Nearly perfect
I recently used this product on a long day hike and have to say it served it's purpose. It was relatively easy to fill, was lightweight and easy to pack, and was without defect. Some items that were not perfect were the zipper and the hook. I found the zipper really needed to be pulled tight in order to prevent leaking. This is even called out in the packaging but I could see myself forgetting and having water leak in my bag if not careful. The other item was the hook at the top to connect to your pack. I found this to be a little small and had to force my strap through it. This is a minor detail but worth mentioning in case your pack has a large strap to hook it to. Otherwise it worked great. I paired this with a Life Straw which made for an awesome backpacking setup.
Ovreall, A Great 2L Reservoir!
I'm not usually a fan of CamelBak reservoirs, but I was thoroughly impressed with the Fusion 2L. The combination of the integrated handle and ping grips really makes filling up at a sink or spout really easy. The big bite valve was also not hard; it was easy to bite on while drinking. As for the attached On/Off lever, it was really handy and worked as expected. This was also surprisingly compact for a 2L reservoir! My 1.5L reservoir is more rectangular in shape and just feels more bulky when filled so I was very surprised about how simple, more square-ish design can make it a 2L reservoir. Lastly, the last thing that impressed me was the quick link system that connects the hose to the reservoir itself. It was very easy to attach and detach. My other reservoirs take a decent effort to attach and detach even though they have buttons themselves, but the Fusion's is really easy and I was very surprised. The reason for the four star review is for the follow 2 demerits. I personally do not like the Tru Zip that opens and closes the reservoir. It was very difficult for me to open and seemed kind of inconvenient, but I expect something with this design to be difficult to open so that the water doesn't spill out. I think a better design could be used, but zip function served its purpose as intended and no water spilled out. The second reason is due to the rigid backplate. In my opinion, the backplate is a little too small for my needs hiking and running. I was a little worried with how little it covered as I was running and although there was no issue with it in the end, it did concern me and it made me think about it a lot. Not sure if extended use will change my opinion, but again, overall I believe this is a great product. If you like CamelBak reservoirs and need a handy 2L, this will more than likely suit your needs!
CamelBak Fusion Reservoir Leaks
This was an amazing product overall, i wanted to like this new design so bad. I love the new zipper and the added rigidness added to the back of the bladder. However the bladder has a major design flaw. When the bladder has pressure applied to it water leaks out of the zipper. So if you put your pack down and the weight of the pack is resting on the bladder it will make your pack wet. I dont know how camelbak overlooked this. im so sad because i wanted a different opening mechanism for so long!
Now a Convert: Love me a Camelback Reservoir
TBH I wasn’t that into reservoirs with soppy straws. Maybe it’s because I’ve been doing this for years, and have been long-acclimated to water bottles, or maybe because the idea of drinking from a tube seemed gross. But after hiking the Whites last year and refilling way too often I decided to try the Camelback system and I absolutely love it. One, the convenience. Two lit of water on demand makes hydrating while hiking tremendously easy. Two, the good design. The zipper is sturdy and easy to grip, the reservoir easy to fill, the whole package easy to slide into the reservoir sleeve. It was warm when I was on the trail but I can see the zipper is designed for use when your fingers might be cold/stiff or wearing gloves. Three, the ergonomics. The flat reservoir and panel work with the pack so that you don’t notice the bulk. There’s no movement, no bulge. It feels good. One issue was I found the tube to be a little long for my 40 lit pack - probably a better fit with a larger pack. Not a big deal though. it worked without issue. To sum it up: Instinctive, comfortable, durable. I’m all-in on supply straw reservoirs now.
New Features are SO Convenient
Highly recommend this hydration set for shorter days on the trail or at the beach, park, etc. - it's a great alternative to carrying a bottle. Love that the 2L size fits into more compact packs. The new zip closure makes it super easy to fill and lies flat in your pack. The new bite valve lock system is my favorite part - no more dealing with the tiny, hard to twist locks - the flip makes it so easy to use when you're exhausted mid- hike.
Solid reservoir with some nice features
The large opening makes it very easy to clean and fill. The zipper was impressive and seemingly durable; I didn’t have any issues with it leaking. The baffle in the back was helpful for drying but does add some weight. There are also finger holds on the back that makes it easier to fill with one hand. The small size made it easy to fit in all my backpacks. The tube was very long and made it easy to drink while hiking.
Great for day hikes, didn’t love on long trips
I haven’t used a camelbak in years but have always loved them in the past. It seems that the designs have gotten more intentional and sturdier as well (the zip top is hefty and ensures it doesn’t leak, the mouth piece has a larger opening which makes it easier to clean, and in my opinion the tube seems longer so I had no issues threading it through my pack and over my shoulder). My only qualm with it is that I received this item while on a thru hike and it was an added step I didn’t appreciate while backpacking to have to remove it from my pack, filter water into and smush it back into my bag with so much stuff to navigate. I have since found that it using it on day hikes is much more preferable since my pack isn’t as loaded with other gear. I’ve used it on every hike since and enjoy it more than a water bottle! The 2L can get me through a 10-12 mile hike.
improved but be careful it works with your pack
I'm a long time user of previous generations of Camelbak, Osprey hydraulics and Gregory. Biggest disappointment is the hanger hole does not support the new tab for hanging that is on Osprey packs. Description says compatible with all packs, nope, better check. It is several ounces heavier then the Osprey also. Camelbak still has the best bite valve. Integrating with a filter is a big plus! The gravity kit should be a great convenience, haven't tried it yet. Bottom line is this new design is better then the older screw on cap.
Leaks
I wanted to like this design, but on the very first use, it leaked. I had the bladder in my little backpack, with no other gear, and it was laying on the car seat next to me. After a couple hours, my backpack was soaked. And last night, it was laying on the table, and I woke up to a soaked bag this morning. If the bladder is t upright, with the zipper at the top, it leaks. Lying on its side or upside down results in drip, drip, drip
Almost Perfect
I was a little nervous about a zip-close bag but ended up pleasantly surprised with how easy it is to use. Pros of the bag: easy to clean, easy to fill and the bite valve has good flow and is soft. Some of the other leading brands have a hard plastic at the center when biting to use that often worries me about the potential to crack a tooth when biting down for a drink while running. The on/off switch for the bite valve is easy to use and can be managed with one hand. Cons: Weight of the bag. I enjoy backpacking and this bag is on the heavier side. Width of the bag. The bag has a rigid plastic at the top that is very snug in my trail running vest. It works but it's close to not fitting. With that being said, I tend to grab this bag for my everyday hikes/trail running because I prefer the style of bite valve on the bag.
