This jacket is so flexible and warm. I live in Chicago, and during the winter (sub freezing) I can wear a sweater and this jacket and stay warm without any other layers. Buying this for my family members. My cat h8s it though.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] First the bad. This, like most mountain hardwear these days, fits large and poorly. It's tight around the armpits and shoulders but quite a lot of room in the belly. Arms are plenty long even in the medium. (I am 6'1" 165#) The stiffness of the fabric exacerbates the poor fit but the stretch helps! I wish mtn headwear would go back to a more athletic fit. I often take a large, but went with the medium. It's a little tight in the armpits, plenty of room in the pot belly area. !! But narrow at the waist. The large was too fat. The good is, it's nice and warm. The thicker stretch fabric makes it a little warmer than a down jacket with the same down but very light nylon. Looks like it will be durable too.
great lightweight jacket. purchased as a mid layer to use with a shell. works well as a stand alone jacket too. would buy again. feels slightly heavier than other "thermo or nano" jackets but still super light. others have mentioned the zipper - has been finicky but works fine and allows for opening while seated. sleeve length is good. 6'1" athletic build with slight beer belly. normally wear XL but returned XL jacket because was too roomy to be used as mid layer and L is perfect. A little snug with heavy base layer (hoodie) but great fit otherwise.
Great jacket. its light and warm and the stretch is certainly something that was lacking from other puffy jackets. The colour is very nice and bright, i think its pretty true to the pics on the site. only issues that I see are sleeves being a bit loose and the double zipper being trickey at times but i really like the double zipper feature. The out side is soft and i have not tried it in the rain but i may decide to do a water treatment on it just incase and also to help with staining that others have brought up.
The Stretchdown jacket from last season is one of my all-time favorite jackets. It works for everything. It fits great, it has a perfect pocket arrangement, the zippers are color matched, the arms are gusseted, the fabric is stretchy but not shiny, etc. This new version takes one step forward and a couple back. MH made big improvements in the construction quality, adding bar-tacks and finished seams everywhere, plus beefier zippers. It's especially noticeable on the interior drop pocket. The old version feels cheap in comparison. What I dislike are the raglan sleeves and the overall fit. The new arms are not gusseted and the rounded shoulders look terrible. Raglan sleeves on a puffy coat make you look like a gorilla. The fit was also changed so that the body and upper arms are way bigger than the old version. This might benefit some people, but it's not for me at 5'10" and 175lb.
I was a little hesitant about purchasing this as it seems so many companies use their name to sell their products instead of making good products. I am extremely happy with this product. I wanted this to use on my bikepacking adventures, so i wanted a lighter jacket that would pack away small yet still relatively warm. My last big name jacket was a total fail, poor quality and not very warm at all. This jacket is amazing, the fit, style, quality are the best i’ve seen. The best thing about this jacket is how incredibly warm it is. Soon after getting it we had some single digit and below zero temps and this kept the cold out. This will awesome when riding over high mountain passes and an extra layer to stay warm while sleeping if needed. I cannot express how happy i am with this purchase, I am sold on Mountain Hardware products and look forward to having more in my closet.
Quickly became my new goto jacket. Down is comfortable in a variety of temperatures, I've worn this jacket in temperatures ranging from 20-60 degrees (-7 to 16 Celsius) and felt great. High quality outer shell is water/wind resistant and stretch for various activities. IMHO the baffles for the down look distinctive, but not too crazy for a nice overall look while being very functional. Fit true to size.
It's a really nice jacket and it is stretchy but the down inside is just flying everywhere. I don't know if its the design of the lines or the pattern but the down seems to just come out especially when I'm driving or if I sit anywhere. I hope it maintains its warmth but I'm not entirely sure if it will. Its a really stylish jacket too and I would hate for it to lose functionality.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The jacket itself is great but the sizing is not right, I wear a large in almost all brands. If you have any kind of muscle tone in your arms/shoulders, the armpits will be super tight. The body itself was almost to large and the length of the arms. If they figure out the sizing issue, then it will be a good jacket, but I'm returning it because the arms are uncomfortable.
Great fit, style, form and function. QC a tad lacking though. Came with a color blemish on the right sleeve. I have neither the time nor energy to deal with sending it back for a replacement though as it’s still cold and I wear it everyday and don’t want to be without it. Is what it is I guess. Just a shame. It shouldn’t have left the factory and made it to me like this.
