Excellent Travel and everyday jacket
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] On a recent trip to London this was the only jacket I ended up wearing for the 9 days we were there. It was lightweight enough and packs into its own pocket that I could take it anywhere. It's a warm jacket so all I really needed was a long sleeve tee underneath and I was warm. It rained quite a bit while there and I never found myself getting wet, which surprised me. It definitely did not say in the description waterproof, but I stayed dry just fine. This jacket is true to size, I have a mens medium and am 5"10" about 165 pounds, and it fits perfect. I have quite a few Mountain Hardwear jackets and after this trip I am happy to say this by far is my favorite and most practical. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a new coat.
Ghost whisper in Alaska
6ft 265 XXL fits fine. Live in Alaska. My run around town and t-shirt jacket. In the bush on snow machine, it is part of my layering system. Packs nicely in its own storage pocket. I own 2. One for spare, one to wear...do like the hood over non hood. Does great job keeping wind off my neck. I do a lot of photography here and really appreciate top gear. This is first thing I grab to wear or pack...Highly recommend
Wish it came in longer sleeves for women
I currently have this coat in mens M and S. I buy mens coats because my arms are seriously long. Good for climbing, bad for coats. If they made this coat with a womens fit around the waist, a broader back, and longer sleeve lengths, and a breast pocket, it would be my dream coat. It's so lightweight. Warm. Durable. I've worn it climbing, walking my dog, in a snowstorm, hiking in precip, and each time I think this is it, I'm going to freeze, this thing is too light...and I don't. You need this jacket. Even if it doesn't quite fit you, it'll surpass other jackets you own in function and warmth. The fact that its eco-friendly is the cherry on top.
Does what it claims to do.
This jacket wasn't designed for mega cold temps. That's what the heavier thicker jackets are for. This jacket does exactly what it's supposed to do. Provides amazing warmth at an extremely minimal weight and is one of the best layers money can buy. Alone, I was disappointed with the wind resistance however I understand that with a fabric so minimal, you can't please everyone. Otherwise it's been amazing. No leaks, snags, or other issues. Perfect fit and the hood is wonderful even without a cinch cord. Buy it if you like layering. Go heavier if you need something for 20 degree weather or colder. (Unless you're doing a high aerobic activity.)
Armpit hassle
I own a Dynotherm Down Jacket and really enjoy it. As I decided to backpack more, I decided to "go big or go home" with the purchase of a Ghost Whisper w/ hood. I researched, read and read again before dropping money on this jacket. It arrived and is way too tight in armpits. I have no idea how anyone could layer. I am 175lbs/ 5'11 athletic build. Reviews and size charts said this size would work. Other reviews stated that anything larger is only bigger around the abdomen which looks baggy. I want a size larger, but not going to take a chance with hundreds of dollars. Should have tried it on in person. Nice quality, love the jacket, just not able to use for the intended purpose of backpacking w/ layers. Bumm........ed.
Best light weight down jacket that exists
The people complaining about ripping didn't know what they were buying and bought the wrong product for their specific needs. This is not meant to be a durable coat it's supposed to weight almost nothing. Ripping is a minimal problem that Tenacious tape fixes easily. Just don't go barreling through a bunch of branches and you're fine. This is meant for lightweight to ultralight backpacking. Ideally it's not your outermost layer. If that's not what you want then this coats not for you, but the people who didn't know what they were buying and are now complaining are wrong. This is my favorite backpacking puff jacket that I've ever owned
Great Jacket
I've had my Ghost Whisperer jacket for a couple of week and continue to be amazed at what a great jacket it is. I live in Portland, OR along with its rain, wind and cool weather, and my Ghost Whisperer handles it all. I have been wearing a down "puff jacket" throughout the winter, but have found that I can replace it with the much lighter and just as warm Ghost Whisperer. The warmth to weight ratio is incredible and the ability to stuff the jacket into its own pocket makes it wonderfully versatile. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an extremely lightweight, warm jacket. Did I mention you can layer it with even more warmth?
Warm and light as a feather
I use this jacket almost every day - everything from walking to class to alpine climbing. It's amazingly light. It doesn't feel like I'm actually wearing a coat; feels more like a surprisingly warm t-shirt. It holds off rain better than expected too. It's no rain coat, however, and I wouldn't trust it for long periods of time, but for short bursts of rain it holds up very well and dries quickly. My only concern is the durability of the outer material. It hasn't ripped yet, but it's so thin that I worry about it ripping from abrasion. Still, it hasn't failed yet. It's pricey, but if functionality is more important than price for you, it's a great buy.
A Good Jacket
I own a 2 year old Ghost Whisper that has traveled with me all over the place. Wanted to have a backup jacket just in case. This years model is even lighter than my first one. Both pack into the pocket which makes it easy to pack. Gave quality as good because I have found several loose threads all over the jacket. Function is excellent as it keeps you warm and out of the rain. Most companies I can get by with a XL jacket but this jacket runs small to me. I had to get an XXL, because the XL was so small, after putting it on, I could not touch palm to palm in front of me. My shoulders are 48" which should fit an XL in MH size chart but didnt work for me
A sonnet worthy jacket
How do I love this jacket? Let me count the ways... This is, by far, the most versatile item in my closet. It packs down to almost nothing (hence I have no excuse to leave it at home) yet provides tremendous warmth for the weight. And weight? It barely registers on a scale. I have worn the jacket for almost two years now and it is remarkably durable in spite of the super light fabric. It fits easily under a shell, blocks wind pretty well, and can shed a light rain or snow fall. I also combine it under my MHW Phantom puffy while hanging around the tent during winter ski camps. In short, this is the best jacket I have ever owned.
