I bought these tights in November 2023 and they haven't lasted a year. My first hike, the pocket got snagged by a branch and created a hole. No problem, just a hole in the pocket. Other small snags from tree branches in the legs creating holes. Then going over deadfall, more rips. Can't really repair them out in the backcountry so the holes just grew. After 5 backcountry hiking trips in them they are no longer useable. Disappointed as I thought these would be durable and last much longer.
I got the M size older version with thicker fabric and loopy-velcro reinforced areas in late 2021. I like those better, though I need to pull them up from time-to-time with a waist pack while hiking. The new style has thinner fabric and basically flat reinforcement. I had to get a L size, as M felt too tight (I made an error and ordered S but could barely get those on). M felt like a stuffed sausage; maybe the older ones have stretched out but since I've lost weight and could gain some back, L is better. I have not decided on these, as the thinner fabric shows underwear lines and I don't like that. I also wonder how well they'd hold up to snags, as sometimes I'm off trail in shrubs.
I purchased these leggings for a backpacking trip in the hopes that they would be durable enough while still being form fitting and cute. When I put them on, I quickly realized why Fjallraven is such a highly recommended brand. The material is lightweight, breathable, and comfortable. The knees and butt are reinforced and seem like they will hold up well. The sizing was perfect for me. I’m 5’4 and around 125 lbs and I purchased an XS (I wanted them to fit like leggings) and they fit like a glove while allowing full range of motion. I’ll admit, I was a bit off put by the other reviews posted but decided to try them anyways. Highly recommend for those looking for quality durable hiking leggings for warm to cool temps. (They do feel too light for really cold weather).
Beautiful and durable for 45°+. Still could use some improvement. I ordered a small based on the size chart (5’3”, 135lbs, average athletic build) and I’m not sure if these are a tad too small in the legs or if it’s just a weird fit. There’s a bit of bunching behind the knees, and while the waist does not create the dreaded muffin top, they do slip down a bit, including in the inseam. The waist drawstring can help this but patience is required to undo the knot especially when you really have to go, so I kept them untied. After some hiking, I didn’t noticed either of these issues as much as I was enjoying the woods. More for hiking than for running for sure as the material, while great, is not as soft as I’d like for a running tight. My recent hike was at close to freezing along a ridge. My legs were going numb and I’m not sure if it was from the compression or from the cold. I’d like to try the Varm in a size medium while they discounted, but the largest size available is a small. I will say the pockets are perfect and can securely fit my phone and other items with no jiggle. Overall, beautiful tight with just a couple imperfections in the way the small size fits me. I’d say if you’re concerned about too much compression, size up.
Without wanting to sound erratic, these are without a doubt the best item of clothing I own. I could rave about them all day to anyone who would listen. I have worn mine weekly now for work and day-to-day life for over two years and no issues. The pockets are fantastic, I can fit gloves, phone, keys, etc. The material is comfortable, light, durable and practical in any weather. I feel confident and happy when I wear them. I am a photographer/videographer for a living and work in a variety of different environments both indoor and out. When not at work I am busy entertaining my child and exploring in the countryside or going to playdates and the tights look good in any situation.
I’m not sure whether I’ll keep these. The fabric is much stiffer than that of the previous Abisko trekking tights, and they might be cut smaller. This makes them bind behind my knees in an almost painful way. I’m a medium according to the size chart and in my Abisko tights purchased last year (30in waist), but these in the same size were an absolute struggle to get on. I wouldn’t want to be fighting to get myself into leggings this tight on a backpacking trip, for sure. My old tights were snug at first but not to this degree, and they loosened up nicely after a couple of wears, but these are so tight that I doubt they’ll loosen up enough, especially behind the knees. Oh, and the stitching is scratchy and too tight under the butt and above the knees. I might try a large but in all reality I just don’t really like this new fabric (it’s more like regular stuff yoga pant fabric vs the older one which was a sleek and compressive yet comfortably stretchy) so maybe not. Why did this company have to go and change a good thing???
I'd been eyeing these tights for ages because of all the pockets that are great for hiking and the reinforced knees and bum. Plus, they're just so darn cute. So when I saw they were significantly marked down, I finally pulled the trigger. I'm glad I got them on sale, but even with the discount, I wouldn't repurchase. The fit is fine, runs slightly small - I'm normally a M in athletic tights and purchased this in L given it's a European brand, and based on other reviews. My complaints though are due to how uncomfortable these are. You can feel every single seam on these tights, and the fabric on the knees and bum is like sandpaper. I can only imagine the chafing that will happen if I'm not careful. I have a similar pair from another outdoor company that fit much better and are far more comfortable. So these are cute, but I won't plan on wearing them for anything but extremely short hikes.
After snagging the rear of my old REI hiking tights while atop Mt Defiance (hee hee whoops), I thought I would give these a try. Other reviews seemed to insist that these were the best in the market, while they do fit well and the pockets are nicely designed, they failed in the durability department. I snagged them the first time I wore them, while stepping over a blowdown on the trail. LAME. The other negatives include lack of breathability and the side pockets stretch out after use.
I was excited to try these after trying the Abisko Trekking Tights W, hearing the fit had improved. Alas, this was not the case. I love the reinforced knees and solid stitching, but the gusset and crotch point are totally wrong. It's like the designer had his entire idea of a women's anatomy described over the phone as he went through a tunnel. The triangle gusset is sewn in the back by the rear panels! I'm a small gal (5'1", 110lbs) and the camel toe effect was so extreme as to make these unwearable in sizes xs, s, and m, the latter 2 being extremely baggy everywhere else. For this price point, I'll take lululemon or athleta and miss out on the reinforcement. At least I can wear those in public.
I bought this last week and it was made in Vietnam. The information was printed on the tights, which I think it is better than a physical label. I am 58kg / 161 cm. The tights (size S) are very tight on my legs but there is still much room at the butt, so when I walk I could feel the butt area a little bit strange. Regarding comfort, Abisko Trekking Tights Pro are less comfortable as the Abisko trail tights I own, but warmer. You can literally feel the compression and tightness of Abisko Trekking Tights Pro when you put it on.
