Not functional
I use the Ortleib rear bike panniers daily for my commute. I bought this because it’s awkward to carry the bag and uncomfortable over longer periods of time (or while shopping in a store). You CANNOT keep this item on your bag while it is clipped to your bike rack. You have to take it off and put it INSIDE the bag. It’s tedious to take off and on. It folds in half (hot dog style) but you might still be space challenged. I could see this being useful if you are on a longer ride, have space in your bag, and want to convert to a backpack at the end of the day. In that case it is comfortable and convenient. But I will likely be returning and waiting for the Ortleib Vario to come in stock, because this does not suit my needs.
Gets job done, not super smoothly
Just got these yesterday, so haven't tried them out in the real world yet, but I put them on my bike packer plus and tried them out. This is a bit clunky to get on and off and take up space, but they are reasonably comfortable and get the job done. If you are investing in a new pannier, will be using the backpack mode frequently, and are good with roll top closure I would look at the Ortlieb Vario PS instead- the conversation is way smoother. The only thing was at the moment I couldn’t find one for a 2.1 mounting system anywhere, which is what I need.
great accessory for panniers
I love this carrying system! I am a bike commuter and often have to pack a lot of gear for the day’s activities. I used to leave necessary things at home so i didn’t have to lug them around by hand all day, but not with this! I was concerned that it would be uncomfortable to wear, but it is great. I can’t believe i went so long carrying my panniers in my hands when i could have been wearing one of them. I now use this everywhere and am no longer concerned about the weight (within reason, no dumbells in my bags) of what i bring with me.
