Good jacket, but could have been great
This is a really nice rain jacket, but, unless you are going to go out in a monsoon, it might be a bit overkill. I only say that because it's pretty stiff and, because of that, not all that comfortable. I have a few other Mountain Hardwear rain jackets that are way more flexible and keep me dry when it's raining. In my opinion, this jacket should have insulation and then it would be ready for extreme weather conditions. As is, it's just a really over done light weight Spring and Fall jacket. Note, I typically wear a medium, but, due to the stiffness of this jacket, I had to size up to a large.
Slim design
I'm 5'9", 165 lbs., med. build, and had to get the Large because the Medium was too snug around the mid-section. The jacket has a slim cut, so if you like bulky, loose fit this may not be the jacket for you. Nice construction, lots of pockets, very waterproof, but I'm a little concerned that the main zipper, which is small and fine-toothed may not hold up, and it's a little harder to get started than a more robust one, especially when it's cold and icy. That being said, I'll trust that the seller stands by the product if it fails. I'm not a fan of huge (non-detachable) hoods on ski jackets, but since they all seem to be made that way these days, I won't down-grade this one because of it.
Solid jacket - a good deal
This jacket is light and packable with just the right amount of pockets and comes at a reasonable price. I just did my first day in it so I can’t speak to the durability, but it seems well built. It was a little tight in the shoulders when I first put it on but by mid day it gave a bit and feels perfect. I was in conditions that would have soaked my last jacket and it stayed bone dry. It keeps the rain and wind out and the warmth in but has no insulation. you can layer to your liking. For a high 20s snowboard day in snow I just wore a 150 weight merino wool base layer and it was perfect.
Great quality
Purchased this jacket after my previous zipper and some seams came undone on my previous MH jacket. This is a significant upgrade in terms of quality material, and I am excited about using it this coming winter. It is very light, but based on other reviews will allow me to layer and stay warm. I ordered an XL and I am normally a L but fit seems appropriate for an XL
Great shell for the freeride type
Best shell out there. Excellent value for 3L goretex. Fit is freeride style, longer than a normal alpine shell. Pockets are perfectly placed and work well with a pack. Material feels bomber. Brown color is sick, just enough pop but you don’t look like a skitle. Hood adjust perfectly, has a powder skirt if your into that. 2 mesh pockets inside for googles or gloves.
Better hood adjustment would be nice.
Really like the quality of this jacket. So far happy with the waterproofness and breathability. My only complaint is the hood and collar. The hood slips down over my eyes (without a helmet on) and the drawstring only cinches the sides in. A adjustment to cinch the hood back would be nice. The collar is kind of tight around my neck, especially if the hood is down.
Excellent Backcountry Skiing Jacket
I have been backcountry skiing since 2015, and I backcountry ski about 50 days a year. This jacket is perfectly designed for great functionallity on both the uphill and the downhill. The jacket is lightweight with little to no insulation. The double zipper and underarm vents allow me to stay cool and keep air flowing underneathe the jacket while I'm skiing up the mountain. On the downhill closing the vents, and sinching the powderskirt keep this jacket warm and dry underneathe. The 3L Gore-Tex is rugid and durable... I skied through some tight trees and had to charge through some thick, dry pine tree branches the first day I wore this jacket in the backcountry. After hitting the branches I checked the jacket for rips/tears/damage, there was no marks, scrapes, scratches on the jacket... no evidence at all that I ran through some thick branches. This is easily the best backcountry skiing jacket I have owned, technically sound, and bomb-proof!!!
Great Jacket. Medium fit was perfect for 6'2 180lb
Jacket is great. I'm 6'2, 180lbs and I purchased a medium. The fit for me is spot on. I've owned Mountain Hard Wear jackets in the past but not a true gore-tex one. The water proof is what I needed for deep powder days along with sloppy wet snow days. Jacket has a lot of pockets which is good. Also like the hood over the helmet fit.
Does the job but room for improvement
Good GoreTex snow shell. Definitely keeps me dry and the wind out. It’s sized on the larger side. I’m 6’ and 190lbs with and athletic build and in between a medium and large. A medium fit with layers but the waist felt like I was going to break the bottom of the zipper ever time I sat down on a lift chair. The large fixed that but is obviously a looser fit. Also, I had to exchange my jacket because the clip on the back of the powder skirt ripped a few holes through the back of my jacket. There are 3 parallel ridges on the back of the clip and those same 3 lines are what the rips looked like. I dremeled off those ridges on my replacement jacket. A couple other improvements would be nice. The bottom of the front zipper keeps opening slightly. I wish there was a way to secure it down such as a snap at the bottom. Also, the internal mesh pockets could be a little larger. They barely fit my goggles. Lastly, an internal zippered pocket would be nice.
runs small
Size runs small. XL Jacket did not fit. Former XL Mountain hard wear Jacket that I have had for 15 years finally wearing out. New ones are much stiffer and have fewer pockets for a Ski Jacket shell. Jacket very stiff and Durable, almost feels like a rubber rain jacket from the days before Gore-Tex.
