Leaky
Great idea! I would love this product if they didn't leak. I bought several of them and they all eventually failed.
GREAT for Travel. Negative Reviews are User Error.
I've been using these for 3+ years. Never once leaked or punctured on me. Based on various user-submitted pictures, it seems they have been way too rough on the toiletry bottles. These things are sweet! Yes the liquids/soaps will dry up and harden but that's why you don't leave the liquids in the containers for months after you use them. IF that happens, it's your fault and easy to fix. Submerge them in a big bowl of water for a few hours then take a shower with them and rinse them out til all the hardened soap is gone. I own well over half the products that Matador makes and they are all incredible. Surprised by all the hate on this one.
Thick fluids only
I have traveled with ye olde flip top squirt bottles, gotoobs (models 1 & 2) and these. I keep going back to the old squirt bottles. These Matador soft bottles have a label, a snap hanging loop, and a secure closure. I carry them in a ziplock anyway. The lid spins off for easy filling and the dispenser works well for thick fluids like, say, shampoo or sunscreen, but the exit pupil is quite large and the floppiness allows any watery fluid, like alcohol or mouthwash, to simply flow freely. These are very expensive compared to the old cheap and simple squirt bottles the REI no longer stocks.
Good concept bad implementation adding to landfill
Used for approximately 9 months. Container seal around the hard plastic failed on one of the three. Another one of the three developed a pin hole sized leak. Luckily i had all three inside a leak proof bad or all my toiletries would have been affected.
Leakers And Not 3 Ounces
Bought these for a backpacking trip in the Caribbean. 2 out of the 3 leaked before departing. Reloaded and the same two leaked again. Same on third attempt. This is NOT user error. Also, these are described as having a 3 ounce capacity. As photo shows, they hold 2.1 ounces which is 30% below spec. As a note, TSA allows 3.4 ounces as carry on. Making them 3.4 oz would have added almost zero weight. They seriously missed the mark on this all around.
Leaks!
I really liked these at first, but after only a couple of months, they developed leaks where the cap piece attaches to the rest of the pouch. This was most annoying, to have lotion start leaking all over my other toiletries at the start of a two month trip. Not recommended. These were the all black ones purchased Feb 2022.
Great Idea- Bad Implementation
These bottles are very light and hold a decent amount of liquid, but as stated multiple times in other reviews, it is difficult to tell if the lid is truly closed. Every time you use them the bottles get shampoo/ conditioner on the lid, which makes closing them difficult. If you wash it off, water gets in the bottle. You can't count on the snap of the lid every time. Also, mine just sprung a leak in my toiletry bag (this was NOT from the lid not closing, the bag actually split for some unknown reason) and shampoo got all over everything. It took forever (on a trip where I could be doing something else much more fun) to get everything cleaned up. I'm throwing these away- not worth the risk.
Will leak; very delicate; very limited
What does "anything from soap to toothpaste" mean? It means most soaps and toothpastes, and that's about it. The FlatPak loses its seals/welds with even trace amounts of nearly any kind of alcohol, so it will certainly fail with hand sanitizer, but will also fail after longer periods with more mundane items like sunscreen or ointments. Honestly, I regret ever purchasing these. I've had several leak on me that contained sunscreen and shampoo. This made a huge mess and ruined several nearby items in my pack. Just using a product's original packaging seems like the best bet.
awesome little travel product
I love these bottles. They're super flexible and they only take up as much space as whatever shampoo/soap/toothpaste you have inside - which means you can squeeze them into the tiniest corners of your backpack when you're tight on space. Also, they hold a shocking amount of product, I swear it's more than 3 oz. Fair warning - I used one of these for mouthwash and it did not go well. Called Matador who told me you can't use these for products with alcohol in them. They were great and replaced my bottle for me and I haven't had any issues since.
Leaky and dried out my soap
I really loved these at first. I took them on three trips with no issues, but then before my 4th trip, I noticed my face soap had dried out. The soap in the original packaging was fine, as well as the same face soap in my old travel bottle. I poured some water in and kneaded the bottle to rehydrate the soap and figured that would be okay. Then on my most recent trip, another one of the bottles leaked into my 3-1-1 pouch. I couldn’t tell where the leak was coming from, because the lid was on tight. I examined the bottle closely and still couldn’t see where it could be leaking from. Then I squeezed it and realized there was a tiny leak in the corner where the fabric meets the plastic. I returned them, which is very unfortunate. I loved how flat these bottles were and how they would become even smaller as the contents were used. I truly hope they refine the product, because I really love the concept.
