Sizing Notes
Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements.
SHORT: Some pants are available in short sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 2.5 inches shorter than regular sizes.
TALL: Some pants, shirts, jackets and parkas are available in tall sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 3 inches longer and a rise that is 1 inch longer, a shirt or jacket body that is 2 inches longer, a parka body that is 2.5 inches longer and sleeves that are 2.5 inches longer than regular sizes.
Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.
Inseam is measured to the floor.

Customer Images
Would be nice to receive them new ...
... especially when paying full price. When they arrived there were runs in the material (several threads pulled out from the surface of the fabric). It also appeared to be piling in the seat from wear. And on top of that, there were body hairs in the liner (I didn't feel the need to take pictures of these). The pair of shorts had obviously been around the block. I understand the challenges that come with keeping product in the system until it sells for good. But REI used to have a bi-annual blow-out sale for used items, and that would have been a better marketplace for these shorts. This was unfortunate because they look like a nice, light, comfortable pair of running shorts. However, at least one other customer (and possibly more than one) didn't think so.
Super Light Comfortable Shorts
These shorts are extremely comfortable you hard notice you are wearing anything. Very light, breathable material on the outer layer and the built in compression short. I personally prefer shorter shorts for less material, these are a little longer but you don't notice the difference. A couple small built in stash pockets (good size for small snacks) and one larger zip pocket (good size for keys, ID, etc.). No space for phone or water bottle so if you prefer those on the trail or longer runs you'll still want another means to carry. The elastic waistband is a fairly thick (a couple inches wide) so depending on where that rides on you it may not be great, but I had no issues with it.
Super comfortable running short
Shorts and liner are made out of a super comfortable, stretchy, wicking material. Im usually not a fan of liners in shorts but these are more of the boxer brief style and are prettty inobtrusive. The back pocket is just barely big enough for an iphone 13 and there are a couple smaller pockets for a gel or keys. The only thing i would change is I wish there a couple of hand pockets. The hand pockets are nice for times when you’re not running and are easily emptied when you are. Other than the pockets these shorts were perfect for my recent trip out to Big Bend Ranch state park.
Stellar all around shorts
Great pair of shorts that fit perfectly for running, lifting, hiking, etc. No front pockets, but they do have two small back pockets and a zippered pocket at the small of the back on the waistband. I have an Iphone SE with a waterproof cover and it won't fit. You'll need a running vest or a light daypack if you want to carry anything with you. I tend to be an in between guy on medium and large. I'm 6', 190 lbs and at the top end of the mediums. I went with that based on another pair of REI shorts I have in medium that have a bit more generous cut. If you like a looser fit, I'd bump up a size. They allow for great movement and I wear them all the time!
My new favorite hot weather shorts
I got these shorts a few weeks back and have logged miles both running on pavement and out on trails and they have quickly become my new favorites. It has been unseasonably warm and they have been a life saver. Very comfortable and breathable during long hikes without sacrificing support. I love the zippered pocket on the back of the waist, big enough for an ID and credit card while running or for my key fob while hiking. I typically prefer a longer short as I am tall (6’4”) but I found these were kind of the sweet spot when doing a lot of vertical hiking, or trail running; coverage that doesn’t obstruct full motion movements. I fully expect to by another pair or two before summer fully kicks in.
Good, needs bigger back pocket.
This is my first pair of lined shorts and I found them to be quite comfortable. However, the back pocket situation is a bit strange. All 3 pockets are pretty small. It's fine for the sides (perfect for holding keys), but the back needs to be larger. I have an iPhone Pro Max and it barely fits. It looks very strange, as the phone is larger than the pocket and it needs to stretch to accommodate. I'm not sure whether this will rip the pocket eventually. The pocket should be made large enough to accommodate all mainstream phones including the Pro Max sized iPhones. And, perhaps moved to the inside of the waistband so it doesn't protrude so much.
Perfect length shorts for kayaking
I am a 68 year old woman, 5'7, 170 lbs., who looks for shorts that are a little bit longer than what I can usually find in the Women's Department. I have discovered that because my waist and my hips aren't necessarily symmetrical that shopping in the men's department is the perfect alternative for me. These shorts are just amazing they are light, easy to move in and the fact that they actually have a liner that is longer a real game changer! Then I found a matching top in the Women's Department and both on sale! They were great one a recent kayaking trip.
Shorts ride up when running
Shorts are well thought out and feel great running. Pockets are nice, liner is actually a nice touch. Wasn't sure if I was going to like it. The major issue I have is the shorts ride up over my hips no matter how hard I tie the drawstring. I start running with where I like to have the waistband on my hips and they immediately ride up above my hip bones. I've never had a pair of running shorts do this. The drawstring is thin, not sure if that matters in this problem. The waistband is also much taller than other shorts I've owned which feels very nice until I start running. To solve, I fold the waistbad in half and they stay put. Not ideal.
Another great Swiftland running product!
I've been a daily runner for 25 years, and the Swiftland run shirts, pants and shorts are the best. I've already raved (in previous reviews) about the shirts and pants (best I've ever found for wicking, fit and function!!), and the shorts fit that bill too. The boxer brief lining is new to me in running shorts, and I wasn't sure I'd like it. But the loose fit and good wicking relieve that concern, and I've not had chaffing issues when running on hot, humid days. I'm also used to side pockets, so (again) I wasn't sure I'd like the small back pockets. But I've gotten used to that too and think it's a smart feature. A great product.
terrible drawstring/design
Unclear why these get such high reviews. I really wanted to like them a lot, and when you put them on they feel solid but the second I started jogging no matter how tightly I tied the drawstring it kept both loosening and the shorts would slide lower and lower. I wasn’t running hard, just east jogging on the treadmill at home. It’s almost like there was too much extra fabric in the waist area around where the drawstring is which felt like it gave the string too much room to move. Overall these are a huge miss, you’re better off with the cheap Amazon fitness shorts compared to these which is really saying something.
