An excellent multi-purpose bag!
I love this bag! First, it just looks classy and sophisticated with clean lines and tastefully selected materials. I can take it to a business meeting or out and about with the family. There are tons of functional compartments and thoughtful details with a perfect spot for my laptop and accessories. It's multi-purpose, working as a messenger bag, a backpack, or a pannier. It looks and feels sleek and compact, but it can hold a tonne when it needs to. I took it with me to Whistler recently and fit extra clothes, toiletries, my laptop, sketchbooks and more, no problem. The mounting system works great, and it is weatherproof too. I love it. Highly recommended!!!
Great convertible bike bag, needs a few tweaks
I agree with the other review that this is a bulky bag for a small framed person (fine as a backpack, huge as a shoulder bag/panier). There are 3 pockets under the flap (one front thin one, 2 medium ones) plus the laptop pocket outside of the flap. It would be much nicer with fewer pockets and it would be easier to use: - the flap clip isn't adjustable so if you fill the bag, it doesn't clip - the laptop pocket outside the flap makes no sense (there's a small flap over the zipper, I haven't tested in the rain how waterproof it is but I don't want to risk it) - the backpack straps stuff into that laptop pocket so if you use it as a backpack, that pocket has a big hole in the top that can't zip closed (a laptop would fit in the large pocket under the flap too, to be fair. Just case in point that 4 pockets is at least one too many). The mechanism to clip on a bike rack is easy and I haven't had any problems with it. The convertibility is pretty easy (the flap that covers the panier piece is bulky to stuff in its pocket but the padding does make using as a backpack more comfortable. I appreciated the large capacity in the specs but in retrospect, it adds bulk and it is really easy to overload the bag until it's incredibly heavy. Will see how it holds up with daily use but it seems to be very well made and I'm happy to have a panier to backpack option.
Fantastic with One Major Flaw
I love nearly everything about this bag, but it has a design flaw that is too significant to be overlooked. The good: This is a fantastic bag for commuting. It is the perfect size for a change of work clothes and good-sized laptop and papers. The mechanism to attach to a bike rack is the best I've seen. The pockets and organization is near-perfect. The conversion to a pannier or backpack is fantastic. The bad: The magnet latches to keep the top flap closed are worthless. They hold fine when the bag is empty on a flat surface, but does not hold when the bag has contents or in any sort of wind. Basically the top flaps around anytime it is in use. It would have been much better to secure the top flap with buckles, snaps or anything that holds better. One other minor gripe is that the key clip could be longer so you do not have to take the key off to unlock a bike lock or door.
Love it!
I picked one of these up and boy can I say it’s versatile! From the board room to the coffee shop, I take this thing everywhere. Other than when I choose the TWG Commute Backpack which I also have and love. The Magnate looks great, organizes everything I need and the build quality is top notch. You never know what the day will bring so having the option of a shoulder bag, back pack, or throwing it on a bike rack is great! I expect to have this bag for a long time.
Great for around town
I love this bag, it has tons of room for a full day of work gear plus a jacket and lunch. It's super easy to convert from pannier to backpack, which is great for when I'm not on my bike. Bonus that it's waterproof too!
Solid choice--maybe not for petite professionals
Very solid looking product, but I had too return, it just looks too huge for an average size woman to look "professional" carrying into a meeting. Not subtle at all (even though black and pretty sleek), If you are a big guy, you could look fine with it. The size would have been fine for a backpack, but as an office bag it looks oversized somehow. I think I'll look for a large pannier or pannier basket where I can carry a smaller nicer office bag instead.
