I am 65, stand 5-10.5” at 189 lbs and in decent shape for my age. Previous Rab jackets were returned a couple years ago, due to poor armpit fit. I thought I would give Rab another try this year as I always liked the style. I does appear Rab has indeed slightly altered their upper arm cut. The L jacket is a snug fit for my 44.5” chest, but I actually preferred the cut to the looser fitting XL which I also ordered. Both jackets would have worked. It just depends on undergarment layering you plan on using, your activities and if a snug or loose fit is preferred. If you have a belly stay away from the L and go with the XL. The jacket is a worthy competitor for this price range. The athletic cut is good looking. It readily fits under my Arcterx and Simms shells & Northface wind/rain jacket. The chest pocket is handy. I love the yellow interior contrast with Beluga exterior. The collar height is just right and hand pockets functional. A two way zipper, interior pocket and built in stuff pocket would have it at 5 stars. It has good heat retention for my winter biking, fishing, hiking and every day use here in northern Utah. With a shell, I feel bomb proof to inclement weather. Finally, Thank you REI for your easy return policy.
This jacket is deceptively warm, however it is not stuffy, nor does it feel restrictive or heavy as it is extremely light. It’s one minor flaw: The water resistance could be better. I was caught in a light rain and within five minutes there was already water making it’s way through. A water repellency spray treatment largely rectified this problem.
Nice jacket but the zipper pull is on the wrong side. Every jacket I have ever owned the pull is on the right......This is on the left and feels awkward to get started. Not sure if I'll keep it.
