Cold Fingertips!
The Hestra Fall Line Gloves are beautifully crafted...and they smell great. But, if you are looking for a warm glove for days below 35 degrees, then choose another glove. My finger tips get painfully cold & require serious attention to warm up. I did notice that the gloves sold at REI do not have a removable liner and instead the liner is stitched to the glove. Gloves on the Hestra website and all ski stores I have visited in Utah have removable liners. I am not sure if the liners are a lighter weight from REI.
Good all-around winter gloves
I XC ski and snowshoe, so these are too heavy and stiff for that. However, thanks to the leather, they work well for other winter activities, such as shoveling snow. I like the removable lining, which means I can make sure they dry thoroughly between uses. The leather is high quality, and looks like it will last for many years. The gloves even came with a tube of leather treatment lotion, which was a nice add-on. The velcro wrist cuffs means I can just cinch them up without manipulating my coat sleeves over them. Weirdly, the gloves do not have a built-in clip, but rely on an included mini carabiner to keep them together.
These are great downhill gloves
These were my first Hestra gloves and I love them. Took a bit to break in. I always treat them with the Hestra Balm, so they stay soft, protected and waterproof. Love the straps so you can take them off without fear of losing them on the chair. In fact, for my other Hestra gloves as well as the family, we got extra of the straps, so no one loses a glove or mitten. With the balm on them they develop a nice color. The worked better in the rain than my Hestra Heli Gloves. I think that was a combination of my shell being tucked into the gauntlet portion of the Heli so the rain running off of the shell went straight in the glove. Though I do love my Heli's too. I highly recommend these gloves.
Not water resistant at all
Brand new gloves, after 2 days in a row skiing in Vermont these things were completely soaked through. For the price I expected a lot more
Great glove
Excellent glove. 2 season with 45 plus days a season with these gloves. Like reviewers said, and the description of the glove says, they are not waterproof. They aren’t supposed to be, they are for snow, not slush, rain, hail, etc... You can treat them with a water replant or leather conditioner and that helps seal them and keep them supple. The liner supplied is warm, but in under 15 degrees, be prepared to wear an additional thin liner. I have had hestras before and they have always been fantastic, these are no exception. However, if you aren’t prepared to condition the gloves and take care of them once or twice a season, then you should buy something with gortex and avoid leather all together. If you’re cold sensitive, wear an additional liner or buy a mitten.
Warm but delicate
I dislike overusing REI’s generous return policy but this had to be done. These gloves are warm for sure but the inside of a finger came completely un-sewn after about 4 uses and the inside of my glove was soaked on a ski trip. I had an extremely cold and wet hand that whole trip. Torn between repairing the glove myself and returning them I decided ~$170 was far too much to be having to go through the trouble. Truth be told, I returned them for the same glove in hopes it was a fluke. I will update this review if they hold up well.
My fave ski gloves
I've been skiing for 48 years, and these are my favorite ski gloves. They are extremely tactile and require no break-in. Quality is legendary -- I've been using mine for three seasons and they look as good as new (I do condition them before each season). Normally I prefer gauntlet gloves, but I like these so much I make an exception. I find these warm down to single-digits F. Below that, I switch to Marmot Randonee.
Not as warm as hoped
Nice quality material, bur disappointed by thumb insulation. I went up a size to ensure a good fit. Recommended size seemed tight, so that is not the problem. Like them a lot at warmer temps, but looking for better for those colder days.
Perfect Ski Glove
Perfect ski glove, backcountry and resort. The one issue, in my opinion, is so obvious I’m shocked that Hestra hadn’t noticed this. Why the heck is the rivet for attachment too small for a standard Carabiner (but furiously close)? It’s completely absurd. So now I have to use the insecure joke carabiner sold with the product for the entire life of the product? Not gonna happen. What other options do I have, to tie to with rope? Great plan.
If the glove fits!
These are the most luxurious leather gloves you will ever wear.
