrong with them, they're just sore. I assumed this was a necessary evil of the recreational hobby. Friends, I was wrong. I took the Danners on a 7-mile warm-up hike with maybe twenty pounds to give them a test run - no blisters, no hot spots, just a buttery smooth walk with beautiful support. Then I took them on their real journey. 7 days, 70 miles with big elevation gain and loss, a fifty-pound pack, and my feet felt and looked as good as they would from a day at the spa, not even any pain in the toes or toenail area. My ankles were supported, and despite many creek crossings, my feet stayed completely dry. Ninety-degree weather and I wore my wool hiking socks, yet my feet were not uncomfortably hot or sweaty. I didn't know this kind of thing was possible. I swore that as soon as my trip was over, I would log onto REI and write a review praising the experience that is the Danner Leaf. I will never buy a different shoe.
Needed sturdy, warm boots for walking after back surgery last year. Finding comfortable footwear has always been a problem for my ever achy feet but I am totally satisfied with these. They are relatively light weight, they have nicely cushioned soles and keep my feet warm and dry. I got used to the high top of the boot by doing what was suggested and not tightening the top so much. I still have support but no rubbing and and no pain. Even with the broken, uneven roads and sidewalks in our area, my feet feel comfortable. Did I mention how nice looking they are in the Grizzly Brown? I really do love these boots.
Did curb side pick-up for these Danner Hiking Boots today. I am very pleased with the color, leather style, comfortable fit out of the box, waterproof and the 20% off sale for members. I tried the same style boot on in the store but in the lighter color. I normally wear ladies' size 9.5 regular width in tennis shoes, but I went up to a size 10. I wanted extra room in the toe box for hiking, two layers of socks and fit with my orthotics. Being able to re-sole them was a plus to making the final decision and to buy them online since the Loam Brown color was not available locally. The reviews were all great too.
These hiking boots were amazing!! Needed hiking shoes for my June trip in Alaska, hiked 8 out of 10 days and my feet were never uncomfortable. Wore them all day while driving/traveling and never felt the need to take off or my feet being too overheated. Would recommended!
Finally a boot that hikes downhill without toe discomfort. When I first put these on I thought they may be a little bit small but am so happy I didn’t change for a different size. I normally wear a 9.5 and that is what these are. I started with a thinner sock and wore them around the house. I soon realized they fit like a glove. After a few short hikes they were so perfect and I am able to use a thicker sock. The boots hug my feet in perfect comfort and do not slide forward when going downhill. I have been on several hikes with them now and could not be happier!
I'm in the 40's and have invested in hiking boots for the first time in my life and absolutely love these Danners. They require little to no breaking in and feel like walking on air. They also look mostly new after going through mud and heavy rain on the trail here in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
