Smartwool  Performance Hike Light Cushion Mid Crew Socks - Men's

I bought these in Large size. They were just a bit snug going on, but I have larger ankles and calfs. The material is very comfortable. I am wearing these with sneakers, hiking shoes and Teva sandals. I am going to buy a 2nd pair at REI.

I like this brand under most conditions but in wet and/or sweaty weather my feet will shift and slide a bit causing some hot spots or blisters. I think this brand is exceptional but I prefer to wear them under ideal conditions rather than wet conditions. They fit well, maintain their shape, and last a long time. I would buy more pairs of these but prefer another brand for wet/sweaty conditions.

Living in Florida I wondered if wool was going to work. The weight is perfect and will get plenty of use.

Perfect weight and warmth for spring. These are so comfortable I regret only getting a single pair.

Beware of less content, less sock, same price: These socks are a poor imitation of the earlier version of Performance Hike socks. There is less wool content, less snug and less comfortable when hiking. Additionally the crew height is about an inch lower than any crew socks.

Normally I opt for XL since I'm right at the top of L and bottom of XL sizes. I tried Large this time and was quite impressed. The height really helped it not squeeze my calf irritatingly. Snug fit all around my foot, didn't sag out even after a couple back to back days hiking, or after eventually washing #dirtbag It's much cooler than the medium cushion socks that I usually wear and hike in. Less bulky in my hikers, and managed moisture a lot more effectively. #smartwoollove

These socks are a bit tight on the leg and also a little short. I ordered a medium based on the size chart. Though the socks are described as having light cushioning, I wish I had bought them with no cushioning. I was annoyed that they charged me for shipping after ordering more socks than I needed so as to meet the shipping minimum. And if they want to copy Darn Tough in look and material, why not give the same lifetime guarantee?

I have worn the black and gray Women's PhD Run Cold Weather Mid Crew as my everyday fall/winter socks for several years. They hit just right under my ankle boots. Those are no longer made so I was looking for the next closest thing, which was a bit of a struggle. There are very few Smartwools in the black/gray color scheme with light padding (both for warmth and extra cushion when I'm walking in low heels all day) and mid profile. I ended up with these, which are also labeled Mid Crew, but as you can see from the photo actually hit about 3 inches higher on my calf than the old ones, which doesn't really line up with the diagrams or photos on this page. Aside from the height, they seem pretty similar in fit and padding to the Run Cold Weather. I'm not sure I like the spot it hits on my leg, but if it annoys me, I'll probably just fold the top over to match the height of my boots.

I'm a huge fan of Smartwool socks - their ski socks, the heavy duty hiking socks, and now these. . . . just slightly shorter than the regular crew, they are slightly less constrictive on my lower leg. Also just slightly cooler for summer wear. The amount of padding is perfect for running, which is my primary use for these.
