Great Mtn biking adventure hiking shoe... why pack hiking shows when these will do for moderate length and scrambling at high altitudes. The goretex is a foot saver in river crossings and ripping through larger puddles on your bike.
Reviews on sites I trust said these were great / near perfect and they are not. Ankle cuff is pretty awkward in person, especially putting on/taking off. Very defining “feature” of the shoe - so unless you really want it to seal yourself in (with rain pants) think hard if you really need/want it. Sole is stiff and they’re reasonably light, but two (non-cuff related) issues I had were: (1) a lot of “head space” above my foot and (2) laces. I know a lot of cycling flat shoes have laces but its a dumb idea. Flat pedals have pins/spikes. Bikes have chainrings. Neither plays well with looped laces… so make sure you tuck them in!
I've really enjoyed this series of shoes. The stiff rubber has saved my feet dozens of times from being crushed or toes being stubbed. My only complaint is how hot they are in the summer and that they aren't waterproof. Any time I bike through a small stream not even 6 inches deep, my toes are soaked.
Toe box is narrow! Would have loved it like the other 5/10 products, they did hold the pedal. Maybe one size larger might have helped, but for some reason REI only carries up to 13 even though they came in sizes up to 15. Most brands they carry larger sizes but not these. Also, they are not a very warm shoe for a pair of waterproof shoes, so you going to need to wear thicker socks if it is cold.
Accurate size, only tried them in 40 degree weather so far with very thin socks (purposely) and my feet stayed nice and toasty... they were pretty much the warmest thing on me that day. If we get some cooler weather in the desert Southwest will trial them and update at a later point. Thus far I am rather pleased. Especially in a world where cold weather flats seem to be quite hard to find.
Bought these so I could handle creek crossings in semi cold weather and not end up with frozen feet. They definitely work. My complaint is the sole feels weak and not great for biking. One could just buy a pair of neoprene socks and put them in your favorite mtb shoes instead of spending money on these. And they are not warm enough for winter riding without adding a covering.
I really, really dont like these. They feel like wearing cardboard boxes, the material just doesnt bend to the will of your feet at all. Not sure what Adidas did to these, the previous versions were amazing when FiveTen did their own ting.
Mostly use for commuting, so far they have been great in snow and heavy rain. The only issue really is they take a little extra time to put on, but worth it poor conditions. I imagine they are great in mud but haven’t fully tested yet.
Great boot. I've used for every day cycling in the rain, gravel biking in the mountains and also general hiking. They do good in the mud and snow. I would highly recommend for any bike trip. They're comfortable and dry.
Great having dry feet after working 10 hours in a rainy bike park. Would suggest sizing down a half size as they are quite roomy even with a pair of padded hiking socks.
