Great rope. Got lots of compliments.
Great rope. Color is awesome. Use it mainly for trad multipitch. Doesn’t have lots of rope stretch but overall a good rope. The sheath did get a little fuzzy in some parts after a few trips in joshua tree.
Mid Mark Off by ~ 2 m
Sort of disappointed to find the "middle" mark was off by about two meters (6-ish ft.). Having a wrong middle mark can lead to a climber running out of rope and falling while trying to rappel - I'll have to re-mark a NEW rope I just shelled out hundreds of dollars for, and warn climbing partners that the original mid mark is false. It had better at least be durable, or some kind of magic otherwise this will be the last time I buy Sterling - too many good competitors that deliver as expected. If you purchase one of Sterling's ropes don't trust the mid mark until you check it yourself.
Excellent right off the factory loop
Rope is perfectly supple+stiff right off the factory loop and has maintained the perfect stiffness through the season. Have used this rope for more than a season now (rock and ice), it has held up beating without much fray or becoming too noodle like.. the waterproof-ness has held wet-ice climbing days just fine and would recommend! Middle marker could be a bit more distinctive
Really nice rope - worth getting for the right $!
Really nice dry rope that runs very smoothly through my gear! Dry ropes can be more durable and I have heard from other climbers that they are a bit more dirt-resistant and also run nicely through gear. However, I've also heard that this is more of a 'luxury' that can be quite pricey and is far from essential. I decided to pick up this rope with my REI member dividend and so I don't regret getting it at all. I probably would not pay full price for this rope otherwise though. Good buy for the right price!
Solid Rope
Taken on one trip so far so long term durability hasn't been assessed. Other than being slippery on the first three climbs used the whole trip and have no issues so far
Solid rope
So far so good, love the feel and look of this rope.
good rope, works well
i use this rope for sport climbing in the southeast where its almost always running over sharp edges. sheath is slightly fuzzy after a couple months of hard use but completely fine. this rope is also pretty stretchy compared to other ropes like mammut or edelrid so its almost always a soft catch. overall rope feels great, feeds smooth, easy to untie. solid purchase with no regrets.
Bad quality Control for the price point
Had this rope for around 6-7months and took it outdoor a handful of times nothing red point or big whips. Felt great at first but noticed over very light to moderate use indoors it began to feel not solid. Felt as though the sheathing and core were not keeping shape. When on tension it would almost feel lumpy/mishapen. It didn't feel that the core was shot but it didn't inspire confidence in the slightest. I got some second opinions from other friends who've also owned this rope and have been told of its lack of quality control with the sheathing and how inconsistent it is. The rope did not feel solid to the touch and was inconsistent in rope feel throughout the rope. I am by no means a hard climber or anything but for this price point I would expect the quality to be higher and more consistent. After using friends ropes and finding the feel and quality to be much nicer I will no longer be moving forward with sterling products. I wish it was just a bad rope that slipped through the cracks and I adored the color and find myself extremely depressed I couldn't keep it. But when it comes to ropes, safety and mental clarity is paramount and I find myself wanting.
Lacking in quality/durability
My climbing partner and I both bought this rope 2 months ago. Mine has been climbed on at the gym once or twice per week. His has been climbed on less due to injury. My sheath is already fraying, and I have soft spots. His sheath has completely worn through to the core. I have never seen a rope deteriorate like this.
