Sharp, steady, good color, light, durable.

I purchased these binoculars for an upcoming birding expedition. This new model had no reviews yet but appears to be an upgrade of a highly thought of model, so I took a chance. I am quite pleased. The prevailing opinion is that 10x42 is too powerful for birding, and that it would not be possible to hold them steady. However, I found these very steady and easy to use. The Locking Diopter is easy to use and a big improvement over what I have had in the past. So far these seem to be a fabulous pair of binocs for this price range. I'll leave another review after using them in the field.

Crisp, Bright Image but Insufficient Eye Relief

The Prostaff P7 series provides some nice features: bright, crisp images; fancy prism coatings; water- and oil-resistant coatings on the exterior lenses; rubber armor and locking right eye adjustment. I chose the 8x42 over the 10x42 mainly because the eye relief is larger (5.25 mm vs. 4.2 mm), and this made it much easier to obtain a clear, stable image from the binoculars. Both of these P7 models exhibit some purple/green fringing, which is only really noticeable along very sharp, high contrast visual edges under relatively bright lighting. The case and lens covers are usable but nothing fancy. For context, I am an amateur photographer with experience using a wide variety of lenses. My main interest in these binoculars is general wildlife observation.

Brightens up the view

I love these binoculars. I have the Prostaff P7 10 x 30 for hiking that I have been using at my campsite. I found those to not be so bright at dusk/dawn to watch the wildlife. I went to REI and tried a few pairs and found these brightened up the view. They are a bit heavier, but they don't make my hands shake very much, so I still get a great picture. These binoculars can be used for wildlife viewing in any situation and perfect for car camping.

Very nice optics and construction.

I purchased these as an upgrade from another manufacturer's 10x42 that were the same price 10 years ago. I use these on morning walks and when hiking in open and wooded country. The optics are great and I seem to pick-up on moving objects more readily than with the old pair. I think that is likely due to a larger angle of view but do not have that spec for the other. These are lightweight, quite well constructed and I like the locking diopter adjustment. All the lens caps appear to designed for clipping to the strap but I would not chance that. Regarding the case, I would much prefer to have a shoulder strap than a belt loop.

Great warranty

A number of years ago our son bought us a pair of Prostaff binoculars at LL Bean. After frequent use the focus quality diminished, so we took them back to LL Bean for repair. The very helpful staff at LL Bean told us that Nikon would repair the binoculars for free, even Ty we had them for several years. We sent them in to Nikon and indeed they were promptly repaired for free. They now focus with excellent clarity!

Binoculars went on safari

These binoculars were terrific. I took them on Safari to Kenya and Tanzania, and was so glad I bought them. I highly recommend them for distance viewing. I was able to see animals very closely and clearly.
