Not good shoes and REI’s warranty policies
Stay away from On shoes, especially this line of shoes. Although advertised as the shoes with a lifespan of 100k miles, it torn after just over a year of low-intensity use. I wear this shoe about 2 times per week and only for casual walking and not for jogging because I have chronic pain in my left knee. And that's also the reason I chose to buy this shoe because I saw the advertisement as the most comfortable shoe. More than that, I have already recommended this brand to my wife and family. I have 2 pairs and my wife has 4 pairs of On. As you can see, The price of 1 pair of On shoes is not cheap compared to other sports shoe brands. However, the quality is disappointing. I have more than 10 pairs of other brands and none of them have had the same issue even though some I have used for more than 3 years. I checked the On Shoe's warranty and found out that these shoes come with a lifespan warranty except “defects due to the wrong fit, normal wear and tear”, so I'm not sure if they will take care for my case. From there, another problem arose. On only warranties shoes are purchased directly from their website, so On shoes purchased from other stores they are not responsible for. I went to the REI store in Olympia to ask about the warranty for my shoes but REI refused because their policy is to only guarantee products purchased within 1 year. So even if the product you buy has a lifetime warranty, REI is only responsible for 1-year warranty. If so, why should I buy from REI when I can buy the products for the same price elsewhere with better warranties? So I decided not to buy On and REI products anymore. Moreover, As you can see in the pictures, my wife's shoes are also damaged even with occasional use for daily activities. On need to improve on their product quality.

OnCloud/REI disappointment.
Not sure if I'm more disappointed with my shoes becoming defective after only 5 months of use, or the way my attempt to exchange at REI retailer was handled. Both of my cloud runners suddenly have a hole on the side after 5 months of use, went into REI retailer to get exchanged, I talked to the footwear associates and they told me my shoes should be replaced, and got me a new pair. Went to the register and the cashier said "I can't return these because defect is from wear and tear, after 5 months." I am a member of the REI program that guarantees returns for defective items after a year, and returns are the only reason why I have the account. Stop selling defective prone products when you know your return policy wont cover. Just another disappointing customer experience for me, and loss of my time. Don't buy these shoes from anyone.

Good on treadmill but tore holes in 5 months

Like other Reviews, I experienced a torn toe on both shoes after less than 6 months of wear. I have abused many other $40-$75 shoes for years without damage other than just running out of rubber on the soles. I thought splurging on $150 shoes would worth the price but I can't say that it is for these. I have submitted a warranty claim on their website and will try to return them to REI if that doesn't work - I will update my review once I hear back. As for the comfort, these felt great running on a treadmill but I found them pretty firm and unstable on pavement or dirt. You could feel every bump and the heel rides a little high so I have had many almost turned ankles. Great bounce on the treadmill though.

Not worth the hype

These are my second pair of ON sneakers. First pair I bought started to fall apart at less than 1 year after day of purchase. These ones are falling apart after less than 7 months, the inner lining and padding in the heel are already torn apart. I am not precisely the most avid and active runner. Certainly, there is no reason for these sneakers to fall apart so fast. Definitely, the materials used are of extremely low quality. I went to my nearest REI store (NYC), I was told that this is normal wear and tear. Thus, I was not entitled to any kind of refund. Clearly, REI is responsible and should be held accountable for selling a subpar product. We the members deserve better.

Poorly Constructed

I purchased these shoes five months ago and have not worn them excessively, however, today I noticed splits on the outside of each shoe where the outer ball of my feet are. I have not had this issue with comparably priced shoes and will avoid ONs in the future because of this.

Very nice fit and sole but horrible upper material

The fit, cushioning and bottom (sole, thread) is really nice but the upper material is terrible and makes this shoe unusable due to upper material ripping after using it for just 3 month.

Questionable quality

Disappointed with the quality of the upper part of the shoe, with plenty of life left a tear appeared on the side. I used these occasionally for walking and running for less than a year and as a travel shoe before the hole appeared. Looking at reviews online I am not the only one who has experienced this so I cannot recommend these shoes and question similar styles by the same brand. I attempted to bring this to the attention of REI at a store and they considered this normal wear and tear, they were not interested in collecting any information and would not exchange or refund these shoes. Be aware if you experience a similar defect in your shoes from REI there is a chance you might be stuck with them, even as a member. In my opinion it is not normal for the side of the shoe to tear open within a year of use.

Great comfort but not durable

The most comfortable shoes I ever owned, but unfortunately not durable around toecap area. Both shoes started to fall apart after three months of light usage. REI customer service was great, after examining the shoes and agreeing that it was lightly used they took them back. The shoes looked brand new except both started to have a hole around toecaps. I miss the comfort of them, ended up buying ASICS Gel, good shoes but not as comfortable as On Cloudrunner. I had two more On shoes as well, they are not as light and comfortable as Cloudrunner, I hope they fix the problem with its durability for the next year model.

Great Shoes, Slight Durability Issues

These are excellent functional shoes. They're extremely comfortable, stylish, and seem generally durable with the exception of the holes for the laces. I've tore holes on both shoes, which is a huge bummer because if not for that, these things would have a ton more life in them. Instead, I'm going to have to get some new shoes soon. But...even with that, I would definitely buy these again if they fixed this small problem.

Poor quality materials and no company support

After using these shoes for a couple of weeks they developed holes in the side of both shoes. No external abrasion caused this damage. The company refused to support their product and offered a 20% discount on a new MSRP shoes.

They WHERE the most comfortable pair of shoes...

I purchased these shoes to train for a mini-marathon because they were the most comfortable pair of shoes I ever tried on. I ran a 5k and 6 mile run race 4 weekends apart and had about 50 miles of total use before the fabric began pulling away from the sole. Unfortunately they will not make it to the race I purchased them for. It is a shame because I have chronic knee issues and they were very helpful at mitigating wear and tear on my knees, but 2 months and no more than 70 miles of estimated total use (including walking and regular wear) should not ruin a pair of high end, expensive shoes.
