Perfect Outdoor Hydration

I use my Hydro Flask while hiking on hot Texas summer days to keep my water cold and it performed admirably. I like the size as a compliment to my water bladder to place electrolyte/hydration tablets and chug the whole bottle. I get both cold water and the full benefit of my hydration tablets as putting the tablets in my bladder will greatly dilute the tablets and benefit. However, the best part of this bottle is the drinking cap with stainless straw. When chugging cold water I don’t get that ice block or a chunk of ice surprising me while drinking. I was planning to give this to my daughter for her cheer practice but after using I’m going to have to buy her one too.

Great 20oz water bottle with straw

This water bottle is great! It keeps liquids very cold for hours (have not yet tried with hot) and the stainless steel straw is awesome. This is my first water bottle woth a straw, but the klean kanteen seems to be great so far being leakproof when closed and easy to access when needed. Taking the lid apart to clean is a little tricky (and several parts) but is ok once you figure it out. The bottle seems to be a good compromise of size and convienece.

A great insulated bottle

We have gone through a lot of water bottles over the years, but the ones that stick around are the Klean Kanteen bottles. I had not tried this one before, but the size and shape are the easy middle ground between having enough water for an outing and being able to fit the bottle into different pockets. The wide mouth allows adding ice directly from the ice dispenser on the fridge. It also enables easier cleaning. This has become my favorite water bottle, aside from my one complaint; the twist cap that came with this bottle. The mechanism of the lid will bend the upper part of the straw down so that it is protected and doesn't leak. This works great. But when I twist the lid open, the straw usually doesn't pop up! It's easy enough to grab it, but if I'm out using this water bottle, my hands are usually too dirty to be grabbing a straw. This bottle will keep cold drinks cold all day. Even leaving it in the car on a hot day, the drink stays cold. I did not test with hot drinks because the straw and I did not get the cafe cap.

Nice size and performs well.

Nice weight and feel, primarily for use on the way to a hike or for commuting. The black matte finish is nice and has a good "grip" texture to it, and it has a nice heft to it without being heavy. I don't tend to hike with insulated mugs but I definitely will be using it in the car or in the rare occasions I want to port insulated beverages with me on foot. Temp test: I ran some quick tests (at 72ºF) for cold and hot use - it kept 170ºF coffee to about 149ºF after two hours (opening the cap for measuring temp at 1 hour intervals), and cool performance only rose a few degrees (59ºF to 61ºF) in two hours - again note that I was testing it around 72ºF so ymmv.

Quality insulated mug

I received this product for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. This was my second insulated Klean Kanteen product to use. This product is very well made. It kept my ice water cold for an extended period and my coffee warm for hours. The steel straw makes drinking easy. I love that you can turn the top lid to hide the rubber straw at the top till you hear a slight snap that it is locked in place to avoid spilling. It opens with ease as you turn the lid to raise the straw. The lid removes well to refill but closes well to avoid any leaks. The mug fits well in vehicle cup holders and can be opened to drink with one hand. Overall it is functional, well-built, easy to use, and a nice upgrade from many steel insulated mugs on the market.

Really well designed and enjoyable cap

I was skeptical at first that I would have strong feelings about another insulated water bottle, but I have really enjoyed a few things about this one : 1. The twist cap and silicone straw topper - this is a great way to keep your straw clean in transit and it doesn't leak ( if straw is up, it will leak if tipped over). 2. The metal handle - I noticed that this is much easier to carry than other water bottle caps that only fit on a finger or two. 3. The whole cap comes apart easily to clean it. There is a little piece that pops out to allow you to pull the whole thing apart. The stainless steel straw is great and easy to clean in the dishwasher. I've cleaned all parts in the dishwasher without issue. Potential concerns - not sure how long the silicone straw topper will last, but imagine it's replaceable, the piece that pops out of the lid might be easy to lose, brought it to the beach and sand did manage to get into the cap - could feel it grinding in the lid when I twisted it, but again, easy to pop apart and clean. Keeps drinks nice and cold!

Great capacity and size

This is a fairly interesting design. The flexible straw works very well and the rotating top does a good job of protecting it. I like the idea that this includes recycled materials, more products should follow this direction. So far I've used this as my water bottle consistantly for a week. Outside on 80+ degree days it worked rather well to keep my water cold, so it was easy for it to keep water cold the rest of the time that I was indoors. This fit very well in the bottle pockets of my backpack and cupholders in my vehicle. It has a similar dimention to 16 oz water bottles, but is taller allowing for more capacity, which is awesome. I may have recieved the wrong mug however as mine has a straw rather than a spout. The straw is only a slight drawback.. It is pretty awkward when taking the lid off because it is also metal and very long. Also, I like the idea that they used metal rather than plastic, then the end is made from some kind of rubbery plastic. I would prefer to stay away from soft plastic that can easily deteriorate as much as possibls.

Great for coffee

I bought this in search of a travel container for coffee. It holds the temperature of the coffee very well on my long commutes. The three best features it has over others I have since bequeathed to others are (1) it doesn't leak, (2) it's easier to open and close the lid, and (3) it is easier to clean. Some of my older cars either have poorly placed cup holders or no cup holders at all. I can lay this on my passenger seat with full confidence of no spillage. Most of my cars have a manual transmission. Being able drive, open, sip, close, and keep driving is a strong feature for me. It being easier to clean is self explanatory. The big advantage is I can use this daily -- and multiple times even -- and it takes little effort to clean. This is huge for me because I'm a bit of a coffee snob and I don't want to put in the effort for great coffee only to have it offset by strenuous effort to clean it or have to use the dishwasher daily. In fact, it has not seen my dishwasher, and probably it won't. (The wide mouth helps with the cleaning.)

Not my favorite design

Overall, I’m a fan of Klean Kanteen products. This bottle is great at keeping things cold which is what I used it for primarily. I often used it during my commute and at work. The only downside is that the twist cap would not stay closed. I typically placed it in the bottle holder on the side of my backpack, and the cap would twist partially open, exposing the straw.

Fine, but could be better

The bottle itself is fine and pretty standard for an insulated metal bottle. That said, the lid/straw leave something to be desired. The straw doesn't reach far enough to the bottom, meaning you have to unscrew the whole cap to finish your drink. It is also a little taller than other bottles of the same size capacity.
