Sizing Notes

Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements.

SHORT: Some pants are available in short sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 2.5 inches shorter than regular sizes.

TALL: Some pants, shirts, jackets and parkas are available in tall sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 3 inches longer and a rise that is 1 inch longer, a shirt or jacket body that is 2 inches longer, a parka body that is 2.5 inches longer and sleeves that are 2.5 inches longer than regular sizes.

Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.

Inseam is measured to the floor.

Warmth of a mid-weight fleece in a tiny lightweigh

Warmth of a mid-weight fleece in a tiny lightweight wrapper. This thing packs small, weighs nothing, fits (me) like a latex glove, and is super versatile. I'm 6'-1", 175 lbs, slim and straight... size medium is perfect. Can fit a lightweight fleece under it, and rain shell over it without too much bulk. Worn it on a few hikes, a few bike commutes, doing chores.... no complaints. If you're shopping other lightweight synthetic puffies... this is basically the same jacket as the Arctyrex Atom LT hoody. Same weight insulation, similar fit, near-identical features, recycled content, etc. The main difference is that the materials of the Atom LT feel nicer. For instance, the outer shell fabric of the REI jacket is a shinier, "swishier" material. The Atom LT outer shell fabric has a matte finish/texture, doesn't swish loudly, and just looks fancier (but also costs near double.) If you don't care about fancy materials, this jacket is what you want.

Could have been...

This hoodie could have been great, but it's ultimately let down by poor design decisions. First I want to communicate that I'm 6'1" and weigh between 180-185 lbs. To other reviewers, if you're discussing fit, your review is worthless if you don't communicate your size and the size of the garment(s) being reviewed. With that out of the way... I tried both size medium and large. The medium fit well except for the sleeves which were too short. There wasn't much room to layer aside from a fleece, but that was expected. I then tried the large, hoping the sleeves were longer. The fit was loose and boxy with more room to layer, but inexplicably the sleeves were roughly the same length as the medium. If you don't need the thumbholes, you can make it work, but they need to add an inch or two to the sleeves so that everyone can use the thumbhole as a feature. At a minimum, using a fabric that has stretch might minimize the problem, but there is zero stretch in this jacket aside from the fleece side panels which I assume will stretch to fit someone's gut if they're overweight. The length is also a bit short, and raising your arms causes the hem to rise up significantly. This is made worse by the short sleeve length. Beyond the sleeves, the scuba-like hood fit well. I also liked the colors too, but that's a matter of taste. The zipper was annoying and regularly snagged on the wind flap. Didn't test the wind blocking or water resistance, so no comment there, but the outer material seems typical of a windbreaker and the fleece side panels should allow for some breathability. Here's to hoping REI will figure out the sleeve sizing challenges with the next version. As it is now, the thumbholes only work for someone with T-Rex arms or a person who is shorter and thicker. Beyond this, adding more length to the torso and having a snagless zipper could elevate this hoodie to five stars.

Performs to Expectations

This is a light weight parka that works well in cool temperatures. It is wind resistant and breathable. I have not tested it in light rain yet but it appears that it do okay. It is packable and would be a great addition to a day pack while taking up minimal space. The jacket can be layered with a pile vest for extra warmth as needed for colder temperatures. Can be part of a very versatile layering system to insure that you stay warm

Great fall jacket

I’ve had this the past few weeks, it is a great “slope season” jacket. The vented underarms make it pretty stretchy and let the heat out for more engaged activities than you could get away with in a full puffy. The thumb holes are a nice touch and kept my forearms warm while biking my daughter to school. I wore it in a rainstorm just to see how it would fare and it did a good job of keeping me dry for 15-20 minutes of a downpour, after that it started being a bit damp inside but still warm. Looks nice but fits a little big. You might be able to get away with some light jogging if it was very cold but there are probably more breathable options

I really like this jacket.

This jacket is really comfortable and warm to pretty low temps for a lightweight jacket. I live in the mountains and have worn this driving around, hiking, rabbit hunting and even a few 'warmer' days shoveling the driveway. There were a few things that I really thought help this jacket to stick out as a winner. First would be something I wasn't expecting, the underside of the sleeves and all the way down the side is a strip of elastic type fabric. This strip of stretchy fabric makes the jacked super easy to move around in. When making big arm movements is you don't feel sleeves, sides or shoulders of the jacket binding up like you do in most jackets. Another thing is the thumb holes are done in a way so that they really lay flat when you aren't using them, they don't bunch up or bulge out like thumb slots do sometimes. The way they lie flat when not in use is in a way that air doesn't flow through and up your forearms either. Finally, although it may sound silly the shape of the hood is nice for you head (maybe not with a helmet). I really like this jacket.

Good until the zipper failed

I was really enjoying my jacket. Then the little bit of zipper piece (circled in green on a different coat) at the end of the zipper fell off. Now I can't lock the bottoms of the zipper halves together so it just kind of pulls apart from the bottom.

Would stay away from REI brand.

I actually really liked this jacket but the zipper broke after about 14 months. This jacket did not have anymore use than any other jacket I have and I’ve had many other jackets a lot longer with no problems. When I took it into the store to see if they could help in any way to fix the zipper was pretty much just told not to buy REI branded gear since there is no warranty on workmanship.

Perfect for Chilly Hikes

I've been looking for a jacket to keep me warm on 20-30 degree F hikes. I overheat easily, so have been checking out these lighter jackets. This REI jacket is really great for me. Lightweight, warm, with excellent range of movement, this one checks all the boxes. Looks like it will pack down pretty small too, but I can't see that it has a built in reversible pocket to zip into. I have long arms and it covers me, which is huge. Lots of brands have arms that are too short. NF in particular seems to have designed it's jackets for the T-Rex. Dang... This is my first REI jacket. I'll check the line out if I need outerwear in the future.

Great jacket. Adjustable hood and hem, zipped outer napoleon pocket, 2 drop pockets for skins or gloves, and the zipped handwarmer pockets. Check on all those neccesities. Sleeves are long enough for me, but not long enough to use the thumbholes really comfortably. That is OK, I've got long arms. I am a little concerned I'll find the "vent" panels a little too porous on some windy winter ridgetop, but I'll have a shell with me for that. Probably one or more of the wee zippers will fail within a few years, such tiny zips almost always do. If the main closure used a more robust zipper it would have been five stars.

Amazing Jacket - True to Size

I received this jacket right as Atlanta hit a week of 40 degree temps and it was perfect for this temperate range. As a thin 5’ 5” individual, I have found shopping for coats to be difficult as even smalls have such long arms but this jacket for just right. The sleeves have an extra inch but that’s because they have a little thumb spot which I love. There are multiple exterior (zippers) and interior (no zippers) pockets so o was never at a loss for a place to put my headphones or keys when out and about. Since receiving this item two weeks ago, I have worn it almost every day, even around the house when I was chilly. So much so that my partner asked why I was wearing it so much.

comfy fit

I've owned many puffy jackets from a variety of brands - mostly from REI (REI brand, Cotopaxi, etc.) or Costco (Gerry, Eddie Bauer, etc.). This jacket is very comfortable and fits my lanky frame well - I have long arms and a narrow chest: 6'1" and 158 lbs). The stretchy fabric under the arms is novel and very functional. The sleeve length fits me better than Cotopaxi. I like having a hood and it has blocked the fall breeze well. I will likely wear this when skiing under my shell. There is not enough water resistance for it to be a shell by itself based on some time I've spent in the fall rain. I'm not a fan of the off green color logo - but that is being picky.
