Several years ago I went to a running store and got fitted for the original Cloudflyers, and they have been my absolute favorite shoes ever since! I was excited to try the redesign, and even though I like them and will still be wearing them, they are just not the same as the previous version. The heel structure is very soft and will fold down if you try and slide the shoes on without unlacing them, and the toe box is slightly more narrow than the old version. They have definitely been growing on me since I started wearing them more, but I wish they would bring back the old version.
If you have been running in On's and loved them (like me), be warned, the 4 is different from previous versions. I'd recommend trying them on before buying to make sure the fit still works. I've been running in the CloudFlyer's for years. I bought the 4's in the same size that I have worn for years. On my first run, two issues stuck out. 1. The shoe hits my ankle bone which was a major annoyance on even a short run. I compared the height to the 3s and On has added height to the 4's which is why it's hitting my ankle bone in this version but not the others. 2. The toe box feels tighter and my toes were hitting the end when I haven't experienced that with other 7 1/2s (over the last 10 years of wearing this brand). It was a warm day so maybe my feet were a little swollen. Hoping the toe box will stretch a bit. I stand by and recommend this shoe brand but will make sure to try on new versions in case the changes don't work with my foot (next time).
They are so comfy, but they are drastically smaller than the last model. Toes hit the front of the new size 11 and definitely more narrow in the toe box despite not having wide feet. Wish they wouldn’t mess with the fit from one to the next. Have to return as they make my feet burn…
I have a narrow foot and a history of plantar fasciitis and bought these shoes for walking. I was unable to get my usual 8 narow, but the 8 regular seemed to fit me just fine. Though not as cushioned as my old Brooks, they were comfortable and offered great support and stability. Unfortunately, after several walks I found that they actually hurt in several places: the bottom of my toes, just under the ankles, and my arch is still a bit sore. Changing socks didn't help so I chose to return them. It's possible that I really did need a narrow after all.
Not last long. “I’ve only worn these shoes for 6 months, but tears started to occur from the 5th month of wearing them.”
Bought a pair because they were comfortable at the store. After taking them out for a spin I discovered some things I didn’t like. The big gaps underneath caused debris to get picked up, small rocks, that I had to stop and remove. The shoe itself is heavier than other running shoes— I did like the sturdiness of the sole though. I found my heel striking more often due to the large heel and it was hard to avoid. I wouldn’t recommend for running but perhaps walking around town as a slick looking shoe. And a little pricy.
Ugh!!! So frustrating! This shoe is not the same sizing as the previous Cloudflyer. It comes up MUCH higher at the ankle, digging into my ankle bone. I examined the shoe with the previous Cloudflyer and it definetly comes up much higher at the ankle
This is a nice stability shoe. It supports as well as the New Balance 940. However, I'm bummed by how fast they are wearing. I've been using the shoe for 4.5 months walking 10-12 miles per week. There are several spots on the bottom of the shoes where the black tread has completely worn through. These are marketed as exceptional quality and design, and the price tag aligns is high. I'd expect them to last *at least* 300 miles at bare minimum. I'm just over 200 miles and they're near end of life.
Great shoes for high arches and high insteps. They do run small. I usually wear a size 7 in On, I’m glad I read the reviews and ordered a 7.5. The 7.5 is perfect.
I was just casually looking for a new road shoe comparable to my Brooks glycerin during a sale. I tried the Oncloud shoes on in two versions. The on cloud flyers were amazing oncloud surfer. They truly feel like I’m walking on a cloud and the spring in my step is amazing. They don’t rub my great toes either. I honestly like them better than Hokas or brooks now!! I’ve found that certain versions of this brand might run smaller though. The cloud flyer was true to size for me.
