Like a more legit Birkenstock ready to get wet
Got these as my summer sandal and have loved their versatility. They fit my feet very well. Love the zero drop footbed. The look is like if Gucci and Birkenstock had a sandal baby, made for legit adventures in the outdoors! I've also been rocking them in slide mode by just stepping down on the heel strap.
So Much Potential
I have over 3,500 river miles and recently took the Webber M's on A 7 day Main Salmon. I was really hoping these would be my go to river shoes but after 2 days I switched back to my Chacos. The GOOD-super comfortable from the moment I put them on. Astral hit a hole run with the foot bed. The BAD-the straps and buckles are just too wide and the build up of material around the edges prevents rocks from being able to flush out of the shoe. Also the large straps and chunky material never dried out. I really hope Astral continues to improve these sandals. With a few minor tweaks they would be amazing!
Like Trail-worthy Birks
I really like the wide, soft straps. I wear back strap Birkenstocks every day, so these feel very familiar. They are great on uneven terrain. The soles handle rocks and steep inclines amazingly well. They are my new goto for hiking on dry trails or sloshing through watery places of boating. My only complaint is that the buckles are bulky and occasionally get caught on things, or get pushed into the tops of my toes. On the positive side, I like to wear the straps loose, whichi works fine with these. The way you have sewn the ends of thes straps so they don't pull out and come undone is very smart.
Threads My Unusual Needle
Recovering from ankle surgery and heading out on vacation next week, I went into my REI hoping against hope that I could find something that would work on my bandaged foot without being too big for my other foot. I wear an 11 in Tevas but tried these in 12 and Voila! Due to the adjustable straps, they work like a charm. Underfoot, they are way-comfortable, and above foot, they are quite attractive compared to other sandals. So I can look forward to wearing these a ton, even after the bandages come off.
Giant buckles and VERY Narrow
Mine has giant buckles that don't appear to be the same as in the photos? That and the foot bed is VERY weirdly narrow. Otherwise, I like the general concept. They work as a slid, with a heal that can be pulled on for better security. Im not sure if they are comfortable for long walks yet or not.
PERFECT rafting sandals!
So I've been a big fan of Astral Footwear since my first pair of Brewers many moons ago. Specifically the balanced geometry midsole and unparalleled grip of the G-Rubber outsole make it hard for me to wear anything else besides Astral shoes. This summer I added the Webber to my quiver, and y'all - these things are freakin' amazing!! They are causal enough for any day around town, nice and breathable for that hot summer sun, and the PERFECT rafting sandal. Don't sacrifice grip, performance, or comfort especially on the water...get you some WEBBERS and you won't be disappointed!!!
Ultimate Dad Adventure Sandal
I’ve had a pair of the Webbers since June 2023 but before that I had a pair of the PFD sandals for over a year. As a stay at home dad I wore the PFDs for every thing and all 4 seasons - rafting, hiking, around town, grocery shopping, you name it and I wore them for the occasion. I retired my hiking shoes for grass cutting and other safety measures. The only thing I didn’t like about the PFDs was the way the buckle cut into my foot when I was kneeling down to tie a kids shoe but that was more on me than the sandal. When I first tried on the Webbers I was reluctant to like them because I was so used to the snug fit of the PFDs. I took them out West for a month long road trip to Montana with the family. Usual activities of day hiking, state fairs, water play on the the Yellowstone, Madison and Gallatin rivers, dining out, etc. and the Webbers became the new go to sandal. I still used my PFDs for rafting with the snugger fit and keeping small rocks out while in the water. I highly recommend these sandals for everyday wear if you consider shoes Foot Prisons like I do. Comfortable out of the box. Great fit for wide feet like mine and the ability to adjust the straps for a high instep is perfect. Of all the Astral footwear I have owned since the first Gen Brewers the PFD and the Webber have fit my foot type the best.
great all purpose sandal - city, trails and water
I wanted a secure, good looking sandal that bridged the gap between my super functional (but ugly) keen water sandals and my fashionable (but not waterproof) Birkenstocks. These Sandals fit the bill and now are by go-to open toe shoe. They are super comfortable for someone with flat feet like me (no intrusive arch to give me blisters!). They just feel good on my feet! The soles are grippy and they hold secure in running streams and rivers. They stay securely attached to my feet with the heel strap, even when running. The only fit critique is that since they are open toe (unlike my closed toe keens) they can pull the toe area down when walking up stream, and so they are not quite as easy to swim in. If you want a shoe for that, you'd probably get the Astral PFD instead of the Webber anyway. Finally, they are decent looking sandals and I've gotten a number of positive comments about them when wearing them on the street. Their versitility, ruggedness, and style make them a great travel shoe. I think Astral has a real winner here. Sizing: I was between sizes 11 and 12, so I sized up to 12.
Astra sandals rock
I have gone through many pairs of sandals of all sorts over decades. I have also been a I have also been an REI a member for decades (1970s)! For my particular set of feet, these might be the best ever! I have a narrow foot and I can adjust them so that it is perfect. I also have 1 foot 1/2 size larger than the other, but the adjustment compensates for that. They are great on wet surfaces and extremely comfortable. They run just a tad short so I recommend sizing up. My long foot is 12 1/2 so the size 13 fit perfectly.
Recommended shoe but size up
I chose this shoe to replace a pair of dying Chacos I've had for 4 years. I liked the combination of styling (Birk-like) but it also has the heel strap and is suitable for wet conditions. Not worth the full retail price but great value on sale. Size up! I'm a size 9-9.5 and the 9 was much too small, size 10 fit perfect.
