My Crazy Creek original chair fell apart after light use limited to inside of my tent. I estimate that I got about 7 weekend trips out of it before this happened. The stitching and denier at the connection point where the strap is sewn to each half of the seat just fell apart. I am the original owner, contacted Crazy Creek with a warranty claim two weeks ago and have not received a response.
Crazy Creek creates one comfy camp chair. Both the seat and the back are well-cushioned. And the (adjustable) side straps are strong: I could lean back as much as I liked. It's not the kind of chair with legs, which means you use it either right on the ground (fine by me) or atop something (log, rock, etc.) suitably sized and stable. And you don't have to learn how to set it up or balance on it. I particularly like how you can transform a big rock into a great place to sit (see pic). I even spent a half-hour or so doing a watercolor that way. I thought the foam cushion in the back was removable: there's a zipper to open its sleeve. But it looks like the foam is glued or sewn in. Thus it could be a pain to get it out - and to put it back in. The chair folds up to roughly 15-by-16 inches; strong velcro straps can squeeze it closed to about 2 inches thick. As such, you need to carry it either by its handle (certainly light enough) or by attaching it to the outside of your pack. I was able to do so on my daypacks with a carabiner; it didn't sway and wobble as much as I feared. So far, I've happily brought it on day hikes, and I can see it being real nice for car camping. But its dimensions, the need to attach it to the outside and its weight (about 20 ounces) means I'm unlikely to take it backpacking. In between hikes, I might keep it in the car, to be assured of a comfortable seat wherever I may be.
Lasted 6 hours on a float trip. They designed it to have the backrest held by stitching??!! Needs a strap along back to hold the weight of backrest, not 5 stitches. Had to McGyver it to keep using it for the next 10 days and 100 miles on raft.
I bought this product as a chair for my packraft and have not been disappointed. I was constantly sinking back in my packraft with my badly designed blow up seat, but I got this crazy creek chair and put it on top and no longer am sinking! This chair has also come in handy for my boyfriend and kid when they come and watch me play hockey. Keeps their butts off the hard metal stadium stands and gives them much needed back support. These chairs are also amazing for camping and backpacking. Can't recommend these enough!
Crazy Creek chairs take me back to my days as a camp counselor. I’ve been using them ever since as a backpacking guide. They are easy and simple. This summer I used this Crazy Creek car camping, backpacking, and even sleeping. This chair hold up. The straightforward and sturdy design is reliable in all sorts of different scenarios and terrains. It’s well padded and made with sturdy materials. Companies that have stayed true to their quality and brand seem tough to find these days. Crazy Creek hasn’t changed since I was a teenager, it's still a comfortable, easy to use chair that stands the test of time.
I've had my first Crazy Creek since 1994, was looking to get more for the summer and saw they are back at REI! Yeah, old school brands are the best, glad to see Crazy Creek back in REI! These work everywhere, sit on ANYTHING...we've recently discovered how well they work on top of our cooler when car camping, take up no space and allow all of us an easy way to get comfortable and Just Sit There!
Love the design of this chair as it's customizable via the straps. Which are very sturdy themselves. The padding isn't that thick, but the comfort of being able to feel almost "zero gravity" after a long day is wonderful. However, if you are looking to keep your pack light for backpacking this is not for that. It's not lightweight at all and the pads themselves are quite large. A quick out and back hike or a day car camping are where you'll find it most useful.
I found this item was not padded enough and was too high in the back for my purposes. I used my old Crazy Creek chair for padding and back support in my kayak. The back on the new one was too high for me and hit me uncomfortably on my shoulder blades so I returned it. I am 5'5. My old one was great and lasted many years before the support rods on the sides finally broke through and poked out. In general this is a great product and would be good for other uses.
This is the perfect choice for music festivals with “chair” restrictions. Lots of chairs look similar but this one is well designed and surprisingly comfortable. Light weight and opens fast and easy. The rigid back made it easier to hold open while attempting to sit. (The ground has been very low this year). The internal frame allowed me to lean back in comfort for 4 days at Bonnaroo 23!
Disappointing. I wanted an easy to carry chair with a back for outdoor concerts and picnics. This chair, while it is light, is not easy to carry; it needs a longer strap to carry it either as a backpack or cross chest and it is NOT at all comfortable. It was better than nothing, but disappointing and expensive.
