Excellent support and waterproofing.
Bought these before a trip to Zermatt where conditions were going to be wet and snowy. The traction on the bottom of this shoe is as good or better than any snow purposed boot. The goretex sleeve design inside the shoe ensures no water intrusions around the tongue or laces. They are light and comfortable but can handle burly slop. Great shoe.

I really wanted to give them 5 stars...
These are the most comfortable hiking boots I've ever wore. The drawback to these boots is they are not built for long hikes. I bought my boots to hike the Inka trail... 50 miles to Machi Picchu (6 days)... After day 3, the glue used to attach the sole of the boots started coming apart. I really wanted to give these boots 5 stars because of how comfortable they felt. But I couldn't in good conscience because they did start fall apart after 3 days, not completely because I was able to complete the hike. I could have brought them back and REI would have replaced them, but I donated them to the local people of Cusco. Because of the comfort, I will continue to buy Hoka with hopes that they read this review, and design a better product in the future... Because there simply isn't a more comfortable boot than these... I am a disabled Veteran due to my bad feet. So when I say these are comfortable, they are comfortable. I only wear Nike Air shoes, and I brought a pair Nike Air shoes, for the Hike just in case these would not be comfortable effort and they were. Please Hoka find a way to make boots more rugged with the comfort of these boots.

Wears down fast, would not recommend

Really love these shoes, they are light weight and exactly what I was looking for. I've been using them as a daily wear but they are starting to fall apart after 3 months of use. The tread is wearing thin, parts of the shoe are starting to peel off, and some of the stitches are starting to fray. I tried to return them to REI and was turned away due to them being "too used". For a product that costs as much as it does, the quality is not there. This is my first pair of Hokas and probably my last. I need something more robust.

Comfy, but not for long hikes

I love Hoka, they make some of the most comfortable shoes around, so when I saw these hiking boots and tried them on I had to get them. The good news is, they're super comfortable, the bad news - I don't think they're for long hikes on technical trails, these are great for hiking on groomed trails (i.e. fire roads or semi-smooth switchbacks). I would avoid using these shoes for any technical hikes or hikes in really rocky areas as you can feel the rocks you walk over - they are essentially running shoes with good grip and ankle support. Buy these shoes if you're looking for super comfy day hiking shoes on local regional trails.

Not the best build quality...

REI replaced the first pair I bought because the side of the sole started to de-laminate after only about 1 month. The second pair held up better, but about 6 months after having the shoe, the treads started to peel off, and I had to glue them back to the bottom of the sole. Now about a year after owning the shoe, the treads have peeled off on both shoes. These were daily walking/work shoes - I never ran did trail running in them. I'd say my work load/strain on them was mild. First pair of HOKAs and maybe my last. They were comfortable, but the build quality was just okay. Also, the sizing/fit from shoe to shoe model varies considerably. The Speedgoats were the only comfortable pair I could find. I wore a size bigger shoe than I normally would.

Narrow and the goretex sock is weird.

REI did a fantastic timely job of shipping these shoes. The literally arrived to my home less than 36 hours after ordering them here in Alaska. The Fairbanks store did not have them so they must have come from the Anchorage area. Great job REI. Hoka, I had such high hopes. Generally your shoes are super comfortable and fit really well. These shoes are the exception to fit. I have never purchased wide shoes in my life, well you definitely need these in a wide. The toe box is very tight and narrow and the gortex sock makes the shoe difficult to put on. So sad but they will be going back.

They don't seem to use a good glue on their boots

They don't seem to use a good clue look for the hokas that don't have small parts that need to be glued in,

Men Only, Bad Sole, Narrow

Pros: - Nice comfy ankle cuff - Grippy base - think outer sole that provides cushion and propels you forward Cons: - only available in men sizes - the insole it comes with is horribly uncomfortable, very bad, does not make sense, especially for such an expensive shoe - narrow shoe with no wide sizes available This shoe it great if you: - Are a Man - Are prepared to put different soles in it - Have skinny skinny feet Dear Hoka, - Make this shoe available for women as well - Put better soles in it - Allow Wide sizing as an option

Excellent!

Excellent hiking boots! Hiked 50+ miles of glacier national park in these boots across 5 days and they stood up to even the most strenuous trails. Offered excellent ankle support for an ankle that tends to roll just from looking at a curb the wrong way. Felt stable and secure across all terrains of the park including very steep, rocky and wet elevation gains and losses. Was very surprised to feel like I was still walking on clouds even after putting in 10+ miles a day on very rocky terrains.

Another amazing pair of Hokas!

I've been a fan of HOKA shoes ever since I developed plantar fasciitis a few years ago. Since then, I purchased about 6 pairs and I've loved every one of them. This is my first pair of Speedgoats and I wish I got a pair of these earlier. So incredibly comfortable and the fit is perfect. They hug your feet and offer so much support. Plus, I love the look and the colors.
