For boots: Add one half size to your street shoe size. You should be able to slip one finger behind your heel when you are standing up with the boot unlaced and your toes touching the front. If the boot is too short, your toes will get smashed walking downhill. Too long and your heel will slide up and down and give you blisters.

For context, I'm a gym only climber, hardest thing is 5.10d. Climb two to three times a week. These shoes were my first legit financial investment in climbing. They are comfortable, decently grippy, and worked well. I never ran into anything where I felt they were a limitation based on my climbing level. However after about 5 months, both shoes are splitting where the top is attached to the sole. Disappointing. They served their purpose for what they did, if you're a beginner to intermediate climber, these are a great entry level pair that don't break the bank.
The recommendation of sizing these things down by 2 to 3 sizes or 1 to 2 sizes for all-day comfort is just wrong. Size at your street shoe size or 1/2 size down. These shoes are not meant to be painful. Try them on first if possible. I've been climbing for 40 years and have gone through lots of shoes. I bought these relatively inexpensive shoes for the gym so I didn't wear out my more expensive shoes and ended up loving them for their comfort and acceptable performance level. If you are not climbing anything harder than 5.11 you don't need more expensive tighter shoes.
I bought these(EU 43) and a pair of the Evolve Defy Lace (10.5). The La Sportiva fit perfectly - that is quite snug but not painfully so. I normally wear dress shoes in a size 9.5-10 and running shoes more often in 10.5. I read reviews on the Evolves being hyper snug so went with 10.5. Side-by-side the Evolves are a fraction smaller than the La Sportiva 43. Both are very comfortable in the heel and tongue and tolerable in width (very snug but good for climbing). I like that both came with the double heel straps to help pull on!
I have no complaints against the performance of this shoe, they served me well as my first shoe. I started climbing in June 2022 and used them exclusively 3-4 times a week since then, ~60/40 mix of bouldering/routes in the gym. They fit true to my street size, broke in comfortably - I rarely need to take them off during a session - and it never felt like they were holding me back as I progressed from beginner to intermediate grades. That said, in just under 3 months of use they started forming holes in the toes on both shoes, right where the sole rubber connects to the toecap. I don't feel I've been particularly rough on them, but I suppose I haven't been easy on them either - and the folks who work at my gym said they see this a lot with this shoe. So ya, your mileage may vary but I'd still recommend it for a starter shoe, I really think it's a good all-rounder - and if you're anything like me you'll already be looking at new shoes, so when these ones start degrading you'll have an excuse to pull the trigger on an upgrade!
I climb about 2-3 times indoor a week around 3 hours a time and I’ve been wearing these for about 9 months now. Any beginner should definitely consider these! I can wear them for the whole session without having to take them off, they’re that comfortable. They’re very affordable too so I never worried about banging or scraping them on the walls. It gave me great confidence to just go full out on routes without worrying about damaging them. They are still in great condition with some slight toe wear, but if you learn proper technique, there’s no reason they shouldn’t last for awhile.
I think these are great shoes for casual climbing indoors and out. I have used these for about 4 months now. They are my first pair of climbing shoes and I really like them. They are not super aggressive, so they are comfortable to wear for long periods of time. Just and all-around great shoe to start climbing in.
Nice shoe, but they break quickly. I climbed 2-3x per week for ~6-months using these shoes. Pro is that they are a very comfortable shoe. Pretty flat, so are really comfy for nice long bouldering sessions. The downside is that these shoes break down really quickly. The eyelets both came out within a couple months of having the shoes. Now the laces are ripping out of the last eye-holes entirely. Would recommend getting something sturdier
Fantastic starter shoe. The price is perfect and they offer just a bit more then your average rental with the presence of mind that you get from wearing your own shoes. For six months these kept me on the wall and honestly while I could sit here and critique the shoes for $66 on sale they felt like an inflation proof deal. No complaints here. Enjoy!
I still can't. Good shoe so far, I got these to climb in the gym. I think I could have gone another half size smaller, but so far they are working well.
Ive had these for about a year at this point, I boulder with them religiously and have never once found myself blaming my shoes. These things are great for learning the ropes of climbing without dropping over $100. They are supportive, the traction is great even on smooth faces, and even with all the bulk(rubber allover the bottom and toe), you can still feel what your toes are touching. highly recommend. The only reason I gave it a 4star is because the bottom arch support is so clearly glued on I wonder how long until that starts to fail. It hasent yet; but im quite skeptical.
