Bought August 15. Upper is separating from sole along seam edge within 2 months of use. Used a total of 4 times, in part for serious mountaineering but other times just to scramble. Not up to the quality I expect of la sportiva compared to the other approach shoes I have owned of theirs.
I bought these on a trip to Japan and it was the first time I have seen them. They struck my fancy and bought them. I have used them to climb on the roof, cruise around town, These things rock. They are a bit small but that should be expected as these are an approach shoe and can be used to do some light climbing. They don't look to be sized as a shoe to wear with socks hence the sock like cuff and liner, if you size these up they would be good with thin socks. Overall these are some of the best shoes I have for what they are intended for.
I bought these in the exact size as my TX3s which I’ve owned for over 3 years with amazing results. But these shoes.. everything is wrong. They are literally more uncomfortable to walk in than my skwamas. Extremely narrow with a tiny toe box. They are also shockingly low volume and it feels like your foot is being smashed in a panini press. I even had a friend try them on who is a size and a half smaller foot and he couldn’t tolerate the fit and still had an extra inch of length at the ends. Don’t know what to say other than bring the old tx2, did anyone even try these in before releasing them to the public?
I have had these shoes for the last four years having bought only two pair - and I hike almost every weekend - hiked across Alaska - Arctic National Park and Nepal - the shoe dried fast - thank goodness - because in Alaska I was wet the entire time! This sole strips up to the rocks in Nepal and I use this shoe to hike to crampon points/boot switch when climbing big mountains - super light and the pack attachment makes them easy to carry - Highly highly recommend these shoes - they do run small so get a size bigger than you normally wear and I suggest wide fit if you have a bit wider toe box- great shoe!
Climber for 25 years and have used most approach shoes on the market over that time. Have used these for everything from long alpine approaches in the Sierra and North Cascades to a ton of Red Rock approaches and climbs. They're absolutely as durable as one could expect from that level of usage. After a couple years of hand cracks and rough scrambles they're finally wearing out on the pinkie-toe side - but what would you expect after hundreds of feet of hand cracks, thousands of feet of face climbing, and millions of kicked rocks on dry Nevada stream-beds. I hope LS keeps making these. They're soft so some will want more support but they edge well up to most RR 5.8 or 5.9 - meaning they climb like a sloppy rock shoe - so about what you'd reasonably expect. They're the closest shoe to the **original** 5Ten Guide Tennie - iykyk... More narrow for sure, but I have wide-ish feet and find these fit great thanks to the stretchy upper. They do NOT work well for real alpine approaches. Any remotely "technical" snow travel turns epic quickly. But they're good enough on granite that it's still often worth it.
I have been wearing TX4’s for a very long time it was very excited to get these. I have a very narrow foot and these were off the chain to narrow. Also the side support on the shoes aren’t very substantial, so if you’re standing on a slope in your foot is horizontal to the slope. It just kind of rolls out of it like it would a bedroom shoe. The biggest thing is you need a very, very narrow foot for this shoe to be comfortable. Hope this helps in your purchase of the shoe and hopefully you’ll have better luck than I did. I am a loyal La Sportiva customer and have been for years.
Disappointed- the tx2’s were my holy grail approach shoe and I was very excited for this version and the ability to resole. However, the tx2 evo’s started falling apart the moment I got them (sole coming off at the front) and the fit is poor - sock slides off when walking up hill no matter how tight the laces are. It’s only gotten worse with a few months of wear. Also the sizing was completely different (by 2 sizes!?) from the old tx2, and had to return to get proper fit. Would have returned these also but by the time they arrived the season was starting and some approach shoe is better than none - but barely since these slip off all the time and do not age well! Please bring back the old mesh tx2!
I love these. They are so comfortable and although the toe box is not as wide as the TX3, the stretch in the mesh makes up for it. I mainly wear them on Via Ferratas, but I have also hiked and scrambled in them. I recommended them to friends and they all love them too. You do have to pull the tongue after you slide your foot in otherwise you will feel a lump. So far they are holding up fine and I have done at least 40 Via Ferrata routes and hiked to and from the start in them. They do run a bit small and I had to go up a size from my TX3 shoe.
These shoes are insanely tight around your foot. I have narrow feet so La Sportiva shoes typically fit me very well but not these. I even sized up a half size and still returning them. Feels like my feet are being squeezed like I wrapped duct tape around my foot as tight as I could. Horrible. I can’t even imagine a person with an average to wide foot trying to fit into a pair of these.
I agree with the other reviewer in that these felt very tight around my foot even tho the toe area felt ok. There is a thick padding along the tongue that results in a very secure and tight fit. It’s almost like wearing a very comfortable climbing shoe, which made scrambling feel very secure. I didn’t tie the laces half the time because the shoe is like a tight, rigid sock. If you have narrowish feet apparently like I do, you will really love these, although I did think they felt a bit uncomfortable when I first tried them on. They definitely loosened up after a long day and I really like them now. Durable, light, incredible grip on the rock, and really like the look of them. You will not like if you have wide or higher volume (is that a thing?) feet.
