Better than the rest
I’ve tried multiple kinds of nnn bc boots and always found them to be extraordinarily uncomfortable. These are great so far. I’ve used them on about 5 skis already and haven’t had any problems. They have a big toe box which I find keeps my toes unconstricted and warm, but then slims down towards the mid foot and locks my heel into place well. The lacing system is also excellent. Support feels good on the downhills. I wear a size 11.5 (sometimes 12) and found the 46 to fit perfect. I love Salomon! No comment on durability but so far so good.
Love these
I have tried so many NNN BC ski boots. I have had blisters, broken zippers, annoying buckles, worn out velcro... But this pair is fantastic. Wore them straight out of the box with no issues, easy to lace and adjust to fit along my ankle, just the right stiffness, light, warm. I would say they are on the narrow side but seem to be breaking in a bit for my wide toes already.
Roomy, but secure, with no slipage
Compared these to Fischer outback boots and Alpina Alaska, in various sizes, and went with my usual size: 45. These boots offer a little more flex than the Alpina and Fischer boots, but also a more natural fit. I always have trouble with heel slippage and cramped fit in the metatarsal area with hiking and casual shoes, but have no such problems with these. The heel stays secure, with some room for my foot to spread out properly.
heel blisters
Sadly after wearing these a few times they still give me heel blisters. I'm not sure if they designed them for narrower women's heels? Otherwise they are great boots, waterproof warm and sturdy but they just give me blisters
Outback CC Ski Boots with comfort and control
I gave these boots a five star because of the comfortable fit, I wear a US size 12 and ordered a size 47 that gave me a little toe clearance just right. The boot uppers and sole flex is very nice being not to stiff and not to soft, the first ski they felt very good with no inside friction points wearing medium thick wool hiking socks. The boot construction seems to be pretty rugged and waterproof I have used them 12 times so far this winter. I am happy with the purchase and would recommend them.
Fantastic backcountry boot
Excellent support and accommodates my mildly wide feet. Fits true to size. Nice and warm. I had a small punch done on the right ankle where I needed a little more room and that dialed the boot in. Initially had the same issues with ankle blisters as reported in other reviews. Seemed to abate as the boot broke in but for longer sessions still tape my ankles, just to be safe. Have stood up really well after one season of use, look almost new. Highly recommend.
Smaller is Better!
Beautiful boot. Just the style I was looking for. Though a side zip for easy in/out could be cool. And heel / toe welts. Originally bought the size 40 and then exchanged for the 41. Normally I am a size 8/40/25.5 but these seemed to be a bit tight so I sized up. More spacious after wearing even for 1 day. True to size. Should have got a 40. Though uncomfortably tight at first they would have been perfect after a day I’m sure.
Almost there
I am normally a W7/M5 and I Initially ordered my usual size; EU37. I quickly returned for an EU38, which fit much better. These boots have good support, a comfortable footbed and overall feel, and are sturdy yet lightweight. HOWEVER, the toe box is EXTREMELY narrow and constricting, and I may return them yet for a different boot altogether due to this issue. Since the Alpinas aren’t made in small sizes, I may just have to make do. We will see if they break in/widen at all. I also agree with other reviewers that seems like the heel padding that is designed to hold the heel in place is just placed slightly too low and causes heel blisters. I feel that this padding will wear in and improve over time, but feel likes a major oversight in this boot design. Have not tried replacing with thinner insoles yet, but will if the issue continues. Should not need to do this on a $350 boot.
Just what I was missing in my BC XC setup
Pretty much perfect shoe for a BC Magnum binding. Looks great, performs much better than my previous Alpina Snowfield (which was way cheaper). It's quite lightweight as well. I was a bit skeptical reading several reviews mentioning blisters. That did not happen to me after two outings totaling over 11 mile of skiing. Again, Salomon shoes tend work on my feet well.
Fabulous, except...
I am determined to make these boots work for me. The toe box and arch support are excellent. I have wide feet with a bunion and very high arches and I am pleased with the fit and comfort in this part of the boot. I don't need to use my insoles. They are warm and sturdy. So much to like. The catch is that they give me terrible blisters on the back of my heels. I've tried two different sizes (the first one one purchased at my local ski shop was too big). I've tried breaking them in slowly. I've tried thick socks. I've tried thin socks. Nothing seems to help. Now I just tape my heels with moleskin before I head out and am only lacing the lower part of the boot up to my ankle. I've only tried this twice for shorter skis and it seems OK so far. It does not compromise the function of the boot in tame terrain. Hard to say how this will impact performance in challenging conditions. The new skin on my heels is still very thin and delicate, so I am hoping this gets better as they toughen up. Overall this is a fantastic boot and I'd give it 5 stars if not for the blister issue.
