LP6: Best Lone Peak Yet!
This is my 3rd Altra Lone Peak and am moving up from the LP4.5 to the LP6. I moved to a zero drop/Altra option a few years ago after 20+ years of wearing orthotics. I had a lot of pain and issues with plantar fasciitis and then moving to a zero drop shoe with toe socks, toe spacers and metatarsal pads has significantly helped in eliminating my plantar fasciitis issues ( a big shout out to my local Podiatrist for the change!). My primary uses for the LP’s are for hiking, walking, light running, and the gym. Every version I have owned to date has been of great service for my needs and each version was a significant improvement over the last version I owned. I have now had the LP6’s for a few days and they have been incredible. I have test driven them at the gym and outside for about 10 miles or so. Out of the box, the fit, comfort and flexibility is the best yet. I have been using them with my toe socks, toe spacers and metatarsal pads. I find the stride comfortable and quick, the fit is like a glove with good heel lockdown and enough fit and comfort in the mid foot and fore foot. The toe box is roomy and comfortable (something I struggled with in the LP5). The combination of the midsole cushion, upper materials and the reinforced toe box and toe surround should hopefully provide for longer life. With regards to the outer sole itself, it appears to be grippy like earlier LP’s but not as much as maybe a Vibram sole. In terms of sole durability only time will tell. Thanks Altra for listening to your loyal consumer base and making a lot of the changes that now make the LP6 the best yet!

Poorly constructed shoes
I bought these shoes after reading favorable reviews. I’d also read about the tendency of the soles and upper shoe to wear out and rip apart. Immediately upon trying them on, I noticed the top fabric of the shoes above the toe box was wrinkled and extremely flimsy-looking. I walked 50 feet and the cushioning was extremely poor. It felt like I was wearing $70 walking shoes. The Altras are going back for a refund.

Passed the initial tests.

Comfortable shoe out of the box and met my expectations on first couple hikes. I have not tried them on rocky or boulder trail yet, but grip seems pretty good.

Last Altra of many

Fit great but fell apart even faster than usual……trashed after 90 miles in the winds. Last pair barely lasted 200 miles on Colorado trail. Moving on to something else…almost $2 per mile….cheaper to drive!

Yes I would absolutely purchase this product again

LP-6 mens 11.5 wide(that is Altar wide) not necessarily ergonomically correct and Oblique toebox and forfoot, somewhat restricted compared to, Softstar & Be-lenka. I wish Altra would kick it into gear. They are less, but much better than normal uniform footwear for law enforcement(Or anyone that has to wear a black shoe boot at their job) would be nice if they made more shoes in the wide width make them even "more wider" not the heel area but the foefoot toebox.

Great for wide and flat feet

These shoes are very comfortable and fit well with wide AND flat feet. The toe box is nice and wide so no scrunched up toes. There is no elevation in the heel which I might not have noticed if anyone didn't mention it. Breathability is very good but I have only used these between 50-74°F. There is minimal arch support. The soles are not stiff and they grip well in loose dirt and sharp rocky surfaces. The shoes feel light on the feet. They fit a little larger than other shoes so one should consider down sizing for a perfect fit. Only gripe is that WIDE sizing is available only in black/red and not in any of the other color combinations.

Hands down my favorite shoe

I bought these in March 2022 along with a pair of Astral TR1 Meshes (reviewed separately). In 10 months, they have just over 500 miles on them with a mix of pavement, gravel, rock and dirt. They’ve been tested through triple digit heat, single digit cold, and rain. They’ve worn exceptionally well. The foot shape is great for my narrow heels and wide feet. The cushioning is superb. I’ve been so happy that I recently ordered 2 new pairs on sale for my 2023 rotation.

Terrible quality stay away.

I’ll start by saying i loved these shoes for the first couple weeks. They fit well were comfortable and lite. I have owned these for 2 months. The foam in the sole compressed and was paper thin (1/8”) after one month of use. About 100 miles if I had to guess. I used these for hiking the AT in PA and had pain almost every step due to the cushion being completely gone. You will feel every Little Rock and pebble. I reached out to Altra for their 300 to 500 mile warranty for manufacturing defects. And was told they won’t do anything to help me because this is normal wear and tear… how is it normal for them to wear out in 1 month of use. I’m not a thru hiker. I’m a weekend warrior. My advice is to stay away from altra. I will be returning these. And will stick to Speedgoats. Thank goodness for Rei’s refund policy. I’m just mad I have to use that because Altra won’t stand behind their product.

Comfortable and Slippery

The first time I tried these on I thought they were so amazing I ordered a second pair in a different color. I took it on some hikes but also enjoyed just wearing around with no complaints. In dry times the newer shoe felt ultra grippy but now I’ve seen that wet traction is non-existent. We are out traveling and I often feel like I’m walking on ice when the rest of the family even my toddler have zero issues. On wet days I’m actually more confident in my flip flops. It’s still very comfortable on dry days. The fabric around the shoe opening is wearing quickly. What a disappointment; I thought I was on to something.

Solid and comfortable shoe, but I've had better grip

Altra LP 6's - Mens 9.5 - Fit well, took them on a recent Yosemite trip, have hiked over 100 miles & > 11k in elevation, shoes feel good however, I was slipping coming down from the half dome cables and feel more confident in my Continental sole'd shoes from a different MFG when it pertains to grip. Perhaps a slightly unfair condition as it was very steep and very slick, but that's when I hoped to rely on great grip from new shoes the most. Other than that, I've enjoyed them very much and will probably purchase again if they continue to hold up.

Amazing right out of the box.

By no means a avid hiker. The lone peaks are very comfortable with zero break in for me. They handled rocky slopes and gravel roads with no problem. Pretty stable with a good feel of the surface your on. I cannot speak on the grip on wet rocks yet. But overall I am very impressed and happy with my first altra shoes.

Decent all around shoe for outdoors

I was looking for a shoe with a decent lifespan that I could use as my every day shoe, but also capable of hiking and some trail running. I'm primarily a rock climber, so I needed something with decent traction on wet sandstone trails. I originally wasn't going to even look at Altra after my Timp 3s shredded their upper mesh within a year of use, but I found these in the garage sale section at my local REI. With the newer models having gone to this rip-proof upper, I was willing to give it a shot and I've been much happier with the rate of wear on these shoes. I have found them to be comfortable in nearly every scenario, including trail running, hiking and normal use. I also find that the laces stay together a lot better than my Timp 3 laces did. I also appreciate that I can step in some water with these before they start getting wet internally, but once they're wet inside they leak out and dry relatively quickly. Overall very pleased with these shoes and I'm glad whoever returned them after a few uses didn't like the fit because I've really enjoyed them.
