yes, but...
futureflece is amazing, but how it made is not good(
I wear this sweater ALL THE TIME!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is an absolutely fantastic cool, dry weather full zip hoodie, and I've found I end up wearing it all the time. The inside is very comfortable, and the fact the neckline when fully zipped almost acts as an impromptu neck gator is amazing. It is very thin though (by intentional design), so if it's moderately to fairly windy and below 55 degrees you probably want to either pair it with a more robust outer shell jacket, or something weather/wind proof. If it's raining it won't be any good, but it's not designed to be weatherproof. It's great by itself in mild temperatures, or as a base layer under additional insulation/jackets.
Versatility Defined
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've worn this full zip hoodie about ten days now. Cross country skiing as an outer in a variety of temperatures with either a long or short sleeved t-shirt underneath. It breathes incredibly well yet blocks the wind better than my Patagonia Nano air hoodie. It is surprisingly warm for such a lightweight jacket. It has a nice bit of stretch allowing for a full range of movement. If I started to get a chill I just put up the toasty hood. I've also used it lift service tele skiing underneath my futurelight shell where it serves well as an insulating layer without feeling bulky or restrictive. I was glad that he hood fit easily over my XL helmet. I'm a fan of this piece for sure!
Ideal Liner
One might assume this fleece does almost nothing to keep you warm, given it’s so thin. But I tried it on at The North Face store and it was just as warm as a conventional fleece that’s twice its thickness. It’s perfect for Seattle weather. And the main reason I bought it was for layering under my REI Flash Air rain jacket since there’s virtually no added bulk. The one downside is that REI doesn’t carry it in their stores for customers to try on. That’s a shame. The only reason I can think of is the relatively high cost compared to a conventional fleece. But the way I look at it, this FutureFleece will last for decades and the the benefit of a thin, warm liner far outweighs a few extra bucks.
No, started coming apart after only 2 weeks.
The hem started coming apart on the left side of the fleece after wearing only 4 times. None of the times were in "summit" conditions either. When I asked the TNF about it they told me to go through the warranty process, and I only had the hoodie for 2 weeks. I am returning this as it is definitely not "summit" ready for me. Your mileage may vary of course.
So far so very good!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Perfect for lounging around or in the office. I like putting the hood over a trucker hat or beanie for warmth. Can't wait to layer with my ski kit; that's what I really bought it for. Stay tuned. Super low weight yet generates big time heat and breaths when you're active. Makes Patagonia's R1 almost feel bulky by comparison.
Would recommend and buy another
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love the look and feel of this jacket. It looks amazing on me. It is perfect for a cool day and great for going to the gym in style. I would give this 5 stars if only it hand pockets for your hands. Crazy to have a jacket without hand pockets, but maybe that would make it look worse? I dunno.
This is my second one!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Fantastic warmth and very light. Used it as a mid-layer for mount Whitney last year. Outstanding. I tore it on some thorns while in Joshua Tree however; I bought it a second time now as I love it so. Great for post-surf stoke as well! (I do wish it had pockets for your hands!)
Super warm and great for climbing
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Best piece of gear! Super warm and hugs your body. Great for climbing! Great first base layer. Only negative thing is that they don't have pockets. Although, that's sort of what makes it great for climbing. Stays tight to the body and nothing to hang up on.
Best hat when running.
It's warm and good for running in winter. It's good to wear as a middle line when hiking in the cold, and it's good to maintain body temperature indoors. It's good for keeping warm and absorbing sweat.
