Update, Super Happy with Shockstop stem
Big test, Rode the Paris Roubaix Challenge 170km with 29 sectuers of cobblestones. The stem preformed as wished, sure I got somewhere from 10 -15-20% less fatigue. I set mine to the 115-135 pound rider, I'm 145-150 this setting really allowed for some absorption. Also, finger wiped a thin film of triflow on the base of the elastomer wedge, where it slides inside the stem tube, this removed or reduced the chirping / creaking of the stem when absorbing vibration. Few hundred miles in now, and the product has brought lots of smiles for the miles.
Game Changer!
I developed wrist problems from banging around on my gravel bike. This stem solved the problem! It takes a bit of getting used to since it obviously has play up and down when you grab the bars and pull up to accelerate or climb, but it took me half a ride to adapt to the change. I have owned this stem two years and it's performed well and held up great. Total game changer for the wrist and hand problems I was experiencing. Well worth the investment, IMO. Happy Trails!
Don’t think about it… buy it
If you ride a lot of gravel this is a shoulder and neck saver. I’ve got this on my Ogre and CrossxCheck and it makes the ride plush
One ride in, happy with this addition
Bought the 90MM +/-6 degree added to my older Seven Mudhoney with the intent of using on gravel rides and especially for riding the Roubaix Challenge in April 2023 Quick and easy setup, I had to flip it from Plus 6 to -6 to match the stem it was replacing, and changed out the cushions to 70/50 which is for lighter rider, I'm at 150 ponds currently. Maiden ride was a 50 mile ride around the city of Portland on mixed surfaces. So far, happy with the results of the addition. Will follow up after returning from France.
Wow
I took such a beating off road on my gravel bike. I thought I needed a bike with shocks. I got this installed by the REI bike shop and I am good to go. I don’t even have to think about. This has smoothed out the ruts, roots, rocks, and ride off road. Good bang for the buck.
It's ok
I'm not sure what I'm missing with this stem but I don't understand the enthusiasm other people have for it. It doesn't seem to reduce vibration or bumps very well. I have tried four different elastomer combinations from too firm to too soft but none of them achieve the ride quality I was hoping for. It's a little smoother than the rigid stock stem. It's not quite worth the cost to me.
Must have for a gravel bike
This item really does a nice job of smoothing out the bumps when needed without sacrificing efficiency on flat surfaces. It does exactly what it needs to do for my gravel bike. Bumpy gravel and trails in the woods are now much smoother. I've paired it with the PNW Coast Suspension dropper. Now my gravel bike is the perfect mix of a road bike and mountain bike.
