Purchased for a cruise to Alaska. We had rain predicted for each day of our trip. The rain jackets worked perfectly, it never rained. The jackets did provide windproof protection for all of our outdoor activities. From Salmon fishing to whale watching and glacier viewing on the top deck.
I love the style and fit. If this jacket had actually been made well, it would have been 5-stars no doubt. But it's not made well. Tucked in a bag it wrinkles horribly, but that happens. When it gets rained on, it stays wet, soaks through, and makes you feel like a shriveled mess. It can handle light rain (sprinkles), and that's about it. The worst sin though, is the liner, which began flaking off near the armpits and eventually started coming out in large chunks, rendering the jacket useless. I was not an active wearer of this jacket either. I wore it for vacations and the occasional trip to dinner on a rainy Florida day. I wish I could return it, but it's too late (I didn't wear it enough to notice sooner).
It's a nice jacket for travel or hiking. It will do great job covering your from the wind or light rain, is pretty light to carry in the backpack. However, it comes short if it's raining heavy or for extended period of time. Got rained out in the city traveling, and spent maybe 15-20 minutes walking in the rain, the inside of jacked was wet as the water soaked up thru the material. Wife had REI light weight jacket, and that held much better. I'm a bit disappointed with the water resistant part. If you want carry around jacked in case of light rain, it's perfect, for hard rains, i would look for another jacket to bring along.
Great all around rain jacket and wind proof jacket, multiple zippers and cell phone pocket on the chest, with rain coating on the zippers. under the arm pits zippers for letting out the heat of the body, this also has a hood with tightening straps and a nice neck/chin partition when fully zipped up to cover the neck/torso from the elements. there's hook pile tape or velcro on the wrists to tighten and keep the heat or rain from getting against the body.
I was disappointed to find that my The North Face jacket started shredding threads after only two months of infrequent use. It seems that TNF has prioritized profits over quality, which is a shame given the high standards I’ve come to expect from the brand.
All I ask is that my rain shells have side ventilation. This does and I've been very happy with its performance in daylong drizzle and pouring rain on NH and Maine trails. Well done, North Face.
Not what I expected papers thin rain jacket .Very disappointing.
This is not waterproof. I wore it twice. First rain was light second was steady and I was soaked through in 10 minutes
Good quality for price point, love the features
I’ve had this jacket for a year and a half. I loved it, the color, the fit, the performance at first. But it’s not holding up… the letters have come off the sleeve and now I’ve noticed the inside lining is breaking down for no reason. I can just break pieces of it off. I wish I could upload a picture of it. It’s peeling apart.
