Reviews on Wildsnow and Blister convinced me to get this pack. It has some good features and is decently designed EXCEPT it's completely ruined by the terrible metal ladder buckle design to adjust shoulder straps. It's like those reviewers never used the pack enough to experience and issue. The metal shoulder strap ladder buckles are entirely useless and don't hold the straps. I've readjusted the straps enough times they're practically worn out after 15 touring outings in 2025. They slip and don't enough hold the pack against my back anymore when skiing down. The pack just flails around off my back after a few turns. Total garbage. And the straps are effectively work out because I have to adjust them 100+ times for a single touring outing. It's getting returned or warrantied. Worst buckles I've ever seen in 20+ years of doing mountain sports and owning many packs.
Awesome safety features, but wish there were a few things different. The straps use metal fasteners that come loose pretty quickly so I'm constantly have to tighten the hip belt and shoulder straps. To turn the bag on and off, you have to unzip the cover on the fan, which is hard if you have a bag full of gear. The screen on the fan that shows the battery status is nearly impossible to see. Outside of these actual pretty petty complaints, I really like the bag. I like the separate section for avy gear and I really like the side stash pocket for easy access to water without taking my pack off.
I have never returned something to REI. This pack with its metal buckles are TERRIBLE. 12 mile tour and the pack was constantly looseningBoot packing only made it worse with the added weight. All of the other features are spot on. It's the dang buckles.
