Rei is going from bad to worse.
The down parka received did not have the original brand tag. It's very wrinkled
Go-To Winter Coat; Runs Large
Im 5'9, 200 lbs and a 42-43 in. chest. A Medium was perfect where normally I would go for a Large. I had a Large initially and it was too loose/boxy and even with layers underneath there was too much room in the torso. Subtle, understated style. Functional with 1 external chest pocket and 2 hand pockets and an internal zip pocket. Pockets are now actually big enough for a large smartphone. 2 way zip is appreciated and zipper seems durable enough. Arcteryx is starting to go a bit more mainstream and I can tell the quality is changing a wee bit with this coat offering less fill than the previous generation. For reference, the Therme SV is a lengthier version with more fill and is meant to replace the older, now discontinued Thorsen. I recommend this coat.
Awesome jacket but with messed up sizing
I bought this jacket in an Amsterdam store and it felt great. However, after the 1st time I wore it I realized that the sizing is a bit off. I am 188cm, athletic build and wear L all the way. Across all similar brands. However, this jacket feels so loose and sleeves so long that besides all the great materials and premium finishing, it was an annoyance after a few hours wearing it. I checked the size guidelines and realized that this not exactly L and that the gap between M and L is so huge that L is more like L-XL. I am not sure what the what the company's idea behind is but I assume it can alienate quite a lot of their loyal customer base.
Everything but the zipper
This coat is everything that I wanted with a great style and an understated logo. (The logo is stitched in a similar thread color to the coat.). The fit is roomy allowing for layering underneath. I have worn the coat in strong winds, rain, and snow and have always stayed warm and dry. The hood is adjustable and fits well. When the collar is fully zipped, the hood wraps nicely around for maximum protection from wind and rain. The pockets zip providing security for anything stored inside. Everything is perfect until we get to the zipper. The zipper is confounding. Initially, I struggled starting the zipper without looking at it. It seems like the top zipper is a size smaller than the bottom zipper keeping me from aligning them effectively. Then I developed a technique to hold the two zipper’s together with my fingers and that problem seems to be solved. Then the next zipper issue developed. The zipper threads would not seat all the way down causing the zipper not to work. This issue has been largely resolved by stretching the jacket to maximum length before trying to zip. I really like this coat. I would love it if the zipper issue was resolved. The issue may be isolated to me or the coat that I have. I would recommend that you try the coat on before purchasing.
Good warm jacket but could be better
I bought this jacket just before an extended cold spell in Calgary. The jacket is very warm, looks great, fits true to size (I’m 5’9” and 155 lbs and the medium fits me). Two features could be improved: - front slash pockets are too small. They should be bigger and deeper. - the “cuff gaskets” are ineffective. They should be longer so that you could fit them under a pair of mitts/gloves. The cuffs are neither thin enough to be able to pull large mitts up over top, nor big enough so that the mitts can go under neath. A cinching mechanism and or longer cuff gaskets would allow you to close the gap between gloves/mitts and the coat.
Revise this coat please.
This jacket needs a revision. With a closure redesign it could be great.. but its not. The good things about the coat are good, the bad is inexcusable. I want to keep it, but the zipper design oversights are just dissapointing. One needs to excuse their zipper choice, zipper placement and over look the lack of buttons on the storm flap to make peace with this otherwise decent coat. So whats the problem with the coat.?.. heres my assessment. A) Bad zippers. please.. what is everyone saying to you (across multiple products.)? Bad (undersized) zippers. This zipper might be the reason i cant keep it. .. its not a defect in manufacuring but a critical oversight in design. Full stop. This zipper itself often fails to catch and start smoothly, even when you finally mate the two parts together. This is atleast due to poor access to mate the zipper. But additionally its the size of the zipper and bad placement of the storm flap. This makes me sad. The zipper is under sized. Its the wrong choice for this application. Shame. B) Bad zipper design placement. Grasping the zipper is a chore. A dexterity challenge. This makes the small zipper even more problematic. The storm flap is fixed so close to the zipper you have to apply pressure to the seam in order to fold the flap back and grasp the male portion to mate the two parts of the zipper together. they didnt design enough space to meet the parts together. With gloves on, its not feasable. The storm flap is too close to the zipper. There is no relief to grasp it with your hands, meaning you must grasp the storm flap directly and coax the zippers together to start them. Really. Bad. C) No waist cinch to pull the coat in. D) Could use additional inner pockets. Hand warmer pockets could be a smidge higher and better insulated on the outside. D) storm flap only has buttons on the very bottom and very top... no way to button it closed.. so buttons cant save you from the bad zipper. E) im 5'10, 30' waist and 38 chest.. and extra small fits slighly large in the chest. They should drop named sizing, and use numerical sizing.

Great coat but odd sizing
I tried on the 2020 Therme in XL which seemed to fit quite well, although the sleeves seemed a tad short. The main issue was I thought it would be too warm for the UK. I purchased the 2022 Therme in XL and whilst the sleeves are better and the parka should breath better with reduced Coreloft and work well in the UK, the sizing seemed odd. I am a 197cm and 115kg and I am a XL in everything (Atom, Radsten) but this coat in XL seems huge and vastly different to the 2020 model. I am a 46 inch chest and your size guide says XL but it seems a bit big and I may need to size down to a large. It is a great coat but sizing is confusing.
Warm and comfortable with one fatal flaw
The therme parka Is the perfect fit. I am 6 foot one 190 pounds with long arms, I love that this offers a fit for an athletic person. The Warmth of the coat is great. The Style is great, The features are good. However, the zipper on this therme parka sometimes takes me 3 to 5 minutes to sort out. As you can see from other reviews this is a common issue. how Arc’teryx can charge such a premium and put out a product with a fatal flaw like this is beyond me. For this reason, I have no choice but to not recommend this parka.
Ten out of ten jacket
If I'd have known these coats were this good, I'd have saved up for one years ago. I've got a good few jackets I keep in rotation depending on whether I'm working, hiking, commuting, or just stepping outside. This thing just became my go-to. It's lightweight and the material isn't as thick as some of my other jackets, but it's warmer than anything I've got. I'm talking 45 minutes outside in -5 degrees and the only part of my body that got cold was my shins. I don't understand how a jacket that isn't very bulky can be so warm, but there it is. Patagonia, Carhartt, they're good and all, but this jacket does a better job without sacrificing mobility. My favorite thing about this is the fit. It fits perfectly. The hood is a great size with a sort of bill at the top of it that allows for visibility and protection from snow or freezing rain. It's a really comfortable jacket, and the length is a great touch both in form and function. My one drawback is that I was asked to come install some things at a friend's house and tried to load this coat up with tools and it didn't work very well. There are the two pockets on the outside, one on the inside right (which is zippered - that's nice) and one on the outside left chest. Depending on what all you carry, that's not a lot of pockets. The inside pocket and chest pocket, also, fit something the size of a wallet or pack of smokes. Probably an iPhone. But if you've got a bulkier phone, or even a bulkier phone with a case on it, that's not going to work. It's an extremely minor drawback, but the limited pocket real estate (depending on how you use the jacket) is worth noting. It's also a discreet, low-profile style coat, though, so that may be part of not having it covered in big bulky storage areas. The four pockets it has are easily enough for a good sized flashlight, dog bags, keys, and your standard run-of-the-mill EDC things. The color is on point. I'm told I wear a lot of 'earth tones' and this fits right in with everything. Really soft, relaxed brown on the outside with this cool burnt-gold sort of color on the inside. The fabric feels reliable - I trust that it's tough, but it's not excessively bulky or inflexible. I haven't used the hood adjusters because I'm kind of a "the more space, the better" person around hood size, but this hood has kept me through intense snow and freezing rain at maximum comfort, which I can't say is quite true of any of my other hooded jackets. I'd trust this for skiing in a heartbeat. Long walks with the dog, no problem. Walking downtown 'cause it's a cool looking jacket? Yeah, for sure. This thing is so nice, I'd honestly look at Arc'Teryx the next time I need any winter gear. I've lived in the mountains for so long that I thought I had the cold weather thing down, but this coat sets a new precedent. I love it.
Amazing Parka!!
I bought this Parka several weeks ago because I live in a very wet and cold. I can say that the quality of the garment's material is impressive. I love it. Very warm and waterproof in tough outdoor use. Nevertheless, I finally have returned it. Because the fit does not like me but it is a personal preference (other people can manage it, I think). My height is 1,85 and my weight is 75kg so I chose S size. I believe that it was right for me. But the parka is ample by its own characteristic features. I prefer something is tigher. For this reason, I will buy the Beta Insulated Jacket, I will try it. Thanks. Greetings.
