Goldilocks mixed-surface gravel tire

For when slicks are not enough and MTB-ish tires are too much... The Vulpine casts a big Venn-diagram overlap between very-fast slick-ish tires (Maxxis Receptor, Specialized Pathfinder) and knobbier all-rounders like the Maxxis Rambler. Relatively fine-tooth tread works great on denser, smoother track, leafy forest-path debris, most fireroads. Perfectly round profile and consistent tread support across the tire lends these to stellar on-road manners too; they can rail Mt Diablo's descent like a road tire. That super-dense center tread rolls out fast on those long flat miles as well. As with all gravel tires, it's horses for courses. These feel perfect for routes which mix large percentage of pavement with moderately-challenging off-road terrain where a slick or file-tread tire would run out of grip. On the other end of the scale, at 40mm they don't have the width to float through very deep loose sand, dirt or have the open tread knobs necessary to handle rubbly loose rock. So far, I'm super impressed. The Vulpines are a mere few grams heavier than my effectively-slick Maxxis Receptors and have ~85% the offroad grip capability of my wider, heavier Maxxis Ramblers all while flying on the road pretty much like ... road tires. Looking forward to pushing them further.
