Features

  • ChromaPop lenses enhance contrast and natural color to make details pop by filtering 2 specific wavelengths of light that cause color confusion
  • BirdsEye Vision clarifies not just your line but the riders in your periphery; the 4D Mag has a 25% increase of overall field of view compared to the Smith I/O MAG
  • Tapered lens technology straightens out the incoming light rays by progressively tapering the lens from the optical center toward the peripheral view for improved accuracy
  • Durable hydrophobic lens coating repels moisture, grease and grime so water beads up and disperses without streaking—and smudges from fingerprints are wiped clean easily
  • 5X antifog inner lens for advanced fog-free performance
  • Quick and easy lens-change tech uses magnets to offer a solution for all-conditions riding
  • 2 locking mechanisms built into the outriggers keep the lens locked in place; a simple push on one of the levers on either side of the frame releases the lens quickly
  • 3-layer DriWix face foam wicks moisture for a fog-free fit
  • QuickFit strap adjustment system lets you find the right fit fast
  • Ultrawide, silicone-backed strap stays put
  • Includes 2 lenses with bright-light and low-light ChromaPop performance tints
  • High-value bonus ChromaPop Storm lens included at no extra cost; great for pow days or when visibility is low
  • Higher light transmission percentages are best in cloudy or low-light conditions; lower percentages are good for bright, sunny days
  • Pair with a Smith helmet (not included) to eliminate gaper gap and allow precise alignment between the helmet AirEvac and the goggles' venting system for fog-free lenses
  • Includes Smith x gogglesoc lens protector made from postconsumer recycled water bottles and a goggles hard case with microfiber bag
  • Included gogglesoc doubles as a lens protector and cleaning cloth; more convenient than the traditional goggles bag, it can be used with your goggles still on your helmet

Great with prescription insert

I like this goggle very much. I’ve been using it with a prescription lens insert from SportRx with an anti-fog coating. Before getting the goggle and insert I couldn’t find much online about using them together, so I thought I would share what I have found using them in combination. One of the best things about the 4D Mag is you get an exceptionally large field of view without the lens growing to an enormous size. And besides the much improved downward “Birds Eye” vision, it’s also worth noting this goggle also has much less visual obstruction around and over the nose. [In the Smith I/O Mag for example, one eye or the other is often blocked by the goggle frame over the nose. In the 4D mag much more of the FOV is fully visible with both eyes.] I don’t have a very strong prescription so I was able to have my insert made using the larger of the two size inserts that SportRx offers for the 4D Mag. The internal name they use for this larger insert is “Sugar Bear”. As you can see from the photo this insert corrects the vision for a remarkably wide field of view including nearly all of the hyped downward direction. And I have found it is really nice having the improved FOV -easier to check pack straps, pockets, and other gear, less tunnel vision, and better situational awareness on the slopes. The goggle has no air vents on the underside where the Birds Eye vision feature is and near the nose where exhaled breath can enter. This is a good feature in my view. And has a larger than typical area of venting along the top. That may make fog-free performance more dependent on using the goggle with a helmet with a brim (like the Smith Vantage or similar) that both shields the top vents from snow and also is designed to pull air out of the top vents. Perhaps using the goggle without such a helmet brim design accounts for a few users reporting fogging issues. Used with a Vantage helmet I haven’t encountered any fogging issues whatsoever for either goggle or insert. Even when snowing heavily while in up-in-the-clouds high humidity conditions, and running hot from exerting and being over-dressed. Pretty remarkable anti-fog performance in my opinion. Though I haven’t had the chance to test the combo yet in the most extreme high humidity, rainy conditions we often get here in Tahoe at the start of a storm. Conditions that only the no longer available TurboFan goggles have been able to keep me fog-free in the past.

Best field of view, good with glasses

I got these as they have the widest field of view, especially downward. They also had the best stereo field of view. This all gets critical in poor visibility conditions, as it's hard to tell where and how fast you are going. The double lens has been keeping my glasses from fogging up, much better than the single lens google I had before. Although these don't specifically say OTG, they fit over my glasses quite well. My temples fit close to my head, though, so check first, if you have glasses. I think these googles are worth the money anywhere, but especially stand out in poor visibility conditions

Okay

The comfort and ergonomics are nice, but I wish these came in a wider size like some of Smith's other goggles. These are a little narrow for me, however, the frame is flexible enough that it still creates a decent fit, but occasionally leads to some fogging issues. Really like the magnetic/lever swap, easy to change and remove lenses for cleaning and changing light conditions. When these do fog and get moisture on them I don't like how soft and fragile the lens becomes, I am paranoid every time I need to clean the lens. Great field of view, decent peripheral vision. Love the seamless integration with Smith helmets, including mountain bike helmets.

Awesome Goggle and lense is not durable

I really love these goggles in every way and have enjoyed every moment of skiing in it. I could argue it has the best clarity and field of view. However, since I do freeride and skiing is more to me than just looking pretty on the piste, these goggles can't keep up with me in terms of lens durability. I did baby these things from the start but each slip and mistake does scratch the goggle so disappointingly. At this price point, I would expect the lens to be more durable, or at least there should be a recycling program or a repair kit. My suspicion is that mirror coating is to blame here and lenses without mirror are more durable...

Beware of the Fit Around Your nose

If these fit your face great, the 4D Mag are amazing goggles. Ive worn standard fit goggles my whole life. The 4D Mags have this odd cut out on your nose. It leaves the smallest gap up against my nose. When skiing legit powder, I get small amounts of snow up into the goggle. Which needs to be cleared at the end of each run. These goggles ended up being a poor choice for me. When I originally tried these on, I thought they fit fine. Make sure the nose area fits very flush to your nose. Other than this, they are great. Impressive lenses. Really wide area of vision. I like that the strap has a clasp and elastic strips on the inside. Lenses swap fairly easy.

The 4D is extremely user-friendly

The 4D is extremely user-friendly with a fast lens-change system and delivers standout optics, fog prevention, and comfort. They significantly increases visibility straight down and in the corners (by a claimed 25 percent). It's hard to quantify, but in use, the difference was immediately noticeable. What previously required tilting my head back and down was now fully in view: it was noticeably easier to access my jacket’s chest pocket, adjust the sternum strap buckle on my pack, and verify all my pockets were zipped up.

These were my first lot

These were my first lot of expensive goggles and they were definitely worth the price. I work ski patrol and spent all but a few days last season in these. From bright sun to freezing fog these goggles let me see the terrain ahead of me and complete my job in every type of weather a volcanic mountain can throw at me. I especially liked the increased view afforded by these. The peripheral allowed me to see everything around me while navigating patients in a toboggan to trying to find a small piece of gear in my vest.

I purchased the rose gold

I purchased the rose gold colour and they are really nice. The lens is very clear. Great in sunny and still good on cloudy days. I’m sure the other lens that comes with it would be best on cloudy days I just didn’t have it with me. My last pair was the ISO mag 2019, the 4D mag is a bit easier to switch out the lens. I have received many compliments on these goggles, they look great on! I tend to hike most days that I ski and even while hiking, they fog up minimally. I highly recommend these goggles

The beat Google on the market

Smith has always made a great goggle and they just keep making improvements! The 4G is the pinnacle of there current efforts and is surely way ahead of all of the competition! Skiing the backcountry of the PNW or Hokkaido, where the air is moisture laden necessitates the best Google in the market....and that is clearly Smith’s 4G! Wonder what they will do next....maybe a heads-up target display on the lens allowing the wearer to lock on the guy that went out of turn down a virgin run of fresh POW:flushed: Perhaps coordination with Volkl for laser weapon development....as the German’s are good at that kind of thing!
