Charging port may be weak
I liked the helmet it easily adjusts to your noggin. The front light is not super bright you’d need a dedicated light for serious night riding, but having lights front and back helps you to be seen especially in today’s world of distracted driving and amazingly distracted bike riders as well. It doesn’t have a large battery, I can get about 3 rides of up to 20-25 miles or so before it needs to be charged. I did return one helmet (exchanged it) about 3 months after purchasing when a piece the charging port came out when I removed the charging cord so that is where you need to be careful. The port cover is a bit fiddly. I can’t speak of the MIPS ability of the helmet as I have kept the rubber side down while riding.
Great visibility; somewhat clunky
I lived in Henderson/Las Vegas for over 40 years and started riding with front & rear lights about 8 years ago for (some) piece of mind what with all the traffic. It was always a pain to keep 2 lights charged - one always seemed to last much longer than the other. While this helmet is a little clunky & somewhat heavy it fits great, is easy to adjust and the lights are quite visible - especially in flashing mode. I still ride with 2 bike lights in addition to the helmet and live in a city with about 40,000 but it is just as easy for auto drivers to miss seeing you here as in a large metro area but the extra lights and MIPS construction give me extra comfort.
MIP helmet charger failure.
The helmet light function failed after two weeks the USB connection at the helmet failed with less than two weeks of use and therefore the battery cannot be charged. We are on a cross continent bicycle trip and obviously need the helmet but are nowhere near an REI store I don't know if there is any solution to replace this helmet whilst we are travelling across the United States.
Good, not great
I found this helmet to do exactly what I wanted. High visibility with the MIPS safety feature. Like others, the front light popped out early on. I simply glued it back in and never had another problem. After two years, the charging port became inoperable and now I’m forced to purchase a new one bc “it's past its warranty.” That’s a defect of the manufacturer, not me.
Great Commuter Helmet
For year round commuting, this is a good balance of warmer enough in the winter (with a hat) and not too hot in the summer. It's also really nice to have a backup set of light in case your bike lights die on the ride home. I particularly like using this helmet for the front light. It's not bright enough to bike at night on its own but that makes it perfect to strobe during my commute. If I'm afraid that a car doesn't see me I try to look directly at them so that they might pick up my flashing light - it's worked pretty well so far but isn't nearly bright enough to be blinding to a driver or other biker. The lights don't have a very long battery so they have to be charged often but you get used to needing to charge it every few days.
Disappointed with design
This helmet was disappointing. After wearing it to commute to work 12 times, the micro usb charging port broke. I didn't charge it every time I used it and I used all the cords it came with. The front light wasn't glued in and regularly popped out. The helmet itself was not well ventilated, but fit fine. The lights worked great for the length of time they worked. The lights had 2 modes, on and blinking.
The lights don’t last very long.
The helmet fits great, and the built-in lights are perfect the night riding that I do. However, on a full charge the battery runs out in about an hour. Hopefully I just got a bad apple because I’m going to exchange for another Escape.
Flimsy micro USB
The lights work great, the helmet itself was fine, but the problem, was I wore it to commute to work and after 12 times of using it, it broke. I used the cord it came with and it pulled out the micro USB and the front light fell out. I pushed it back in and it was fine, but it kept popping out. I would ride to work, then connect it to my backpack on the helmet specific holder thing, and it would sit in a corner. Nothing crazy, no throwing or dropping. I was disappointed that it lasted 12 days of riding.
Fits well but the charging mechanism broke
Like some others here, the charger broke so I will be returning this.
I love it
I went for this helmet because it had two sets of lights. The lights serve as an extra boost of visibility and also a backup in case your main lights fail. The white helmet goes with my bike and helps too. I didn’t know anything about MIPS until I bought it but sounds good! I’ll take all the help I can get. It’s comfortable for long rides and hasn’t failed me yet after 1000 miles or so.
