Osprey  Atmos AG 65 Pack - Men's

Tried on in the store with pounds and felt great… I even thought it was good on the first day with 50lbs. But coming back down 2000ft of gain on the second day with pounds, I really started to notice the frame digging into my lower back/hips. It may be that the mesh suspension stretched out a bit after carrying some weight. I like to keep my hip belt tight to keep all the weight on my hips, but with only the mesh between my hips and the two spots on the frame, it really kinda bruised me by the end and I knew I would have to return this pack. This is really a design flaw, I think. You can clearly see it in my photo.

I am 6'5" and purchased this pac for a 6 day trip into the Grand Canyon. Because of the weather (cold) we had to pack lots of clothing and the pac came in at 35 lbs. ALL the weight rests comfortably on your hips resulting in a very comfortable treck. The pockets are arranged nicely for storing things with important items easy to get quickly. Definately get the bladder. I purchased the 2.5 but wish I had purchsed 3 litre. This is, without question, the best pack out there and backed by REI it's even better if problems turn up

I really like most of the new changes on this upgraded pack. The side access to the main compartment is a welcome addition as are the lashing points on the brain of the pack (helps to lash my sleeping bag, so that I can carry the bear canister inside the pack without sacrificing space). The materials used a recycled, which is good, but hope they last as long as the regular materials. I haven't had the terrible squeaking so far that the my prior version bag had. This squeaking was pretty common (the bag would let out squeaking sounds with every step - highly annoying when hiking. Check out the many reviews that mention this on the REI site). Time will tell if that squeaking has been addressed by addressing the frame build. My only con is that they have reduced the maximum weight capacity. The prior version in Medium, had a load capacity of 30-50 lbs. This new bag is now 30-40 lbs. This might be enough for those that backpack with little gear, but we like to take lots of food on our 8 day trips to the Yosemite Wilderness and the reduced capacity is giving us pause. Other than that recommend this bag.

Great Pack! Many backpacking and day hike adventures. Broken strap. Broken pole holder. Issue, Osprey online form sent 4 times. To no avail. REI says go through ospret ro fix. Spoken with several staff members. They say resubmit the form. No fixing pack per warrantee. Otherwise a great pack.!

This is a great pack for carrying more than you probably should. A lot of storage and pockets to make this possible. Plenty of adjustability to make it fit appropriately. I like the mesh backs that this and other Osprey products offer. Keeps that disgusting back moisture (sweat) to a minimum. Check out the pictures and I'm assuming there's a video out there, to maximize all the straps and options with this back has. I learned some stuff afterwards. Note: take into account, if you use a hydration system/bag, it'll chew up some of the space in the main compartment. All and all a great pack that's light, comfortable and not short on storage.

Overall not too impressed. The pack is pretty comfortable in the suggested weight range of 30-40 pounds, but for how heavy it is, it should be able to hold more weight. I'd trade this for the Aether or equivalent Gregory. When climbing Mount Rainier, I unintentionally had to help carry more of my groups gear, once over or close to the 40 pound limit, the frame would dig into my back (a huge negative). Why there isn't padding on the lower back portion of pack is beyond me. The mesh backing does ventilate well and the green color looks good, so it has that going for it. If the frame didn't dig into my back and it could handle 50 pounds, I'd keep it.

Thanks to Iris at the Fort Worth, TX store for pointing me towards this great pack and getting the right fit/size. I bought this as the core of my first, from scratch backpacking kit. Very good organization and accessibility to all the compartments. I stuffed a 20-deg backpack in bottom compartment, and loaded it up with food, stove, 2-person tent, rain gear, roll organizer, and 12 liters of water etc. for 3 nights in the Chisos mountains. When starting up the mountain, the pack was very heavy (almost 60 lbs) but has very good, easy adjustments to move some of the load between shoulders and hips. No complaints, and I expect many years out of this. I really liked the breathable mesh back in the afternoon desert sun. Worth the $$. I can't think of a thing I'd change.

I wasn't sure about the fit when I first tried it on but luckily the REI employees were able to help me get everything dialed in. I love that there are just the perfect amount of pockets. I thought the 65 liter was going to be too big but it turned out to be the perfect size since most of the trips required a bear can. The sturdy hip belt really molds to your body and the ample amount of pockets make storing stuff a breeze. I highly recommend checking this backpack out if your looking for your first backpacking backpack!

This backpack rides well and is very comfortable. It has some features I did not think I’d use. There are zippers on both sides of the pack that unzip the full length of the bag to give you access to items in the pack without having to dig down from the top. I did not expect to use these but I’ve found them very useful to get to something down in the pack without having to unload items to access something through the top. There are two side zipped area on the back I’ve not used and don’t know what I might use them for but I guess time will tell. My favorite part is the breathable mesh against my back, really cuts down on heat and sweating.

Not 100% sure if my pack was defective, or if Osprey introduced a major design flaw, but there is a stark lack of padding along the bottom of the frame near the hip belt. Just used this pack for a 4-day backcountry trip, and it completely bruised my lower back. There are essentially two areas where the only thing separating the metal frame from you is two thin layers of mesh.
