High Quality Tuning Stands
Solid stands that provide a sturdy base for tuning/waxing my snowboard. The rubberized top surface prevents slipping and the slots securely hold my snowboard in place while exposing edges. The stands are lightweight and stack-able for portability and storage. I did knock off star because they are a little too short which means my bindings rest on the ground until pressure is applied (see photos). This didn't cause much of an issue but it would be better if the stands were 1-2 inches taller. Other than that minor characteristic, these are nice quality stands that served their purpose well and should last a while.
Great tuning stand for skis, but snowboards...
I received these products for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. The tuning stands are really solid when waxing and scraping both Nordic and Backcountry skis. You can stand the skis on the side to sharpen edges (photo), and it's pretty stable (not as stable as clamped with vise), but the ski moves around a bit in the grooves. Highly recommend for skis since they stow away easily and don't take up nearly as much room as a tuning table, and the rubber is super grippy, so they are surprisingly stable for what they are. They also pack easily for travel. My only quarrel is that they are kind of short, so it makes getting a snowboard waxed somewhat challenging. The bindings hit the surface the stands are on. So, I do wish they were taller (photo). The snowboard is very stable on it's edge when you sharpen, though. Overall really good product, but I do wish it was taller to accommodate a snowboard better. Stows away for travel easily. Very grippy. I recommend this product.
Handy for tuning and waxing.
Little thing works great. Works best if you have a bench to put them on for waxing/tuning so you get the leverage to scrape. Appreciate the super stick top and bottom feet so the board sticks to it and it doesn’t slip while waxing
bulky but tacky and sturdy
This is only the second year I have waxed my own skis, but with a family of 5 I learned how last year and save a bunch of cash. The stands are sturdy and grippy, could be great for racers tuning often
Easy to use, stable, and stacks for storage
TLDR: These tuning stands are stable and easy to store. You can tune both skis and snowboards, but I wish they were a little taller for snowboards. Full Review: These tuning stands are easy to use and very stable. I tuned my snowboard, including scraping the wax, without anything moving. There's non-skid rubber on the bottom of the feet and on the top. The stands are ideally designed for skis, but I did use them to tune my snowboard. You just have to play around with the bindings so they clear the ground and the snowboard will lay flat on the top of the two stands. I do wish the stands were a little taller so this wouldn't be an issue. There are slits on the top so you can stand your skis or snowboard on its side to sharpen the edges. Overall these stands are really well designed with the stable shape, slits for sharpening, and the fact they stack for storage. Since there's space underneath, I've been storing it upside down so I can put my bag of tuning supplies inside. I always hesitated buying these type of tuning stands because of the space they'd take, but this makes it pretty efficient. This is also great alternative to ski tuning vises because I don't have a table that would work with vises.
Simple yet very stable design. Great mobile kit.
I received these products for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. And this is my honest review of Happy Norwegian “Mr. Grippy” tuning stand. Initially I was skeptical about not having any components clamped down to anywhere for ski tuning, but oh boy was I wrong. It’s very stable and sturdy. I’ve never heard of this “Happy Norwegian” brand before, but apparently it’s a Norwegian company based in Oslo, Norway. This product itself is made in China (it was printed on the paper wrap that held the two pieces together). It’s a free standing design with nothing holding the skis, solely relying on its grippy-ness of Mr. Grippy. It comes as a pair (2 stands) My actual measurement of the product is 13”L x 10”W x 5.75”H. It weighs 2.84 lbs/pr. The center slot is 8.5mm or 0.33” wide. The stand is made of some sort of high density plastic composite with super grippy rubber on the surface and the bottom of its feet. They seem to be molded together for the long term durability. I’ve tested Mr. Grippy for waxing and edge tuning some of my ski quivers. For working on the ski base (cleaning, waxing, scraping, and roto-brushing), I found it best to spread the stands as far apart nearing the tip and tail of the ski. If you do so, it’s surprisingly stable. It really didn’t move at all, or flip the skis at the ends. The height of Mr. Grippy was adequate to clear the tallest of standard alpine bindings with the heel-lock released position. For working on the metal edge tuning the skis went into the middle slot easily and again it was very stable. Neither the skis or the stands moved or wobbled while running my edge tuner. I can even stand of the each stand with all my weight without any problem (*not intended use). I used Mr. Grippy directly on my garage floor and driveway to mimic not having my workbench, and it performed pretty well except my back wasn’t liking hunching over. I also placed it on my workbench for edge tuning and it performed really well with the appropriate height. I’m very impressed with how well it worked. Pros: Mr. Grippy is indeed very grippy. Very simple yet stable design. Quality made. The rubber and the plastic are molded together. Relatively lightweight. It works on pretty much any skis. The two stands stack nicely for carrying or for storage. Cons: *It may not work for some snowboards due to the binding height. It may not work as well for some 3D cap skis (like my Madshus XC skis). The tuning still won’t be as precise work as clamping style vise. Who is this for? For someone who’s on the road. For someone who doesn’t have an adequate shop space or a work bench. For someone who’s looking for an alternative to a vise. For someone who loves the simplicity. Great gift for any enthusiast. Conclusion I’m happy to say that Happy Norwegian Mr. Grippy performed better than I expected for any skis. It pretty much did everything I need to do with any tuning stand. I certainly will not replace the vice on my designated saw horse, but I think it will shine when the space is limited or on a ski trip where there’s no good place to clamp down the conventional metal tuning clamps. *Note I did not test any snowboards on Mr. Grippy. Happy Norwegian website states, “Ski tuning stand for all types of skis,” (Alpine and Cross-country) and does not mention any use for “snowboards,” although Mountainflow Eco-wax website (US distributor?) claims, “works great for all types of skis + snowboards!” I cannot confirm if it work for snowboards as their bindings may be taller and won’t clear the height. Also I cannot confirm how stable it is for snowboards edge tuning with the increased leverage.
These stands are the best
Benefits: - lightweight if you want to transport easily - very strong, enough for 200 pound person to stand on them - holds ski vertically for edge tuning - easily grips ski horizontally for waxing or base care - stackable for storage Cons: - rubber feet could be bigger to prevent slippage on plastic table or work bench
Portable Tuning Stand Set
I wanted to love these, but they fell a little short. They are great as a portable option, but I was hoping they would be good for all around. I liked how light and easy they are, as it makes it easy to transport. The surface is also solid. It does a good job of keeping the skis (in my case) secure while waxing. I’m sure snowboards would be just as an effective. I’m sure the grippy surface will wear over time but out of the box, it’s pretty strong. The biggest issue I had with these, the slits for tuning the edges of my skis. I had a hard time getting them into the slits on their edges. Once in, they weren’t solidly held in place. They need to be a little wider to allow for wider skis. My other pair of skis wouldn’t fit due to being larger. If you are looking for something portable and easy, this will be a good option. Just consider if your skis or board will fit into the groove. It’s probably not going to be your go to for every day, unless all of your skis or boards are slimmer. On the plus side, I’m tuning my skis more often now that I don’t have to struggle as much.
Awesome quality, great option for waxing on the go
I tried these tuning stands on XC skis, snowboard, and a splitboard. It's a nice quality item for sure. It surprising holds the gear really securely. However, it doesn't fit exactly for splitboards.
Ski wax and sharpening
Works well. Holds skis firmly when working edges and is great for applying waxes.
