These were my first pair of Hoka running shoes. I am not a runner, but I enjoyed the comfort of walking in these shoes. The shoes are now five months old and used for walking around 2 miles per day. The shoes still look still pretty good. Unfortunately, the liner (left and right shoe) has developed holes, and the shoes have become uncomfortable. I have never ever experienced such low quality. For this kind of money I really expected better durability.
These shoes were very comfortable while they lasted (approximately 300 miles) before they started falling apart. The soles are very worn, the fabric and padding in the heel are completely gone.
First and last pair of Hokas I'll ever buy. This is not a shoe built to last. After barely over 100 miles on them, the soles looked like I'd put 300-400 miles on them (compared to other running shoes I've had). The interior was falling apart too (which I see in other reviews too). For what it's worth, I tried returning them but REI said it was normal wear and tear, not poor workmanship or materials. Mechanically, they have nice cushion and good bounce, but they run narrow for a regular (D) width. I was having pain in my fifth metatarsal as a result.
My 1st pair of Hokas. Worn them for 3 months. An amazing shoe! I’m a life long Nike Structure wearer and I developed severe case of achilles tendinitis on right foot. Dealt with it for a year and tried numerous recommended treatments and different shoes, including latest Structures with more cushioning at achilles area. After hearing so much about Hokas and doing some research, I went to REI to try a pair. The Arahi 6 did the trick with its stability and max cushioning. It’s 5mm heel-to-toe drop (vs Nike Structure at 8mm) and more cushioning at back of foot in achillies area have been the key. I’m back to running and building back my miles. I’m buying my second pair.
These are my second pair. I like the shoes, but the interior of the sneaker wears out by the heel way too fast. I am not at 3 months and the right shoe has a whole in the heel. This happened to both shoes with my last pair.
Comfortable heel hold for about 1 month, then the rear fabric ripped apart exposing the plastic form. The sole also wore out in less than 5 months. Compared to ASICS, which have lasted many, many miles, these Hoka wear out extremely quickly!
I am over 70, but have been a runner, cycler, and fitness person all my adult life. I find the Hoka Men's road-running shoes helpful with both stability and cushioning. As one ages, our joints can't take the pounding and punishment of running as well as in earlier years. These shoes help me maintain distance and pace that I otherwise wouldn't be able to sustain. While they are definitely not cheap shoes, I believe they are good value for the money. I do recommend them.
Very comfy, great fit. Not a runner. More of a walker. Doctor recommended these for plantar fasciitis. Rotated these with Merrell, Keens and Brooks. For me, these were the most comfortable for running errands, taking walks and shopping. After ~ 6 months of rotated wear, the heel 9backside of shoe) on one foot wore down to the plastic and caused a huge blister while out walking the dog. Returned to REI, manager said it was probably due to the fact I used a shoe horn? While in the store, tried both Arahi and Brooks Adreneline and the Arahi won the comfort/support test on my foot. Waiting for next release to come out in April, but will be giving Hoka a second chance.
Yeah, I'm old. To be totally honest, the BEST HOKA shoe for me, by far, has been the Anacapa. Original Version. But, two things happened this year: HOKA "upgraded" to the Anacapa 2 which was not an upgrade at all, and sized differently than the originals, AND REI stopped carrying the Anacapa in the retail stores so you had to guess on the best size. So I switched to these, which are NOT trail shoes like the Anacapa but are good for on-street runs and dog-walks. They are very comfy, with good support, and the sizes run true, at least as far as MY feet are concerned. PS I found an "original" HOKA Anacapa MID GTX in close-out, but not through REI. I bought two pair and they should last me until I croak... :-)
Been wearing the Arahi a few years now. Version 5 a great improvement over v.4. Hoka didn’t make too many changes to the 6 & that’sa good thing. It’s a little softer, but still plenty responsive (more than the Clifton). The tongue is a little different but not really noticeable. Colour ways are nice, wish they all came in wide! A great daily trainer & light enough to pick up the pace on workouts. Thanks Hoka for not messing too much with a good shoe.
