Lightweight backpacking boot proves it is worthy.
Needed a winter boot with a water proof membrane. My feet run hot so I really want a breathable waterproof boot. That said, it was comfort right out of the box. I took time to make sure the socks worn and the fit was correct. Used for backpacking in snow, slush, mud, and rugged trail climbing in Colorado in temps ranging from 20-60 degrees. The Moab 3 works for me.

These boots aren't for me
Received free product
These boots are well made, which is standard for Merrell products. I have a low top shoe from them for at least 10 years, and they're still going strong. The Moab 3 is a waterproof, rugged and heavy boot (2lbs 4oz for the pair). I took them out for about 50 miles on various hikes through the redwoods and they felt comfortable. The only complaint at the time was that the toe box is narrow. I usually wear trail runners that have large toe boxes, so any shoe that doesn't have that, my toes feel squished. To give them a better test, I took them out on the 25 mile Lost Coast Trail recently, which is a combination of sand, rocks, and a little bit of compacted trail. I originally planned to do this as an out and back trip to avoid having to pay for a shuttle. On the first day, I did 15 miles and my feet were destroyed! The boots do not absorb any impact, so all those miles of hiking on rocks was rough. Every impact was felt. This may be resolved by replacing the insoles with cushy ones, but that will only do so much since the soles are hard as a rock. In the past 5 years of hiking on a regular basis, I have never had blisters until these boots. They fit properly, I wore my sock liners and wool socks as usual, but they were no match for these boots. Thankfully I had Leuko tape with me to cover the blisters and hot spots. This helped some, but by the time I finished 25 miles, my feet were not happy with me, and I was unable to do the 25 mile return trip. I was disappointed because I know I could have done it as an out and back if I didn't have these boots on. These boots are good if you already wear boots and are looking for a new pair. Change out the insoles. They are waterproof, which was helpful for some shallow stream crossings on the Lost Coast Trail, but the downside is that there is no ventilation, and my feet were always sweaty. The grip was hit or miss. I found myself slipping on surfaces that I shouldn't be slipping on. I've hiked only in trail runners for years, but wanted to give these a try since I knew the Lost Coast Trail would be tough on my trail runners. I wish I never took these on that trail, and I also will never wear them again.

My first boots

These are my first hiking boots. I had a very helpful staff member help me pick these over a non-waterproof pair. I've worn them in water and my feet were totally dry. Also, they felt broken in already on the first wear so big fan of that. Very comfortable boots that I've also worn just on my daily commute in the rain and I can see myself owning these for a very long time!

Bought these hiking boots for a trip to Iceland

Got a pair of these after seeing positive reviews online. Fit great right out of the box and didn’t seem to require breaking in, but I got them about a month before a big trip to Iceland so they got worn on a few local hikes/walks just to be sure. In Iceland, the hiking boots were comfortable in the airport, driving, walking the trails, rocky beaches, rain or shine. Couldn’t be happier with my purchase.

Big Bend trails.

Good stable hiking footwear. Solid base and good ankle support. Super comfortable with good wool socks. Hiked several moderately challenging trails in and around Big Bend National Park. Everything from desert to rocky to somewhat mountainous terrain. Performed well climbing moderate mountain rocky ascents as well and climbing back down. Trekking on rocky trails was very stable as well. Stayed dry along the banks of the Rio Grand while soaking my headgear for temperature control. This is my second pair.

Our favorite hiking shoes!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My whole family have been big fans of Merrell for several years. I love their running shoes, but we had never tried their hiking boots before. These definitely lived up to our high expectations. First of all, the comfort level is wonderful. These are the most comfortable hiking boots I've ever experienced. They seriously make walking a pleasure. We hike on gravel, pavement, around a lake area and actually live in a woodland forest area with creeks and small waterfalls. The waterproofing works well and is really nice to have in these conditions. The sizing is perfect to wear with thick socks. The mid boot offers just enough ankle support without feeling clunky or restrictive. The thick, textured Vibram soles help with grip and balance. They have a well-made, good-quality feeling to them. I would buy these for the whole family.

Functional and durable

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’m very impressed with the Moab 3 hiking shoes. The quality and material is excellent and the style is great. They are waterproof and I have definitely worn them in very wet areas and have stayed very dry. The grip is awesome and I have hiked steep, wet hills without any sliding. They are very comfortable, I typically have a hard time finding comfortable fitting shoes due to my foot being a little wide. These fit perfect and I wear them hours on end with continued comfort. The ankle support is great and the arch is very supportive. I’m impressed with the these hiking shoes and recommend them to anyone that likes to put miles on outside while staying comfortable and protected.

Wide Widths in SIX Colors...Can't beat that!

I just want to thank Merrell for having wide widths in more than 1 color. Most shoe companies offer wide widths on some models, not all, and when they do offer them it's usually just the basic color scheme. Merrell offers six colors for wide widths for the Moab 3 Mid...and I am truly grateful. I tested these "bad larrys" on a rocky 2 mile trail in Dallas over the weekend and couldn't have been happier with my purchase. I'm going to wear the hell out of these, they are super comfortable and jagged rocks don't poke at the soles of your feet! Thanks again, Merrell :) P.S. The Mrs. loves hers too!

Great Support and Traction

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These MOAB Hiking shoes have a great inside support system from your arch to the ankle support. True to size fit and very comfortable. I love the eyelet type lace holders so the laces stay in place all day long with no loose ends. My feet feel great at the end of the day and with my job I am on my feet for 8-10 hours per day. Wonderful strong cushion that keeps your feet from aching and they stay cool.

Nice boots

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The design of these Merrell Moab boots are very nice. I love the design and everything about them and that these are waterproof. They seem to be very durable. As for the fit I think these run a little small to size so I would get these in half a size up that what you usually wear. Other than that I am loving these boots and can't wait to have more hikes in the summer wearing them.

Canadian Rockies

Bought these for my trip to the mountains. Couldn't ask for better performance. Kept my feet dry while stomping thru creeks, and kayaking. They stuck to the ground as i navigated rocks, cliffs, and forested trails. They were comfortable while i was riding horses, and stylish enough for a night on the town. Couldn't be happier.
