This is easily one of the best all-in-one base layers for snow sports or a main layer for mild to cool weather hiking (spring/fall seasons). Fit (Men's Medium): Excellent (Male, 5'9", 165lb, 41" Chest, 31" Waist, Climber's Build) Pros: + Very fine microfleece lining (very soft to the skin) + Excellent fit (very trim and close-to-skin, but not skintight) + Complete solution with integrated hood and balaclava + Aesthetic design and good placement of logo and front chest pocket Cons: - Too many seams (and really tough/scratchy ones at that), which completely offsets the comfort of the microfleece lining. - No thumb loops or cuff transition
Fits true to size. The quality of the product feels nice on your skin and keeps you warm! I used it as my base layer for a 9km round trip hike in the snow at -6C and never felt cold one bit. My only critique would be is, when you just want to use the balaclava option, it doesn’t sit tight against your face enough. It kept dropping down just under my nose. Even putting on the hood and balaclava together, it would still droop down. Not a deal breaker by any means. I would highly recommend if you’re looking for a good base layer!
I got the rho lt hoody with the intention to use it for fall/winter running. First run with it I was very impressed as it kept me warm with a shirt underneath it when the weather felt like +2. It’s meant to be a base layer, which is why it’s slim fit, but still looks good if you like wearing a slim outside layer. It hugs my arms a bit, but the body is comfortable. The balaclava is a great feature and is nice a snug, which would work best for those who are getting it to use in the mountains. 5’7 165lbs and got a medium. I’d say size up if you want more of a regular fit, but get your regular size for a good slim base layer fit!
This hoodie is chef’s kiss. It's soft on the skin, packs down to almost nothing, and keeps you just the right amount of warm – cozy but not a walking sauna. Perfect for those sunny days when the breeze sneaks up on you. I took it on my recent trip to South America, and it fit right in with my lightweight gear. Whether I was exploring high-altitude trails or kicking back in town, this hoodie was a perfect travel buddy. The best part? After two washes, it still looks brand new – no shrinking, fading, or weird stretch. Arc’teryx really nailed it with this one. If you need a versatile base layer that won’t weigh you down (but will keep you comfy), this is the one!
Ladies, get this hoody! I previously had purchased the women's version of the Rho hoody, but man oh man did the men's Rho fit SO MUCH BETTER. Also, better color. I'm 5'10" with a 6'1" wingspan, making finding anything with long enough sleeves difficult. However, this men's version is built for longer wingspans, so it was absolute perfection when trying on. For reference, I purchased the W M and the M S; both fit well, but the men's is just that much better. Also, built in balaclava? Need I say more?
One of my favorite new layers for the fall and winter. Trim fit hugs the body in the right places so you can truly use this as a base layer. The brushed internal material is soft against the skin. Breathes well and doesn't absorb and hold stink. You can wear this as a base layer on cold mountain hikes, has enough stretch to move with you on fall climbs, or is a comfortable outer layer for cool fall day hikes. As an outer layer, the material holds warmth surprisingly well in the wind for how breathable it is. I am a big fan of the hood and integrated balaclava. On blustery hikes, pulling up the balaclava cut the wind and seemed to warm my whole body. Chest pocket fits an iphone 12 mini with a little room to spare. Typical high quality Arc'teryx zipper. I'm 5'8", 145lbs, and a size small fit me perfectly. My new favorite layer to wear on cool fall day hikes, can't wait to get it out snowshoeing and cross country skiing this winter.
I have been wearing this in 35-50°F as a single layer for walks and short runs. It works and fits great, looks nice, and feels just right for chilly (non wet) weather. It's not windproof but insulates well, and the neck tube really adds to the warmth overall. the neck tube has separate pieces for a face and head cover which would work under a helmet, and is nice for pre/post run warmth. I generally heat up pretty quickly, and this was slightly cold walking in the mid 30s, but was perfect for a run. Looking forward to using it when backpacking. The only thing more I might want is a small zippered key pocket and/or thumb loops. I have an average (not skinny) build and was in between the small and medium sizes (39“ chest, 32" waist) - medium wouldn't have worked as a base layer, but is still pretty trim and fitted. After trying both, I ultimately went with the small to have the option of layering later on. If you've got a larger build and are between sizes, I'd go up.
Super functional winter layer. The hood/gaiter works great and fits right. The material is also warm. Highly recommend so far
Very comfortable, well designed and constructed. Full ninja hood comes in clutch with a bitter head wind. I am 6’2” 195 lbs and the large fits perfectly. I’d absolutely recommend it to a friend.
Quickly becoming one of my favorite pieces of gear. Extremely comfortable, warm, and versatile. Material is high quality and quick-drying. Goes great under a puffy.
