I recently renewed my Osprey

I recently renewed my Osprey pack with a new Talon 33 model. It is a very comfortable lightweight pack with several improved features, including the side pockets and improved waist strap pockets. The attachment points for poles and ice axes etc have been improved. Overall the pack is great for single or multi day hikes. One small feature has been discontinued, - the small extra pocket with a velcrose fastening that was in the top external zipped pocket. This I found useful for storing a passport or document for easy access when travelling. I would have preferred this to be retained on the new model. Overall a great well designed pack for summer and winter use

Best backpack ever

This is not the first backpack I have owned. I kept giving them away until I found this Osprey Talon. I bought this pack years ago and still love it. I'm a 5'3 female and this pack fits me better than any other. I can carry everything I need for day trips or for longer journeys. I also use it as a "suitcase" when travelling by automobile and get a kick out of walking into a hotel with it on my back. I like all the ways to carry outside the pack and use them. The only thing that puzzles me about the pack is the big flat stretch pocket - I have not found much use for it. I am nearly 70 years old and think this is the only pack I could carry loaded (often just over 30 pounds) and be able to go anywhere.

Not as good as my decade-old Osprey Talon 22

A little disappointed with this product, maybe because I had high expectations as a owner of the Talon 22 from 10 years back. The Talon 33 feels a lot heavier, and in fact the specs on the product page does not list the correct weight, which is almost 2lbs 3oz. (measured with a hand held luggage scale). The rear mesh pocket is very narrow and it would be harder to stash an outer layer easily there. In fact my 10 year old Talon 22 has a larger outer mesh pocket ! On the plus side, the materials seem to be sturdier, which hopefully will prevent damage in the long run.

Awesome!

I've been using this backpack for 7 years now, although I got a new one (from the life warranty policy!!) 2 years ago. I've taken it on an 8-month trip abroad as my only pack, and have done a month-long hiking trip with it. I also use it almost every day for classes, although it is a bit too big for this. What I love about this pack for backpacking trips is that it forces you to pack light, but you can squeeze sleeping bag, tent, and thermarest in if you really try. Super durable, and the life warranty means you might never have to buy another one.

This pack keeps getting more useful

I bought this for myself Christmas of 2013 intending to get my first sturdy day pack for day hikes and weekend traveling. Since, I've used it for day hikes, 2-4 day backpacking trips, other weekend trips, as a flight carry-on, and (in a pinch) as an academic bag. 5'6" female. I have an older model but I can speak to how it has held up over the years and hopefully the new models are at least as good. Overall feels: I find the bag to be quite comfortable, even when loaded with 20-30lbs of stuff. The water bottle pockets are a little difficult to get to, but I got used to it over time. I also enjoy having the brain, because I can grab a pencil/notebook/wallet/snack out of it pretty easily when I'm on the go without too much fuss. The hip pockets are also always a nice feature - I often get comments from friends about them. Overall functionality: This pack really shines as a day pack. I have never fully filled it during any day trip, so it looks kind of saggy while wearing. The brain/drawstring combo also can be a pain to get into mid-trip, but if you plan where to put snacks/water/rain jacket when you pack the bag it's less of an issue. As a multi-day pack, it can hold the basics - sleeping bag, hammock, tarp, water, first aid, a few layers, and some dense food - but I wouldn't count on bringing a stove. The brain is useful for attaching tarps and sleeping mats externally by just clipping the straps down. As an academic pack this is not so great. It's a pain to get into during classes and it's just not made to hold textbooks and notebooks. As a weekend travel pack, it can hold everything without being too bulky on trains/buses, and it's comfortable to wear even in a crowded urban area. Overall durability: The back has sagged weirdly and is now less comfortable, especially when it isn't holding many items. There are no major rips, buckle breaks, or seam failures though and that says something about the quality.

Nice for rucking!

Santa got me a Talon 33 to use for rucking on the Jersey shore. This is a very flat place, and since Santa lives in Utah and I want to hike with her there, I needed a good pack to use to build up my endurance. They also have lots of sand here, and sandbags make nice rucking weights. I started walking seriously in March of 2020 to keep healthy when Covid struck, and I decided rucking would be the logical net step. The Talon's support frame eliminated issues with properly handling the rucking weight, which this old engineer loves!

Pooling of water

When The pack is not full the top pocket hangs down allowing water to leak through the zip, as the material has good water proofing qualities it does not let the water run out causing pooling. It is aldo not possible to tie the draw string of the main pack tight enough to keep water out in this situation also causing pooling which destroyed an expensive camera

Great Pack for Kilimanjaro!

Looking forward to using pack on Mt Kilimanjaro! This pack is highly rated for the climb and I can see why. Very light, lots of room, and highly adjustable! Talon 33 is a versatile day pack and is also well thought out. Got the water bladder and rain cover too, so all set!

Major flaw in water reservoir compartment design

Overall design is not bad, but this pack seems to be a big downgrade from my 10 year old Talon 22 pack. It's a lot heavier, and the water hydration pouch top part is too narrow. A 3L reservoir that easily fit my Talon22 will not fit this at all.
