Great down hoody jacket! I ordered XXL, which I normally wear, but was concerned that it would be long enough as most of my 6 foot 3 inch height is in my torso (32 inch pants). I am delighted to say that it’s a perfect waist length. The 800 down feels great and the hood is toasty warm. This will be my dog walking coat in Alaska for our 20 degree average winter temperature. I won’t be treking through the brush due to concerns about snagging and tearing it. Great jacket and nice to get it on sale! Home run, REI!
I avoided this brand as I thought it was just a name. Though I wanted a new jacket and tried on many brands. As soon as I put this one on I noticed instant warmth. That’s why I now love this jacket. It does shed a little bit of down which is impossible to avoid. As I have an arcteryx jacket as well and that sheds down. I would recommend for the warmth and strong environmental aspect of this jacket. It’s made from recycled nylon. Take note that this jacket does not handle rain well at all and will need to be placed in the dryer. Good for everyday and non adventurous days. Would recommend something else for more adventurous people.
Put this piece through its paces in Michigan's Upper Peninsula this past Winter. Excellent weight-to-warmth, great fit. On a hike on the NCT during a Lake Squall event the most excellent hood kept me toasty in 50 mph gusts and heavy snow. Packs down fairly small into a pocket, making into a pack without needing much space. Highly recommended.
Nice looking, comfortable, and warm, but should only be worn inside, preferably in cushioned room and wrapped in bubble wrap. The outer nylon material is extremely fragile, to the point it shouldn't be marketed as outdoor gear. If you look at the jacket wrong, it will most likely tear. Not sure if it is Patagonia cheaping out on the materials, or if they know many will buy it for the brand and never use it as intended/only wear it 10 feet away from anything that might look pointy. I get it's supposed to be light, but there are plenty of other lightweight packable down jackets that are much more durable and have much higher quality standards.
Really love this jacket! Nice in toasty, have used w just a shirt underneath in windy mid-20s and was kept nice & warm (w other gear on for face, hands, legs and feet). I’ve also been comf when the temps were on the 50s and 60s. Although I see some reviewers had concerns about down leakage, all I can say is I’m not having any problems. Sure, an infrequent smaller down piece shows up, but that’s been VERY infrequent and similar to what I’ve seen w other down jackets, probably even less. 👍🏻👍🏻
Purchased this jacket specifically for my trip to Iceland at the end of March. The weather was cold, extremely windy and this jacket kept me very warm. The hood does a fantastic job covering your entire head and blocking out wind with volcanic dust. The quality was good and comfortable.
This medium fits smaller than my older medium version of this hoodie.
I just bought this jacket last week so I can’t speak on long term durability but so far I’m satisfied with my purchase. Are there lighter, warmer, and more compressible options out there? Yes, but I chose Patagonia because I like what they stand for as a brand and with this Down Sweater Hoody I feel like they have a solid product that meets my needs. I reached out to Patagonia as I read in a few places the amount of fill has been increased this year which they did confirm is roughly 150 grams on my size large and I have to say it’s extremely warm even with just a T-shirt underneath. I can’t compare to the previous models due to this being my first down jacket from them but I would feel comfortable taking it down to the upper teens lower twenties without needing to layer too much as long as it wasn’t too windy or wet out. The only downside I’ve come across so far wood be that the sleeves are a little too long for 5 star comfort. A minor gripe for how happy I am with the jacket so far given that they do stay in place around my wrist and don’t slide down over my hand. Time will tell to see if the jacket holds up long term but with Patagonia’s reputation in standing behind their products and lifetime warranty I’d say I’m confident in my purchase.
Very sorry to return this jacket. The stuffing kept coming out at different places. One week it was under the collar, next week on the cuff, next week on the arm. I finally got tired of chasing the stuffing migration and returned the jacket.
This jacket is warm, water repellent, and packable. I spent 10 days backpacking around the UK and the armpits got thrashed. Ruined. For this price I’d expect it would withstand a rucksack. I’m 6’1, 200 lbs, very athletic build, and this fit pretty good. Would only recommend this for city wear with zero exposure to backpack/ruck/thorns. Two thumbs down.
