Comfortable but not water proof
Purchased these shoes to climb one of the seven summits. They seem very comfortable from the get-go, no break-in required. Ample support and adequate sole stiffness. Almost perfect approach shoe. The trouble started after the first drizzle hit the trail. After only 5 minutes of walking, I have noticed dark spots around the connection between the upper and lower part of the shoe and after 10 minutes the entire GORE-TEX portion of the shoe was soaking wet with a noticeable decrease of the insulation properties as my feet started to get colder. These shoes are not waterproof they are not even water-resistant in my opinion. I would not recommend Salomon Cross Hike GTX Low Hiking shoes if there is any chance of rain in your hiking forecast.
My hopes were high.
I bought these for backpacking. On day two out on my first trip, my foot punched a hole through the Gortex upper of the toe box. I do have wide feet; but it seems like a pair of shoes should last more than 48 hours. I also found these shoes to be very heavy and not at all breathable. My feet were sweaty the whole trip, and I ended up with blisters. The tread on the bottoms is very good.
Winter walking shoe
My other Salomon shoe is a size 9. With this model, size 9 felt a little bit crowded in the toe box so I went to a size 9.5 and that felt better. Love the aggressive treads for walking in winter. With the gore Tex the shoe can get hot while wearing indoors.
Great Hiking Shoe! I love my Salomons
Great shoe, good traction, and secure footing. Light and very comfortable. Looks good, feels good.
Shoe was comfortable and great to wear at the start. After almost 8 months of usage, the inner sole now keeps slipping out. After a couple of months the shoe laces wore thin
Not standard size
Expensive and crap. Not to the standard Salomon sizing, uncomfortable. Worst Salomon shoe I've ever purchased (and I have had 10-15 pairs of Salomon shoes over many years)
Eric
