Stretchy and Comfortable
Though many board short companies are making pieces with stretchy material, I am recommending these because the cut of these is very comfortable. As a 6'2" person, the 21" outseam is enough to cover my blanched white thighs from the sun. Though I have never run a marathon with these, the pattern cut is also such that I don't feel much chafing (in all areas). Besides supporting Patagonia, a company who puts all its profits towards non-profit orgs that care for the earth, when you're done wearing it - you can get money for passing it on to someone else (through Patagonia's trade-in program).
Great board shorts.
I love these board shorts. They're great in hot weather and dry quickly when wet. The 21" outseam falls just above the knee on me, which I like. The fabric has a little stretch to it. I use them for swimming, body boarding, running and casual wear. These shorts have one pocket on the right hip secured with velcro. For casual wear an additional pocket have been nice but not a dealbreaker for me. I got the tidewater-blue color and like it.
Nothing special
Nothing special, prefer side pocket, and didn't fit quite right. I found the O'Neil Superfreak fit better, and they had a piece of material separating the hard Velcro fly from your junk (the way it should be!). I don't recall if the Hydropeak Board Shorts had that feature, don't think so.
Nice fit and style
My second pair Patagonia swim trunks. Really like the fit and style. Only thing I would change is to have the side pocket with zipper like my other pair opposed to this pair with back pocket with velcro flap. 5'10 165lbs size 32 waist fits good.
not as good as the old board shorts
a little too fragile, the waist is a little bigger than others of the same size. The back pocket is deep and hard to get things out. I would rather see the side pocket

comfortable and durable minimalism
My new favorite board shorts. All you need and nothing more. I think the key feature is the lightweight, quick drying and slightly stretchy material, these in 21" still roll-up into a handful for packing but stand up to long days in and on the water. Minimalist but typical Patagonia quality.
Slick!!
Got the green color. Very unique color. The shorts have the right amount of stretch. The length is great for us longer legged folks, but don't look baggy or ghetto. I wish they would've put a leg pocket to make them more functional in between sessions but that's not a deal breaker. Stoked
No liner
These show up in search results for swim trunks. However, they don’t have a liner. I am used to swim trunks having a liner. Also no elastic so fit loose.
Shorts good
Sweet shorts. No qualms. Like the sealed fly flap and bit of adjustability in waist using string closure. Dry super fast.
